This tour far exceeded my expectations. Messages before we met up were clear and informative and any questions were replied to promptly. Alex was an excellent guide, very knowledgable and super helpful and friendly. He showed us all the sights and gave lots of information and knew all the short cuts and best places to go. Machu Picchu was awesome and getting off the train was chaotic, exciting and wonderful! This tour is full on but I would recommend it!

This was a stress free tour. All guides were amazing and every single day of the tour was awesome. Good communication, good interaction... A bit tough at times (waking up at 3/4am and getting to the hotel at 9/10pm) but worth it. The landscape, the people, the experience was something unbelievable and I would say for the price this was a great QUALITY/PRICE ratio. Starting in Lima, both Saul and Maria were lovely guides. Our trip to Paracas/Huacachina was an absolute blast and Jonathan a perfect guide all the time. In Cusco/Moray/Salineras de Maras/Machu Picchu, Julio Cesar our guide was a big source of knowledge and really helpful all the time. For lake Humantay, our guide Ernesto gave us all the necessary attention for the hike and explained really well all we needed to know. Rainbow mountain was another amazing experience and Anderson was an awesome guide. The all day bus tour from Cusco to Puno was probably the weakest day of all but at the same time the more relaxed as well. still visited few amazing places and got to know few archaeological places that were amazing. To end up this absolutely amazing experience, Lake Titicaca tour was such a different experience by sharing the day with the locals leaving in the floating island and visiting the main Island of Taquile, where all the men do knitting and again our guide Alex was a really nice source of information. Most of our travelers start their trip from Lima - about 40% choose this route, while a good third fly straight to Cusco to get used to the altitude before hitting the trails. Some interesting alternatives include Puerto Natales, Quito and also La Paz, each with their own special route to the mountains. Getting the timing right is pretty straightforward - book around 120 days ahead and you'll have no trouble getting permits for popular trails like the Inca Trail, plus you'll get the dates you want, especially if you're thinking about the busy months of June through August. The weather's most reliable from May to October, though quite a few of our experienced hikers prefer April-May or September-October when there are fewer people on the trails and the mountain flowers are in full bloom. When's Best to Visit the Andes?
The Andes run through so many different climate zones that perfect timing really depends on where you're headed. Most travelers find May through October ideal with those clear mountain skies and comfortable temperatures that make hiking just amazing. If you're thinking about Patagonia though you'll want to aim for their summer - that's December to February when the weather's more forgiving for trekking.
How Do You Deal with Altitude Sickness?
Look altitude sickness can hit pretty hard up there but there's ways to handle it. The key is taking it slow - spend a few days letting your body adjust at lower elevations before heading up higher. Stay hydrated skip the alcohol and try some coca tea it's what locals have used forever. Take Cusco for example start there at about 11,152 feet for a few days before tackling the Inca Trail which gets up to nearly 14,000 feet.
What Kind of Local Cultural Experiences Can You Join?
The Andean culture is incredibly rich and there's some really special experiences you can be part of. Head to the Sacred Valley and you can learn traditional weaving from the amazing women at the Ccaccaccollo Community project it's supported by G Adventures and really authentic. In Cusco you've got to try a Pachamanca feast - they cook everything underground with hot stones it's this incredible ancient tradition with potatoes meats and local vegetables all cooked together.
Where Are the Best Natural Areas and How Do You Get There?
You've got some absolutely stunning parks out there. Torres del Paine in Chile and Los Glaciares in Argentina are just incredible with their massive glaciers and world-class hiking trails - you'll want a guide for these. Over in Ecuador Cotopaxi National Park gives you these amazing volcano views and you can explore by hiking or even horseback riding which is pretty special.
What's the Best Way to Get Around?
Getting around the Andes really depends on what you're after. Local buses connect all the major spots they're budget-friendly and pretty reliable like the route from El Calafate to Puerto Natales between Argentina and Chile. If you want more comfort private transfers work great for specific destinations. For the real mountain experience though nothing beats trekking with local guides especially on famous routes like the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
