What people love about Wildlife Tours in Africa
- Madagascar Wildlife Tour 14D/13N
We saw more wildlife than we imagined was possible. Our guide Roberto took wonderful care of us, and our driver Telly was great as well. The local park guides were really knowledgeable and helpful. It was a bucket list trip for us and we came away amazed.
- Delta & Falls Westbound: Natural Wonders & Wildlife
Overall this tour was really enjoyable! The campsites were a lot better than I expected (all had reasonable showers and good facilities). The guides were very friendly and open to feedback which was great and provided a good open communication platform for the trip. The things we got to experience were outstanding! Okavango Delta camping (be warned it is basic! But worth it) and Chobe game drives were a definite highlight. Would recommend.
- Wildlife Encounter
Had a great experience on this tour! Guide & Driver: Ali was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Her patience and positive attitude didn't falter. Could not have asked for a better guide. She was always so approachable and helpful and really went over and above to make sure we had a great experience. Her maturity and leadership were also amazing in handling a group with a lot of bit personalities. Patrick our driver was also outstanding. Very helpful and made it a priority to always look out for our safety which was invaluable. His knowledge of some pretty precarious roads was beyond impressive and he truely was a gentleman to all of us on the tour. The mix of a Western guide and local driver was also great and really helped to cover all bases. Emily (trainee) had a great attitude and was generally pretty approachable. However there were a few instances where it felt as though she was a part of the tour group as opposed to a leader (for example, at times talking negatively about others on the tour) and also some times where leadership was required (e.g. roof of bus beginning to break), where she was preoccupied with socialising with the group as opposed to prioritising this potential hazard. However, totally appreciate that this was her first tour and it is a very steep learning curve, just think a little more time and experience may be required. :) General structure: I thought this tour was run really well! It is most definitely an overland tour so you need to be prepared for camping, going with the flow and working as a team. I have done other overland tours of similar style (with G adventures) and have to say, the Absolute Africa tour was definitely comparable, if not better (particularly as the price of Absolute Africa is a lot better than some of the other companies - definitely value for money). Jobs were shared evenly around camp, tents were really good quality and sleeping matts very comfortable. The facilities at the camp site were definitely better than I expected (most were well maintained with adequate bathroom facilities). The food on the tour was also a lot better than I though! Had some really delicious meals (to the point where I was asking for recipes...). The only complaint would be that some of the optional activities mentioned in the pre departure information were not mentioned at all on the tour, so a little communication around these would be great (e.g. golden monkey trek, grave visit etc).
What our customers ask about Wildlife Tours & Trips in Africa
What are the must-see wildlife destinations in Africa?
Africa's premier wildlife destinations offer distinct experiences across the continent. The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania draws visitors to witness the great wildebeest migration while Botswana's Chobe National Park houses Africa's largest elephant population with 50000 of these remarkable creatures. Kenya's Masai Mara and Namibia's Etosha National Park provide excellent year-round game viewing. For primate encounters Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to mountain gorillas and Zambia's South Luangwa National Park specializes in walking safaris. A G Adventures traveler shared: "The experience in Tanzania both Zanzibar and the Serengeti were some of the best experiences I've ever had."
What type of accommodation can I expect on an African wildlife safari?
Safari accommodations range from basic camping to high-end luxury lodges. The Kidepo Savannah Lodge in Uganda provides comfortable rooms overlooking the plains while the Sereronera Budget Campsite in Serengeti delivers a more rustic experience. Most lodges offer private bathrooms communal viewing areas and dining facilities. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "The lodges were very clean and served delicious meals with incredible views of the surrounding wildlife."
When is the best time to go on a Wildlife tour in Africa?
Optimal wildlife viewing seasons vary across Africa. The Serengeti and Tanzania shine from late November through March when wildebeest herds populate the southern plains. Kenya's Masai Mara peaks from July through September during the Great Migration. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Going in September we caught the end of the migration in Kenya and as we travelled south through Africa the wildlife viewing was incredible with countless unreal moments."
How close do you get to wildlife during game drives?
Game drives take place in specialized 4x4 vehicles led by trained guides who understand safe wildlife approach distances. Parks like Etosha and Chobe allow close animal encounters while maintaining appropriate safety protocols. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Game viewing in Uganda and Rwanda is fantastic because the animals are more relaxed and do not flee when they see us but just keep eating bathing and continuing with their normal activities."
Should I choose a guided or self-drive safari in Africa?
First-time visitors benefit most from guided safaris. Professional guides know prime wildlife spots understand animal behavior and manage logistics. While parks like Kruger allow self-driving guided tours typically result in more wildlife sightings. The guides share valuable information about local ecosystems and cultures. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Our guide's knowledge of animal tracking and behavior made all the difference in spotting the Big Five in Serengeti."
How long should I plan for an African wildlife safari?
Most visitors need 6-14 days to explore Africa's wildlife properly. The 11-day Tanzania Wildlife Safari covers major sites like Serengeti Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire. Shorter 6-day tours focus on key locations for those with limited time. A TourRadar traveler advised: "Even though distances were great and we spent time traveling we saw so much - the 6-day tour is exceptional value for money."
