  1. Day 1

    Kigali to Bwindi National Park

Your representative picks you up in Kigali between 7:00 am and 11:00 am for the drive to Bwindi National Park. The route takes about 5 hours and heads north through Ruhengeri (Musanze), then crosses into Uganda at either the Cyanika or Katuna border post before continuing through Kisoro or Kabale. You'll reach the park in the early afternoon, which gives you time to settle in at your lodge or try optional activities if you're up for it.

    • Transport from Kigali to Bwindi National Park in 4x4 vehicle

    Optional Activities

    • Canoeing at Lake Mutanda
    • Visiting the Batwa community
    • Organic coffee-making experience
    Landmarks/POIs

  2. Day 2

    Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, you'll head to the Bwindi National Park gate for your pre-trekking briefing with a national park guide. They'll go over what you need to know about the gorilla trek and let you know which group you're joining. The actual trek itself can take several hours depending on where the gorillas are in the forest that day. Once you're back at the lodge for some rest, there's an option to do a Batwa Cultural Tour if you have the energy and interest.

If you want and there's time available, you can stop at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for golden monkey trekking or explore optional activities like canoeing at Lake Mutanda or trying a coffee-making experience. Your arrival in Kigali won't be before 11:00 am Rwanda time.

This was a trip of a lifetime! From being picked up by my driver, and now new friend, Fred, to the beautiful Heaven Boutique in Rwanda, to the comfy facilities at Karungi Camp in Uganda (not to mention the friendly staff and delicious food), and last but not least, to the AMAZING Gorilla Trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ?. Words cannot express my gratitude. Thank you, Fred, for your amazing customer service. You made me feel safe throughout the trip and shared with me the beautiful culture of Rwanda and Uganda. I wish you and Bamboo Tours all the best

Our 3 day Gorilla trek from Kigali was fabulous. Communication with the company was very good.... the whole tour ran very smoothly. We were the only 2 on our tour so received individualised attention from our driver Amanya. He really took care of us and we learnt a lot from him. He was very personable and easy going It was a pleasure to spend the 3 days with him. Our gorilla experience was magical... it was a privilege to be in the presence of these animals. Our accommodation at Kuranji lodge was basic but comfortable with good food and friendly, accommodating staff. Thank you for a great experience.

Just wow! Pick up in Kigali with a 5 hour drive across border into Uganda. Border crossing took about 30 minutes of this due to x ray of bags and walking across border. Accommodations at the lodge were basic, but it was a community sponsored lodge, so we felt like we were helping the locals. Basic room with a bed, a bathroom, and a front porch. One outlet, one light in the bedroom, one in the bathroom and one on the from porch. WIFI available at the restaurant and reception, although we could get it in our room. The food was great at the restaurant. People very friendly and helpful. The gorilla trek was fantastic! Family of 13 gorillas appeared in front of us and spent an hour in our midst. Unbelievable experience! $800 of your trip goes to your entrance fee to the Brindi Park. Jackson was our guide and did a great job.

Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. Pre tour discussion with Edison was excellent - advised on logistics and was prompt and polite. We got advised on extra excursions and could pay in advance. Our guide Amanya went above and beyond to give us the most unforgettable experience. Lodgings were comfortable with super friendly staff, food was great, we were well hydrated with water and had a comfy vehicle for some bumpy roads. We just can’t thank you enough and cannot rate more highly. Have already recommended to friends. PS of course the gorillas were outstanding too!

My guide, Herbert, was excellent. Always early, knowledgeable about the countries/locations we were visiting, and very kind. Him and the team pulled strings to get me a gorilla trekking permit last minute. I had a WONDERFUL time and wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommend - as a woman traveling alone I felt safe and comfortable the entire time.

I would like to visit Rwanda in November and would be keen to do see the gorilla. Would you please advise on the availability of permits in November. • Bamboo EcotoursOperatorWritten July 2025

Gorilla permits are generally available in November for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Note that a gorilla permit in Rwanda costs USD 1,500 compared to USD 800 in Uganda. We can definitely drop you off in Kampala on the last day of the tour.

I would be keen to visit Bwindi in Uganda, as indicated in the itinerary. The only difference is that on the last day I would like to be dropped off in Kampala instead of Kigali so that I can explore Uganda too. I am looking at mid to end Nov in this case. Would it be a good time weather-wise for gorilla trekking?

    • Bamboo EcotoursOperatorWritten July 2025

There is a likelihood of rain in November, but it does not affect gorilla trekking. You would have to carry a raincoat just in case it rains.

    Asked on December 22nd, 2024

Will we need 2 visas or a multi entry visa for Rwanda? We arrive there, then go to Uganda, then back to Rwanda on this tour.

    Visa
    • Bamboo EcotoursOperatorWritten December 2024

You will need a visa called "East Africa Tourist Visa", which you will obtain when you arrive at Kigali international airport. That visa costs USD100 and grants multiple entries into Uganda and Rwanda. That means the visa will work when you enter Rwanda, and entering Uganda, and when you return to Rwanda after the trek.

    • C

      Charles

      TravelerWritten December 2024

We start our trip in Kenya, We were going to get an East Africa visa on arrival in Kenya. We then travel to Tanzania, then back to Kenya. We then fly to Rwanda and travel to Uganda. Will the East Africa visa be void if we leave Kenya for Tanzania - not one of the East Africa countries?

    • Bamboo EcotoursOperatorWritten December 2024

Kenya no longer subscribes to the East Africa tourist visa. You will need an eTA for Kenya. Tanzania is also not part of the East Africa tourist visa treaty. So in summary, you will need 3 types of visas for your East Africa tour. 1. eTA for Kenya 2. A single entry tourist visa for Tanzania 3. East Africa tourist visa to cover Rwanda and Uganda.
