Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding
Your adventure kicks off with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where the real trek begins. From there, you'll make a gentle descent through the Dudh Koshi Valley, walking through several small villages surrounded by green landscapes. The trail takes you to Phakding, a quiet riverside village where you'll spend your first night. The day's relatively easy going helps your body adjust to the altitude and gets you oriented to the terrain.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar
This morning, you'll follow the Dudh Koshi River closely, crossing several suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags along the way. After passing through Monjo, you enter Sagarmatha National Park and the landscape shifts noticeably. The trail becomes steeper as it climbs toward Namche Bazaar, the main hub of the Khumbu region. You'll arrive in this bustling trading town by evening, feeling the elevation change pretty clearly.

Today's all about staying in place and letting your body adjust to the altitude. Namche Bazaar itself is worth exploring, with its market, local shops, and energy. If you're feeling good, you can hike up to the Everest View Hotel for clear views of Everest and nearby peaks like Ama Dablam. Alternatively, Khumjung village and the Hillary School sit nearby and make for nice half-day trips. The Sherpa Museum also offers insight into local culture and mountaineering history.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
The trail climbs through forests and past religious chortens, with views opening up as you gain elevation. You'll cross the Dudh Koshi and then make a steep push upward to Tengboche, home to the famous monastery that sits on a ridge. The views from here looking back at Everest, Nuptse, and surrounding peaks are really something. The monastery itself is worth a visit if you're interested in local spiritual traditions.

Tengboche to Dingboche
After leaving Tengboche, the trek continues through forested sections before you cross the Imja Khola. You'll see cultivated fields of barley and potatoes around this village, showing how people farm at this altitude.

Dingboche to Lobuche
You'll ascend through the valley and move onto the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, a different terrain than what you've experienced so far. The Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche is a good checkpoint, and then the trail climbs to Thukla Pass, which has memorials for climbers who've died on Everest and other peaks. The path continues to Lobuche, where dramatic peaks tower around you and the altitude starts feeling more serious.

Lobuche to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep
Today brings you to the famous Everest Base Camp. You'll trek along the Khumbu Glacier toward Gorak Shep first, then push on to the base camp itself where you see the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding high peaks close up. It's crowded and rocky, but the experience of being there is significant. After spending time at base camp, you'll head back to Gorak Shep for the night since base camp isn't set up for sleeping.

- Day 8
Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar to Pheriche
You'll wake very early and hike to Kala Patthar in darkness to catch the sunrise over Everest and the surrounding peaks. The colors shifting across the mountain faces are the highlight of many people's entire trek. After taking in the views, you begin the steep descent down to Pheriche. The downhill is harder on the knees and ankles than climbing, so take your time with the footing.

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

The vegetation gets greener as you drop in elevation, and wildlife sightings become more common.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla
This final trekking day takes you back to Lukla on the same route you came in. The trail descends steeply in places, so watch your footing carefully. The views of the valleys and distant peaks provide a fitting backdrop as you finish the trek and head into town.

Lukla to Kathmandu
After eating breakfast in Lukla, you'll catch an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. The flight itself offers one last look at the Himalayan range from the air. Once you're back in Kathmandu, you can finally relax properly, rest your feet, and spend time processing everything you've experienced over the past week or so. Many people grab a good meal and just rest after a trek like this.
