Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Nepal to Kerung

Start early with a scenic drive heading to Kerung Border. You'll handle border formalities at Nepalese immigration first, then tackle the uphill drive through Chinese immigration. From there, continue on to Kerung for your first night. The drive involves some elevation gain, so take it easy and stay hydrated as you adjust.

    Landmarks/POIs
    Kerung Border
  2. Day 2

    Kerung to Tingri

Today you're driving uphill to reach the Tibetan plateau, the highest in the world. The landscape shifts to typical Tibetan terrain, and on clear days you'll spot panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges including Mt. Cho Oyu and Mt. Xishapagma. By the time you reach Tingri, you'll have Mt. Everest visible in the distance. It's quite a day of driving with serious elevation changes.

  3. Day 3

    Tingri to Lhatse

After breakfast, you'll continue your scenic drive and cross over Gyatchu La pass, the highest pass on this route to Lhasa. Along the way you'll pass through Lhatse, where a road branches west toward Mt. Kailash. The pass crossing itself takes time, so plan for a long driving day with occasional stops to take in the views.

The highlight here is passing by Yamdrok-Tso Lake with its turquoise waters, plus views of the Brahmaputra River along the way. The scenery changes constantly as you descend toward Lhasa. It's a long drive but visually rewarding, so bring entertainment and snacks.

We had great experiences in the Himalayas with the Nepal Hiking Trek. The company owner, Sudip, was very attentive and friendly and helped us with figuring out the last details in regards to our approximate itinerary as well as handling the applications for all the different required permits and the Tibet visa. They looked after us during the whole trip. I can't begin to say how amazing the views are, and to experience the local culture was amazing, and the food was fab! If this trip is something you're considering, then just go for it!

    Asked on July 14th, 2025

I am looking for 27th September to join your tour as a single traveller. 1. I plan to arrive 21/22. September in Kathmandu. Would this be enough for the Visa? Do I need a Chinese Visa as well or is this Visa enough? 2. are there enough people for the tour at this date? 3. I would like to go back by land. How is the time frame on the end of the tour? On day 7 in the description there are sights in Lhasa, I doubt that it is possible to go back in just one day (day 8). please tell me more about it. 4. unfortunately I will know in 3-4 weeks if I can book this tour. Is this still ok? 5. are there any additional costs but single room (195) and visa fee (125)?
