- Zoe· November 6th, 2013This was a brilliant trip, the scenery was beautiful, the group leader was full of good stories, the accommodation was gorgeous, the food was delicious and the hosts were extremely welcoming. What was the most inspirational moment of your trip? Having arrived in the dark, waking up on the first morning and stepping out on to our lovely balcony to admire the sun rising over the stunning mountains covered in a thick layer of fresh snow! Breathtaking!Also seeing bears in the wild - it was amazing to be that close to them - although slightly un-nerving too! What did you think of your group leader? Udo our group leader was great fun.  Full of stories and information of the history, flora, fauna, the people and the place. Do you have any advice for potential travellers? Don't go expecting to see wildlife, accept that wildlife is elusive and that any sightings are a bonus.  The trip notes do give the impression that seeing wolves and beavers is possibly more likely than it is.  We were lucky seeing 5 bears at the hide and the splash of a beaver going into the water, but I think expectations were raised a little high.  The scenery, people and more easily spotted flora and fauna made this trip excellent. Is there anything else you would like to add? This is a great trip and I would really recommend it.  An excellent mix of walking in stunning scenery, fantastic culture, fabulous people and amazing wildlife.Show more

Knowlegable fun charactor. Do you have any advice for potential travellers? Don't worry about what Money to take as Katherina (hostess at house) will take Euros, Pounds or Lei at the house to pay for optional activities ( and drinks, more economical to buy a wine by the bottle than by the glass!) and you don't need any Lei until you get to Bran and then can get some from a cash machine. Is there anything else you would like to add? Walking stick / pole very useful, in my case it was a must.  Also lunch box is essential.Show more

Just keep in mind that our base for the week, Villa Hermani in the remote village of Magura, is about 3+ hours from Bucharest Airport. You're welcome to make your own way there, or we can arrange a private transfer from Bucharest Airport to Magura for USD $350.

As this trip is suitable for up to 99 years old (!!) compared with other tours you offer which are only suitable for up to 59 years old, I am checking my fitness levels for this trip.

In terms of difficulty, walking times will vary from half to full days. There are numerous uphill sections on paths and tracks with walking distances up to 12mi (20km). Optional longer walks are sometimes available. The trip goes up to altitudes of almost 6,560ft (2,000m), so reasonable fitness levels are required. The exact trails, lengths and difficulties may be adapted according to the weather, trail conditions and group fitness.

Currently, there are no COVID-19 restrictions in Romania and you can travel in there regardless of your vaccination status. For the 10th of September departure we have six solo travellers and two couples with ages between 37 and 74. For the 1st of October departure we currently have 3 people booked on with ages between 59 and 70. Exodus welcomes solo travellers on all our adult holidays; in fact, approximately 50% of our travellers go it alone.

On the last day of the trip the transfer would only bring you back to the airport (we wouldn't drop you in the city) so you would need to make your own way to the airport to meet the group when they arrive at 20:05.
