Your adventure kicks off with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where the real trek begins. From there, you'll make a gentle descent through the Dudh Koshi Valley, walking through several small villages surrounded by green landscapes. The trail takes you to Phakding, a quiet riverside village where you'll spend your first night. The day's relatively easy going helps your body adjust to the altitude and gets you oriented to the terrain.

If you're feeling good, you can hike up to the Everest View Hotel for clear views of Everest and nearby peaks like Ama Dablam. Alternatively, Khumjung village and the Hillary School sit nearby and make for nice half-day trips. The Sherpa Museum also offers insight into local culture and mountaineering history.

You'll cross the Dudh Koshi and then make a steep push upward to Tengboche, home to the famous monastery that sits on a ridge. The views from here looking back at Everest, Nuptse, and surrounding peaks are really something. The monastery itself is worth a visit if you're interested in local spiritual traditions.

From there, you reach Pangboche, a quieter village that feels less trafficked than earlier stops. As the day goes on, the landscape shifts noticeably drier and more open as you climb toward Dingboche. You'll see cultivated fields of barley and potatoes around this village, showing how people farm at this altitude.

The Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche is a good checkpoint, and then the trail climbs to Thukla Pass, which has memorials for climbers who've died on Everest and other peaks. The path continues to Lobuche, where dramatic peaks tower around you and the altitude starts feeling more serious.

You'll trek along the Khumbu Glacier toward Gorak Shep first, then push on to the base camp itself where you see the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding high peaks close up. It's crowded and rocky, but the experience of being there is significant. After spending time at base camp, you'll head back to Gorak Shep for the night since base camp isn't set up for sleeping.

  8. Day 8

Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar to Pheriche

You'll wake very early and hike to Kala Patthar in darkness to catch the sunrise over Everest and the surrounding peaks. The colors shifting across the mountain faces are the highlight of many people's entire trek. After taking in the views, you begin the steep descent down to Pheriche. The downhill is harder on the knees and ankles than climbing, so take your time with the footing.

At this point in the trek, your legs know the terrain, and you'll notice details you might have missed on the way up. The vegetation gets greener as you drop in elevation, and wildlife sightings become more common.

  10. Day 10

    Namche Bazaar to Lukla

This final trekking day takes you back to Lukla on the same route you came in. The trail descends steeply in places, so watch your footing carefully. Between the physical exertion, you'll have moments to reflect on what you've accomplished over the past week or so. The views of the valleys and distant peaks provide a fitting backdrop as you finish the trek and head into town.

    Lukla to Kathmandu

After eating breakfast in Lukla, you'll catch an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. The flight itself offers one last look at the Himalayan range from the air. Once you're back in Kathmandu, you can finally relax properly, rest your feet, and spend time processing everything you've experienced over the past week or so. Many people grab a good meal and just rest after a trek like this.

Friendly staff and guides. We had different guides for each portion of the safari. It lacked a personal touch in that we didn't get to know any one guide at all. All were very competent though; I have no complaints about their quality. A nice variety of options for the safari though, even though we did not see much wildlife.

It was a very good trip and full of new experiences. Everything worked out wonderfully with the organizer and they took care of taken care of everything. I am especially satisfied with my guide Rodna, who was always helpful, courteous and always had an eye on my health. Not entirely unimportant on this type of trip. He also often showed me things besides the standard routes, which made the trip something very special,
