Meticulously planned and well curated tour. Extremely helpful people. Aron was always prompt to answer any queries over the many months that went into planning and changing of plans due to war. We discussed and added a trip to Rwenzori on my request on top of the 8days Gorilla trip and this was also seamlessly done. The hotels were top notch and food was great everywhere.

Best places to start your Uganda tour
Most of our Uganda safaris kick off from Entebbe, with 76% of travelers starting here - it just makes sense given its international airport and position on Lake Victoria's shore just south of Kampala. While Kampala departures are available, Entebbe proves more practical for most visitors. You'll want to book around 55 days ahead, especially for gorilla treks since permits are limited and sell quickly in peak season. Many travelers have found great success combining their gorilla experience with chimp tracking in Kibale Forest, where you've got better than 90% chance of spotting our primate cousins. Early morning light works wonders for wildlife photos, while visits to local communities give you real insight into traditional life here. You'll find everything from high-end lodges to well-appointed tented camps, with many places actively supporting local conservation projects.

Best time to visit Uganda
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Uganda offers two main tour types that our travelers really connect with. The longer journeys run 10 days, taking you from gorilla tracking in Bwindi's forests to watching rhinos at Ziwa sanctuary and up to the rushing waters of Murchison Falls. If you're short on time, the 6-day tours zero in on primates - you'll spend quality time with gorilla families and watch chimps play through Kyambura Gorge's tree canopy. The dry winter conditions make hiking more manageable and bring wildlife closer to water sources. Our guides know the perfect spots for morning game drives when animals come out to start their day.

- Spring 2026
Spring paints Uganda green and brings excellent wildlife viewing. Tours typically run between 8 and 15 days, mixing traditional safaris with local village visits. The 10-day option starts with white water rafting near Jinja before heading west where you'll track gorillas in Bwindi's thick forests. For something more focused, the 8-day tours explore Queen Elizabeth National Park's varied landscapes - you might catch lions lounging in fig trees or hippos cooling off in the Kazinga Channel. Our customers tell us they love how spring mornings stay clear for photos while afternoon showers keep dust levels down.

- Summer 2026
Summer lets you see Uganda's full range of wildlife and landscapes. The full 10-day safaris connect the dots from white rhinos at Ziwa to chimps in Kibale Forest and finally mountain gorillas in Bwindi. Many guests choose the 8-day wildlife tours combining Queen Elizabeth National Park game drives with gorilla encounters. The dry summer air means great visibility for spotting animals, while Uganda's high elevation keeps temperatures pleasant. Our guides plan around the heat - they'll get you out early for game drives and schedule boat trips when animals gather near the water.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn creates perfect conditions for exploring Uganda's diverse regions. Our comprehensive 10-day tours cover everything from watching hippos in the Kazinga Channel to following gorilla tracks through mountain forests. The 8-day tours focus on both primates and big cats - you'll meet gorillas and chimps while looking for lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park. For a quicker trip, 6-day tours concentrate on gorilla encounters with stops at local villages and crater lakes along the way. The mild autumn temperatures and light rains keep trails firm but not dusty, which our travelers really appreciate. Based on what our travelers tell us, two safari companies stand out in Uganda. Mukisa Safaris, run by Richard, gets consistently great feedback for how well they handle everything - from putting together custom trips to sorting things out when travel plans hit a snag. The guides there, like Veronica, Joan and also Allen, really know their stuff and help visitors connect with both the wildlife and local culture in meaningful ways. If you're watching your budget, Enchanted Uganda Safaris is worth looking into. Their lead guide Bosco has earned solid reviews for running well-organized trips that still feel personal. They manage to deliver a proper safari experience without the premium price tag that some operators charge. Both companies are reliable choices - it really comes down to your specific budget and what kind of experience you're after. Mukisa tends to be more high-end with lots of customization, while Enchanted Uganda offers good value without cutting corners on the important stuff.

What Makes Uganda Special for Safaris?
You'll find something really unique in Uganda that Kenya and Tanzania can't match - it's home to 70% of the world's mountain gorillas right in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The landscapes here are incredible too from the sweeping savannas of Queen Elizabeth National Park to the misty peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains there's just so much variety to explore.
When Should I Book Those Gorilla Permits?
Don't wait on this one you'll want to lock in those permits at least 6 months ahead especially if you're thinking about going during peak season which runs June through August or December to February. They limit daily visitors so permits go fast - just ask Veronica who traveled with Mukisa Safaris she'll tell you how valuable their help was in securing her spot.
Can I Drive Myself Around Uganda's Parks?
While you can technically self-drive it's pretty challenging with the road conditions here. Your best bet is getting a 4x4 and connecting with a local expert like Bosco from Enchanted Uganda Safaris. His clients rave about his driving skills and local knowledge and he's great at finding those hidden spots most tourists miss. On his 11 Days Uganda Plus Gorillas tour he takes folks to special places like Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary the only spot in Uganda where you can see white rhinos.
Where's Best for Spotting Lions?
Head to Queen Elizabeth National Park particularly the Kasenyi Plains if lions are on your must-see list. Early morning game drives are your best chance to catch them coming back from hunts or you might spot them lounging in the afternoon heat. Want to up your chances? Try the lion experiential tracking that Oree Safaris offers on their 10-day wildlife tour they really know their stuff when it comes to finding these magnificent cats.
How Can I Support Local Communities While I'm There?
There are some wonderful ways to make a real difference while you're exploring Uganda. You can join village walks check out community projects or pick up locally crafted souvenirs. Ride 4 A Woman in Buhoma is doing amazing work - they offer homestays and cultural experiences that directly support local women and their families. Mukisa Safaris features this initiative on their 10-day exclusive tour and it's a fantastic way to experience authentic Uganda while helping the community.
