What people love about touring Tibet
- Budget Tibet Overland Tour Fix Departurea masterpiece, where the event was masterplanned by God himself, a perfect canvas prepared by people like Asmitta, then powered by nature!
- Glimpses of Nepal and Tibet Tour 14 DaysMate, me Nepal Tibet Tour was a ripper experience, I tell ya! From havin' a gander at the bloody lively cities of Kathmandu and Lhasa, to layin' eyes on the sheer beauty of the Himalayan mountains and the peace and quiet of the Tibetan plateau, every minute was fair dinkum magical. The tour guides were full of knowledge and always ready to lend a hand, and the places we stayed were comfy as and squeaky clean. I reckon this tour is an absolute corker for anyone keen on fully immersin' themselves in the bloody rich culture and history of Nepal and Tibet. Give it a burl, I reckon!
- 8 Days Lhasa Tour from KathmanduMy husband and I recently completed the Lhasa Tour from Kathmandu, and overall, it was an incredible experience. The tour was well-organized, and everything went smoothly from the moment we were picked up in Kathmandu. The arrangements, including transportation and guides, were top-notch, ensuring we could fully enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and cultural experiences. The accommodations were basic but manageable, which is typical for the region. One thing to note, however, is that restroom facilities along the way were in very poor condition—this is beyond the control of the Peregrine. I highly recommend carrying hand sanitizer and being prepared to use open toilets when necessary. This small inconvenience was easily outweighed by the stunning scenery and unique cultural experiences. Despite these challenges, the tour provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore Lhasa’s spiritual and historical landmarks. The visits to Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple were unforgettable highlights. If you’re prepared for a bit of adventure and some rustic conditions, this tour is an amazing way to experience the heart of Tibet. Highly recommended!

- Our 8-day Tibet adventures from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp work really well for most travelers. Starting at Lhasa's 3,650m gives you time to adjust before heading higher, with great stops at Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier on the way to Shigatse. The longer 15-day western Tibet routes let you explore some fascinating places - there's the old Guge Kingdom ruins and the deep cuts of Sutlej Canyon. Our travelers often mention how much they enjoy discovering the Buddhist caves at Kyhunglung and visiting villages that still practice the ancient Bon faith. Tibet tour companies
Great Tibet Tour and Adventure Himalayan Travels and Treks both get solid feedback from our travelers exploring Tibet and the Himalayas, though they each have their own strengths. At Great Tibet Tour, guides Dajie and Lobsang really shine - our customers consistently mention how well they explain Tibetan Buddhism and local traditions. They take time with questions and make sure everyone's comfortable with the altitude changes and daily schedule.Adventure Himalayan's guides Lakpa and Dambar are known for their excellent English and keeping tours running smoothly. The company does good work organizing complex multi-day treks, but we've had a few travelers mention confusion about visa paperwork. It's worth double-checking all the entry requirements with them early in your planning. We see both companies handle the cultural and physical aspects of Himalayan travel well. Great Tibet Tour might have a slight edge for those focused on Tibetan culture and Buddhist sites, while Adventure Himalayan excels at the trekking logistics, routes and technical aspects of mountain tours. One practical note - altitude adjustment is part of any Himalayan journey, and both companies build in proper acclimatization days. Their guides are experienced at monitoring travelers and adjusting the pace when needed.
Where to start your Tibet trip

You can also begin from Chengdu, Beijing and also Shanghai, though these are less common choices. The prime time to visit is April through October, with May and September offering that perfect mix of pleasant temperatures and clear skies for photos. Tibet itineraries by length
The week-long route from Lhasa to Kathmandu really shows Tibet at its finest. We start at Lhasa's spiritual heart - exploring Jokhang Temple and Potala Palace before heading into more remote areas. You'll cross several high passes over 5000m with clear views reaching to Everest and the Himalayan range. What makes these tours work so well is how they blend cultural experiences and photography moments - you might find yourself watching monk debates at Sera Monastery one day and catching the Everest sunrise the next. Our travelers consistently mention how well our guides handle both the practical side of altitude adjustment and share rich details about each monastery, village and cultural site along the way.
The 10-day journeys add valuable time around Lhasa and venture north to Lake Namtso. There's space to properly explore Potala Palace's thousand rooms and join local pilgrims circling Barkhor Street market without feeling rushed. Our guests particularly enjoy having enough time at Tashilumpo Monastery and Shigatse's local markets. The route to Lake Namtso crosses through nomad grasslands where yaks graze beneath snow peaks, and that first view of turquoise waters against Tibet's clear mountain light tends to leave quite an impression. The longer duration helps with altitude adjustment and lets you experience morning prayers, festival moments and quiet times in monastery courtyards.
Two weeks in Tibet reveals its complete character. Some routes focus on sacred Mount Kailash, timing visits with Saga Dawa when thousands gather to celebrate Buddha's enlightenment. Others combine Tibet's main sites with China's key locations - starting at the Great Wall in Beijing, moving to Xi'an's Terracotta Warriors and working with pandas in Chengdu before crossing to Lhasa. Our travelers often tell us how these longer trips let them experience both the major sites and small details: sharing butter tea with locals, watching paper cutting artists work and finding themselves amid monk debates at Sera Monastery. You'll really grasp Tibet's role in the broader cultural landscape with this extended time.
