- Joachim· November 21st, 2019Summary: Office, guide and porter did well for a safe and smooth trip. Big thank you for these efforts. But it was a not the fun relaxed atmosphere I was expecting, rather professional cold and high consumption pressure. Since I travelled a long way to Nepal, spent my precious vacation time and lots of money for that trip, I feel responsible also towards other trekkers to write an honest, critical review. Especially since most other reviews here probably are manipulated, see below. Good: - Itinerary and Organisation was good. Safety was given all the time, the guide took care for my well-being by asking, observing and walking slowly - Transport Lukla - Katmandu was excellent; we had a direct transportation, whereas other companies start from a different airport which requires a 4h Jeep ride additionally. Bad: - Walk alone: My main motivation to book with N.E.A was that they told me we would be a group of 4 members for Gokyo lake - I had approached several other trekking companies. But that was wrong: 2 people cancelled in the last second, and the other member took the different route to Everest, so that I was alone most days. Ironically, just 1 day after me, NEA launched another Gokyo group! We could easily have been merged, since I had explicitly and written stated my flexibility and desire to trek in a group. That wish was not considered. - Cold atmosphere: The guide continued to call me “Sir” which in English sounds distanciated and professional, but my explanations didn’t help. In the restaurants he used to chose the table most far away from other people, even to people I already was talking to, so that we sat alone! When I was eating, my guide just sat beside me and watching instead of joining in - he would always eat separately with his Sherpa friends. - Economical interests: in my impression, most Restaurants and Lodges were chosen based on the guides friends and acquaintances. That became obvious sometimes. Normally no problem - But some places were not really dark, shabby, bad view etc, and when I suggested a different place with beautiful view terrace, we couldn’t go there. Especially the lodge for the last night (Everest plaza) is shabby and leaves a bad memory - Pressure for consumption: As soon as we arrived in a restaurant, while I was still recovering from the trek, I was pushed a menu in my hands and asked “what do you want to drink”? It created a weird setting, my guide always ordered, served the drinks and also managed the payments. I usually never talked directly to any restaurant owner, although they sometimes were really friendly and made good food! - Manipulation of review: The guide pushed hard that we write the review together on the last evening, and he even wanted to explain me what to write. So I assume many of the reviews here were written in this setting, not neutral. Of course I did not accept that method and wrote this very honest review quite some days later. Of course I tried to improve these issues during the trek, but after all it were too many points, and I didn’t want to spent my trekking time with discussions. I saw quite some groups with similar settings as above - but these were groups, so the cold economical motivated atmosphere doesn’t show so strongly. Next time I will walk with my friends or alone without guide - but still I am thankful for the good experience and the safe hike.Show moreNepal Eco Adventure Pvt.Ltd commented on this reviewDear Joachim, First of all we Nepal Eco Adventure would like to thank you for taking your time to review on this platform as it helps us to improve the services to our clients. Asked on June 14th, 2019Are visa required?
- Nepal Eco Adventure Pvt.LtdOperator•Written June 2019
Regarding Visa advice, we recommend contacting your local embassies for the most up to date information about Visas required in these countries. As a tour booking website, TourRadar cannot be an effective and accurate visa authority as this information is regularly being updated and varies for the nationality of one traveller to the next.
It is for this reason that we recommend checking your local embassy or consulate’s website for the latest up to date information. We’ll happily provide you with the trip notes for this tour which may contain some guidance regarding Visa requirements for some nationalities, but in most cases, Visas will remain the responsibility of the individual traveller.

Asked on June 14th, 2019What types of food will be served during the treks?
- Nepal Eco Adventure Pvt.LtdOperator•Written June 2019
While trekking in Nepal, meals are prepared in tea houses with a good standard of hygiene, including fruit and vegetables which are soaked in iodine water before being cooked. The food along the trail will be simple and a mix of local and international cuisine. If the trekking is camping trekking, then you will mainly be served the local foods of Nepal as well as continental and western foods. Due to the lack of electricity and refrigerators along the trekking routes, you will eat a largely vegetarian diet.
