What people love about Iceland Tours in August
- 10 Days Complete Iceland Summer | Ring-Road, Snæfellsnes Peninsula & Roundtrip airport transfer (Group Tour)
Best vacation ever! We cannot thank you enough for planning such a spectacular and beautiful tour! I feel like we saw the country from top to bottom and side to side. We saw at all and did it all: climbed glaciers, went into ice caves, whale watching, boat tour among icebergs, fantastic geysers, hikes, lava fields, black sand beaches, lava caves, puffins, seals, horses, sheep crossings, Blue Lagoon, Vox bath, waterfalls, waterfalls, and more waterfalls, canyons and canyons and Lupin flowers. And more!! Our tour guide, John, was absolutely incredible in his knowledge of and enthusiasm for Iceland! We connected with the tour group — “bus family” and we all enjoyed each other’s company! The hotels were all lovely, immaculate, and had excellent hospitality and services. Again, our tour guide made the trip! He thought of everything to make our trip PERFECT!!! It was AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING! Wow! We ? Iceland! When can we go back?!

The tour was spectacular
- 6 Day Around Iceland Summer Minibus Tour
A solid but well-paced tour. Guide/driver Jim was very capable with a very pleasing personality. My only suggestion is that it should start and finish at the airport. Booking accommodation and arranging transport is difficult and expensive for foreigners. We elderly folk had to get ourselves to a bus at 5.30 am to catch a 9.40 flight out.
What our customers ask about Iceland Tours in August 2025
What's the best way to explore Iceland in August?
Self-drive tours and guided group excursions offer excellent ways to see Iceland in August. Small group tours with 8-15 people let you visit the Golden Circle South Coast and Eastfjords with expert local knowledge. Tour companies like Arctic Adventures run well-organized trips that balance key sights with off-the-beaten-path locations. Travelers can choose durations from 3 to 14 days depending on their interests. A recent TourRadar reviewer shared: "The 8-day ring road tour was perfect in August - comfortable weather for exploring and our guide knew all the best spots for photos and timing to avoid crowds."
How crowded are Iceland's main tourist attractions in August?
August brings peak visitor numbers to Iceland's major sites. The Golden Circle attractions see the heaviest foot traffic between 10 AM and 4 PM. Places like the Blue Lagoon often reach capacity especially on weekends. One TourRadar traveler suggests "visiting early morning or evening helps avoid crowds especially at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls." The East Fjords region offers a quieter alternative where Hotel Valaskjalf in Egilsstaðir serves as a good base for exploring less visited landscapes.
What is the weather like in Iceland during August?
August temperatures hover between 10-15°C (50-59°F) with about 16 hours of daylight. The weather tends to be stable making it one of the most reliable months for outdoor activities. Rainfall is moderate particularly around the Golden Circle and South Coast regions. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "We had fantastic weather during our August trip which made hiking at locations like Thingvellir National Park and Skógafoss waterfall really enjoyable."
What are the accommodation options in Iceland during August?
Book accommodations well ahead for August visits. Options range from city-center spots like Hotel Cabin in Reykjavík to regional bases such as Stracta Hotel in Hella for South Coast exploration. Fosshotel properties across Iceland offer reliable comfort and service. According to TourRadar reviews: "The Wilderness Center near Egilsstaðir was a unique highlight offering amazing aurora viewing opportunities even in August."
What are the best natural attractions to visit in Iceland during August?
August's clear conditions showcase Iceland's natural wonders at their best. Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon offers excellent visibility while Reynisfjara's black sand beaches present dramatic coastal scenes. At Diamond Beach ice chunks sparkle against dark sand. A TourRadar traveler notes "Diamond beach was the standout!" Consider staying at Hotel Skaftafell near Vatnajökull National Park to maximize time at these locations.
What special events or festivals happen in Iceland during August?
Cultural celebrations peak in August across Iceland. Reykjavík's Cultural Night (Menningarnótt) fills the capital with music art and food in mid-August. Coastal towns like Dalvík and Húsavík host fish festivals highlighting local maritime culture. A TourRadar traveler noted "experiencing the local festivals while staying at Fosshotel Baron in Reykjavík added an authentic cultural dimension to our August trip." Special glacier lagoon concerts often take place near Jökulsárlón during this month.
