What people love about touring Egypt solo
- Egypt Treasures (Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, Felucca sailing ,black &white desert safari) with Domestic flight
Totally amazing. Well organised and perfect itinerary, friendly guides, small groups of similar ages, varied activities, Saw almost all of Egypt highlights, lovely hotels even though it was the budget tour, no problems of any sort. Definitely would recommend them.
- Essential Egypt (21 destinations)
Tour and itinerary were excellent The feluca trip could have been reduced to just an afternoon or overnight activity instead of planning for an entire day aboard. We got stuck in a sandstorm which really didn't help! More time should have been allotted for Luxor and the surrounding tombs. We only had time for karnak, valley of the kings, and Luxor temple. Would like to have been able to go to valley of the queens and hapsetsut's mortuary. Biggest complaint was on the free day in Cairo (second to last day of trip). We had scheduled a day trip to Alexandria and planned to meet our guide at the train station when we arrived in Cairo from Luxor. Our train was delayed by several hours and put us in Cairo 2 hours later than anticipated. Myself and several others questioned our guide if this would still allow for enough time to properly complete our itinerary in Alexandria. I said on multiple occasions that I was ok with canceling the trip if necessary. We arrived late in Cairo and still went to Alexandria, resulting in a rushed trip with little time to spend at 2 sites and completely missing the last one. We were not refunded for the site we did not see. We all were extremely disappointed in our trip to Alexandria and how rushed it ended up being. Should a similar situation arise, it would be better if the trip leader was honest about how little time we would have and be more open to the idea of canceling if a late start is likely.
- Nile Adventure - Felucca cruise
Overall the experience was an amazing one. SemSem is undoubtedly the best tour guide in the world and was the highlight of the trip, he had a lot of knowledge which he shared freely, he was friendly and helpful at every level. The accommodations were all good, the only issue was the Oasis hotel is so isolated, no shops nearby to get essentials, all my rooms were very good and comfortable. The personal and local touches that were added like the Nubian village visit and the Felucca experiences were a wonderful experience, so were the intimate visits to the Alabaster shop, perfumery shop and the papyrus shop. I was a bit sceptical but this tour surpassed all my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was somewhat a dissapointment but it's not a reflection of expat explore rather an Egyptian issue. Paying for the toilets everywhere we went was annoying and also not being given change if you don't give the exact amount. I will definitely use Expat Explore and I will definitely recommend it to all and sundry. Thank you to the whole team, the drivers of our coach, Mina and everyone else who worked hard to ensure this trip was a success
What our customers ask about Egypt Tours for Solo Travelers
Which areas of Egypt are most solo traveler-friendly on guided tours?
Luxor Aswan and the Nile cruise route connecting them stand out as the most welcoming areas for solo travelers. These destinations blend structured guided activities with natural opportunities to meet others. The Steigenberger and Movenpick hotels in these areas are particularly well-suited for those traveling alone with welcoming common areas and group-friendly facilities. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "The Nile cruise was particularly enjoyable - our Nile cruise guide Saladino made everyone feel included and the evening activities brought the whole group together."
How social is the experience for solo travelers on guided Egypt tours?
Group tours in Egypt create natural environments for meeting fellow travelers especially during Nile cruise portions. Groups typically include 8-15 people which creates easy opportunities for meaningful connections. The Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel in Cairo provides shared spaces where travelers often gather and socialize. As reported by a TourRadar traveler: "Our group felt like family by the end of the cruise dining together and sharing amazing experiences at temples and historical sites."
What is the typical single supplement cost for Egypt guided tours?
Single room supplements range from USD 250-400 based on accommodation quality. The TOLIP Golden Plaza Hotel in Cairo and 5-star Nile cruises typically charge around USD 350 for private rooms. Tour companies like Intrepid Travel offer room-sharing options for travelers looking to avoid the extra cost while still ensuring comfortable accommodations.
What kind of social activities are included for solo travelers on Egypt tours?
Tours feature group dinners with local families in Aswan and Luxor cooking classes aboard cruise ships and evening entertainment including traditional belly dancing. The Egyptian Night Party lets travelers wear traditional galabeyas and join in local customs. Felucca sailboat rides and visits to Nubian villages naturally bring groups together through shared experiences.
What's the best time for solo travelers to visit Egypt?
The period from October through April brings mild temperatures ideal for exploring Egypt's outdoor sites. Booking data shows November and March attract the highest numbers of solo travelers. These months offer comfortable conditions for seeing the Valley of the Kings and taking Nile cruises with temperatures that make outdoor exploration pleasant.
How do meal arrangements work for solo travelers on Egypt guided tours?
Group meals form a central part of the experience particularly on Nile cruises where three daily meals are shared with fellow travelers. The MS Sonesta Moon cruise ship serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner creating natural social settings. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The group meals were fantastic for getting to know everyone and our guide always ensured solo travelers were included in dinner plans during free evenings."
