Itinerary
- Day 1
Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Leave Kigali at 8am after a brief welcome meeting at your hotel. The drive takes you through rural countryside toward the Uganda border, with the landscape gradually becoming more forested as you head deeper into the region. Once you cross into Uganda, you'll continue on to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The park sits at high elevation surrounded by dense rainforest, so you'll notice the air getting cooler and damper. Settle into your accommodation this afternoon and use the evening to rest and prepare mentally for tomorrow's gorilla trek. The guides typically review trekking guidelines and fitness expectations during dinner, so pay attention to those details.

- Day 2
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Start early with a drive to park headquarters where your local guides meet the group and explain gorilla trekking rules, including distance requirements and photography guidelines. From there, you'll head into the rainforest to begin tracking a mountain gorilla family. The trek itself varies in length and difficulty depending on where the gorillas are that day, ranging from a couple hours to half a day of hiking through steep, wet forest terrain. Porters are available for hire if you want help carrying water or personal items during the walk. When you locate the family, you'll spend about an hour observing them in their natural habitat. It's physically demanding but most people find it worth the effort.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Kigali
Cross back into Rwanda this morning and drive toward Kigali, heading back toward the capital city. Along the way or upon arrival, you'll visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which documents Rwanda's 1994 genocide through exhibits, photographs, and personal accounts. It's a sobering but important part of understanding the country's recent history and recovery. The memorial typically takes two to three hours to walk through properly. Your tour concludes when you arrive at your hotel in Kigali, giving you time to decompress after the intensity of the past few days.
