- Grand Egyptian GEMs: Hidden Pyramids and the Nile - Return Flight Included - 9 Days
Overall Experience Excellent: BUT include NMEC in Itinerary. If you want to see the history of ancient Egypt and enjoy the Nile this is an excellent tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and having someone on hand to organise logistics daily invaluable. We enjoyed the boat experience and fantastic way to see the river and its importance to Egypt. The boats were a bit tired but rooms very comfortable, food was all buffet but absolutely fine and the top deck was a lovely place to relax in between trips. As can be expected there are things that could be improved , certain tour facts not explained beforehand and some tips on Egypt: - the boats on the Nile all seem to go in convoy, this means they arrive at the same time, dock next to each other and all tourists end up at the same place at the same time! I could not get an explanation for this fact. -the tipping process is misleading and can be intrusive. Our tour guide on arrival in our Cairo hotel asked us for $55 per person towards tips for staff on our tour excluding our main guide we would pick up in Luxor. During the nine days many people asked for tips supposedly covered by our initial payment and during the tour you visit many ‘recommended’ tourist shops( alibaster, perfume, artefacts, papyrus etc) where it’s clear the guide benefits financially. The guide at Cairo airport from Beyond the Nile was late and rude and was not representative of other staff. -there are many side tours/trips you can also elect to take. We enjoyed ours( horse and carriage around Luxor at night, visit Nubian village) but I thought they were expensive given the costs of things on the ground when you are there. -we were a group of fourteen when the maximum size was supposed to be ten people. It didn’t make any difference and we thoroughly enjoyed our other travelling companions but it was misleading by the tour company. -if you are expecting seem less communication with the outside world plan ahead. The Wi-Fi just does not work, in hotels, on the boat and anywhere else. Most of our group ended up buying a Egyptian SIM card. Money changers are few and far between and ATM’s friendly to foreign cards also. You should do SIM and cash/ATM at the airport on arrival. - lastly, but most IMPORTANT. On day one you visit the Egyptian Museum which is a bit long, very hot and most interesting part saved for the last ten minutes (Tutankhamen treasures). There is another museum in Cairo called the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation(NMEC) which was built in 2017 and is amazing. They have two floors; the lower one dedicated to the Mummies of the ancient Kings & Queen which is amazing and the ground floor covers all Egyptian History periods: Old,Middle, New Kingdoms, Ptolematic and Roman eras and the Muslim Caliphate changes. We saw this on our last day ONLY because we asked to see it. We SHOULD have seen this on day ONE as it would have given us a fantastic foundation of knowledge for what we would be seeing over the next eight days. The Tour company couldn’t explain why it was not on the itinerary but make sure you see beforehand.
What our customers ask about Romantic Egypt Trips & Honeymoon Packages
What's the best time to visit Egypt for couples?
Plan your trip between October and April when the weather is most pleasant. In Cairo, temperatures range from 68-82°F (20-28°C), while Luxor and Aswan see temperatures from 75-90°F (24-32°C). October and November are especially nice months for exploring together. I'd avoid summer (June-August) when temperatures in Upper Egypt can hit 104°F (40°C) - that's too hot for comfortable sightseeing. One of our travelers shared: "The weather was much nicer in late October with the hottest day being in the Valley of the Kings in the low 90s."
What romantic experiences can couples enjoy on Egypt tours?
You can share some really special moments together in Egypt. Take a sunset sail on a felucca boat in Aswan, watch the sunrise from a hot air balloon over Luxor, or enjoy dinner under the stars during a Nile cruise. One traveler told us: "The felucca ride was amazing and dinner was good." For a luxurious stay, book a room with Nile views on the MS Royal Lotus cruise ship, or choose the Oasis Hotel in Cairo where you can dine by the pool with the pyramids as your backdrop.
Where can couples find romantic dining in Egypt?
You'll find plenty of atmospheric places to share a meal together. Try the rooftop restaurants at the Mena House Hotel with pyramid views, or explore the restaurants tucked away in Khan el-Khalili bazaar for traditional Egyptian food. If you're on a Nile cruise, you can have dinner on deck under the stars. In Hurghada, pick a beachfront spot for fresh seafood with Red Sea views. As one of our travelers mentioned: "The dinner cruise along the Nile with traditional music and belly dancing was a highlight of our romantic evening experiences."
Which parts of Egypt are best for couples wanting to relax?
Head to Hurghada on the Red Sea coast where you can unwind at places like the Pharaoh Azur resort with its beautiful beaches. Aswan is another good choice - it's much calmer than Cairo and has beautiful Nile views, especially from the historic Old Cataract hotel. Alexandria's gardens are perfect for peaceful walks together. One traveler shared: "The three days in Hurghada were perfect for unwinding together after the busy sightseeing schedule, with beautiful beaches and spectacular sunsets."
What extra romantic activities can couples add to their Egypt trip?
You can make your trip extra special with add-ons like a private sunset camel ride by the pyramids, a candlelit dinner cruise on the Nile in Cairo (about $65 per couple), or watching the sunrise from a hot air balloon over Luxor's temples ($150 per person). In Hurghada, book a private snorkeling trip to quiet coral reefs or get a couples massage. As one traveler noted: "The optional evening sound and light show at the temples was magical and incredibly romantic when experienced together."
Which hotels work best for couples in Egypt?
You'll find great romantic hotels throughout Egypt. In Cairo, stay at the Mena House Hotel for rooms with pyramid views. If you're cruising the Nile, the M/S Nile Premium has private balconies perfect for sunset watching. The Pharaoh Azur Resort in Hurghada offers a private beach and spa treatments. For something really special, try the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract in Aswan - it's where Agatha Christie wrote "Death on the Nile." One traveler told us: "The 5-star hotels and Nile cruiser accommodations were excellent, providing the perfect romantic setting."
What's the best way for couples to experience the Nile?
You can either take a traditional felucca boat and sleep under the stars, or choose a luxury cruise ship like the Steigenberger Legacy with its private balconies. One traveler said: "The Nile cruise was such an amazing experience, especially watching sunsets from the top deck with your loved one." Most boats travel between Luxor and Aswan, stopping at temples like Kom Ombo and Edfu along the way.
