What people love about Peru Tours in July
- Machu Picchu Adventure
I recently returned from the 8 day "Machu Picchu Adventure" small group tour and I was pleasantly surprised with most of the trip. The tour guides we had were excellent, there was a good mix of planned activities and free time, the group we had was a great mix of young people along with older people, singles, couples, etc. and overall it has been one of the best trips I have had. Below I go into more depth about the pros/cons Cons -Accomodations were very basic and varied widely room to room and across the trip. I honestly expected slightly nicer accomodations, but considering the 8 day trip was only $1499 USDI guess thats what you get. In Lima we stayed at Casa Bonita which was honestly the worst experience. The rooms were dirty (there were stains on the comforters and pillow cases) and the AC in most of the rooms didn't work, but the worst part about it was that most of the staff was not helpful or friendly. The other hotels were all slightly better as the staff at those were friendlier and the rooms were slightly better, but again just below what my expectations were. -We never got a detailed itinerary prior to the trip. The only thing we received was what is visible online. -We didn't have a lot of time to adjust to the altitude in Cusco -Some of the restaurants our tour guides suggested were too touristy Pros -The guides were incredible. They were all knowledgeable about the history and were friendly and welcoming. One of my friends left her phone on a tuk-tuk and our guide was able to call and get in touch with the driver who immediately brought the phone back to us before we got on the train to Machu Picchu. She didn't have any coins or small bills on her to tip the tuk-tuk driver (As suggested by the guide would be nice) so he paid for her instead with no expectation that she should pay him back. -the itinerary was a nice mix of structured activity and free time. We did A LOT in a short amount of time, but it was very rare that I felt outright exhausted by our schedule. When that moment came I had plenty of free time to sleep and recharge -the people we traveled with were awesome. It was mostly young travelers (22-30), but there were some older people in our group as well that fit in great -the transportation was better than expected - our buses, trains, and planes were all clean, on time, and spacious. -even though the hotels left a lot to be desired they were all in very good locations - safe and close to the city centers so that most everything we wanted to do was walkable. If you are looking for a reasonably priced adventure with some great people and can't take a lot of time off of work then this 8 day trip is for you just make sure you set your expectations for the hotels low. If you are extending on either side in Lima I'd highly suggest not booking at Casa Bonita if that is where you stay as well.
- Southern Treasures - 8 Days
The tour was great! My guide Nikko was excellent! He was punctual, considerate and very friendly. He was knowledgeable about the history of the place and he explained things well. The places we went to were great in my opinion. The only recommendation I have is to have an extra two days in Cusco instead of the day we stayed in Machu Picchu. Again thank you Nilo
- The Inca Journey
Experience of a Life Time! Peru is absolutely amazing and I have nothing bad to say about this tour. The tour guides were excellent and I would do it all over again.
What our customers ask about Peru Tours in July 2025
What are the main festivals and cultural events in Peru during July?
July marks Peru's most vibrant festival season with Independence Day celebrations (Fiestas Patrias) on July 28-29 taking center stage. The streets of Cusco come alive during the Virgen del Carmen festival in mid-July where local dancers and musicians fill the streets. Recent visitors report the most authentic experiences come from smaller town celebrations outside major tourist areas. Local guides often arrange viewing spots for traditional dance performances and many hotels like the Tierra Viva in Cusco organize special cultural programs during this time.
How crowded are major attractions like Machu Picchu in July?
July brings peak visitor numbers to Peru's major sites especially Machu Picchu. The first morning buses to the site often fill by 5:00 AM and entrance tickets frequently sell out weeks in advance. Tour operators recommend visiting during early morning or late afternoon hours. Recent visitors who took the 5:30 AM bus report having up to two hours of relatively quiet exploration time before larger groups arrive. Working with authorized tour companies remains the most reliable way to secure specific entrance times.
How far in advance should I book a Peru trip for July?
For July visits booking 3-6 months ahead is essential particularly for sought-after accommodations and activities. The classic Inca Trail permits often sell out 6 months in advance. Popular hotels including the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba in Sacred Valley and Casa Andina Premium in Cusco typically reach capacity by early spring. Recent travelers report even basic accommodations in Cusco and Aguas Calientes fill up quickly during this peak season.
What type of tours are available in Peru during July?
July's clear weather allows for diverse touring options across Peru. Current offerings range from the challenging 5-day Lares Trek (USD 881) to comprehensive 10-day cultural journeys (USD 2799). Many visitors opt for week-long Cusco-based packages (USD 669) that include Sacred Valley explorations. Tour accommodations vary from basic guesthouses to luxury lodges with most mid-range options like the Golden Sunrise Hotel in Aguas Calientes providing comfortable bases for daily excursions.
What are the most popular activities to do in Peru during July?
The dry season makes July ideal for outdoor activities across Peru. The Inca Trail Salkantay Trek and Rainbow Mountain trails see their highest visitor numbers. Beyond trekking visitors find clear views at Machu Picchu archaeological explorations in the Sacred Valley and cultural experiences like weaving demonstrations at the Ccaccaccollo Community. The Humantay Lake trek has become increasingly popular with visitors praising the exceptional visibility of surrounding peaks during this time.
What is the weather like in Peru during July?
July brings Peru's most stable weather patterns with dry sunny days and cold nights. Cusco sees average daytime temperatures of 20°C (68°F) dropping near freezing after dark. The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu maintain similar daytime temperatures but experience milder nights rarely falling below 0°C (32°F). The clear skies and minimal rainfall create optimal conditions for photography and outdoor activities though the temperature swings require careful packing.
