Well organised by Chris and Rachel, we were fortunate with the weather seeing this wonderful part of the world. Chris was very informative, and looked after us. Good company from my fellow travellers from America, Finland and UK, I was more than happy. This was my second tour with this company, so I knew what to expect. Considering what you could spend on seeing this part of the world, this tour was value for money.

Best places to start your Canadian Rockies tour
Calgary is where most of our Rocky Mountain journeys begin with 48 departures, while Vancouver follows close behind with 37 tours setting off from there. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your dates about 4 months out (128 days to be exact), especially if you're planning a summer trip when the trails are clear and wildlife is most active. Our travelers have found that September hits a sweet spot - you get those lovely autumn colors, great weather and also fewer people on the trails. For the best chances of spotting wildlife, head to places like Banff National Park in the early morning or late afternoon - that's when our guests regularly see grizzlies, mountain goats and also bighorn sheep going about their day.

Best time to visit Canadian Rockies
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter changes the Rockies into something special, with tours that really make the most of the season. Our winter trips pair snowshoeing around Lake Louise with nights at cozy mountain lodges. The guides bring special crampons for walking through Johnston Canyon where frozen waterfalls create incredible ice formations. Our travelers love how active the days are - they go skating on Lake Louise's natural rink or tubing at Lake Louise Ski Resort - before soaking in the warm waters at Banff Hot Springs. Some tours head up to Peace River and Slave Lake for northern lights viewing; people gather around bonfires making s'mores while waiting for the aurora. Many winter tours include stays at the historic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel where you can watch snow falling on the evergreen forests right from your room.

- Spring 2026
Spring tours catch that perfect moment when winter starts letting go of the Rockies. Our travelers get to see ice breaking up on the lakes, spot the first wildflowers and watch wildlife becoming active again. Several tours line up with the reopening of Moraine Lake road in late May or early June. Spring trips mix guided nature walks to find emerging plants, visits to Radium Hot Springs and also exploration through Kootenay National Park where you'll find both glaciers and desert-like areas side by side.

- Summer 2026
Summer opens up so many possibilities in the Rockies, from easy-going sightseeing to real camping adventures. Our most popular summer trips combine hiking through Mt Revelstoke's inland rainforest with paddling canoes on Emerald Lake's clear waters. The camping tours where everyone helps cook and shares stories by the fire get amazing feedback - people make real friends on these trips. Active days might mean rafting the fast-moving Kicking Horse River, then hiking to hidden alpine lakes. For a slower pace, some tours blend wine tasting in Okanagan Valley with drives along the Icefields Parkway and also guided walks out to Spirit Island on Maligne Lake.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall brings rich colors to the Rockies that photographers and nature lovers really appreciate. Our September trips follow similar paths to summer ones but with fewer people on the trails. The weather stays good enough for hiking Johnston Canyon, visiting the Columbia Icefield and also exploring several national parks while the seasons change. Some tours time their visits to see the golden larches around Moraine Lake before access closes in mid-October. Looking at customer feedback patterns, Globus delivers consistently good value with solid accommodations and skilled guides - Brad Noyer gets mentioned quite often for making complex sites make sense while keeping the group engaged and on schedule. If you're drawn to something different, Intrepid runs some unique tours but do check their activity ratings carefully. Some of our travelers noted the listed difficulty levels didn't always match what they experienced on the ground and a few were caught off guard by extra costs for certain activities. For those who love the outdoors, Fresh Adventures runs excellent small-group camping tours. Their guide Alex repeatedly gets praise not just for leading hikes but for somehow creating restaurant-quality meals out in the wilderness with basic camp equipment. When it comes to luxury tours where everything's taken care of, Trafalgar is a reliable choice. Their guide Ben Hutchinson particularly stands out - our travelers often mention how he handles all the logistics seamlessly while making even complex historical sites accessible and interesting. All these companies serve different travel styles but what matters most is matching the operator's approach with what you're looking for. Some want the comfort of Globus or Trafalgar, others prefer Intrepid's local focus and also Fresh Adventures' connection to nature.

When's really the best time to head to the Canadian Rockies?
You can visit the Rockies any time of year and each season brings something special. Summer runs June through September with warm sunny days perfect for seeing those incredible turquoise lakes and hiking trails covered in wildflowers. Winter transforms everything from November to March into this amazing snowy playground where you can ski snowshoe and explore frozen canyons. If you're looking to dodge the crowds spring and fall are actually fantastic with fewer people around and you get to see nature changing its colors. Just keep in mind Moraine Lake is usually only accessible from late May or early June until early October.
How can I explore the Canadian Rockies without breaking the bank?
While the Rockies can get expensive there are smart ways to keep costs down. Camping in the parks is actually really affordable and puts you right in the middle of all that amazing scenery. There's tons of free stuff to do like hiking having picnics by the lakes and driving those scenic routes. Pack your own food to save on restaurant prices and look at staying in places like Canmore or Golden instead of Banff or Lake Louise they're usually cheaper. If you can travel in spring or fall you'll find better deals on accommodation and fewer tourists around.
