I really enjoyed my trip and safari in Rwanda and my experience with Devine African Safari: from the office staff to my driver/guide, I always got answers to my questions and solutions to my problems in a smooth way. My driver/guide Boaz was very knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics and helpful in every way. One small suggestion: the trip is organised with 2 nights at the Emerald Kivu (really nice!) and 5 nights at the Garden Place hotel (well located, excellent comfort) which is convenient. However I would suggest more flexibility for meal arrangements: 5 days with all meals in the same hotel is a bit repetitive. I certainly recommend Devine Tour Safari and TourRadar to anyone willing to visit Rwanda!

Best places to start your Rwanda tour
Most Rwanda journeys kick off from Kigali, with 78 of our travelers beginning there last season. While some tours start from Musanze, Rubavu, Nairobi and also Entebbe, these aren't as typical. Book around 41 days ahead to get the dates you want - this is particularly key for gorilla permits since they're strictly limited. Our guests who planned this far ahead usually got their preferred trekking dates without issue. Take a full day to explore Kigali itself - our visitors often mention how safe and clean the city feels, with plenty of cultural spots to discover. Many travelers round out their trip nicely by adding chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest or heading to Akagera National Park for classic safari drives, making it a complete Rwandan experience.

What our customers ask about Rwanda Tours & Trips
Is Rwanda Safe for Tourists?
Rwanda's actually one of the safest places you can visit in Africa these days. The country really prioritizes security and crime rates stay consistently low which is great news for travelers. You can tell from what people say on TourRadar they feel super comfortable there - the whole place just has this peaceful organized vibe about it. Like one traveler mentioned "I highly recommend using New Horizon! They made traveling during covid as easy as it could be. I also recommend using Emmanual as your tour guy. He is the nicest person who went out of his way to ensure we had the best trip." And another shared "Coming from trekking Gorillas in Rwanda. The trip was amazing from reservation offices to JP my guide, everyone was nice and friendly."
What is gorilla trekking in Rwanda really like?
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda usually begins early in the morning inside Volcanoes National Park. Guided by expert trackers, you’ll walk through bamboo forests and steep trails looking for one of the park’s habituated gorilla families. The trek can last anywhere from one to four hours depending on where the gorillas are that day. Conditions can be muddy or uneven but the chance to stand quietly just a few feet away from a group of mountain gorillas makes the effort worth it. Permits cost about $1,500 per person which helps fund conservation and supports local communities.
What else can you do in Rwanda besides see gorillas?
Rwanda has plenty to offer beyond gorilla trekking. Nyungwe Forest is a popular spot for hiking and chimpanzee tracking with trails that range from short walks to multi-day treks. You can also visit Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes, where you’ll find clean swimming spots, boat trips, and small islands to explore. The area is known for coffee plantations and relaxed lakefront stays. For travelers interested in history, the Kigali Genocide Memorial gives a powerful introduction to Rwanda’s past. Cultural activities are easy to find too, from visiting local villages to meeting Gorilla Guardians — former poachers who now work in conservation and often share personal stories about the transition.
When should you visit Rwanda for the best experience?
The best time to visit Rwanda is during the dry seasons which run from June to September and December to February. Trails tend to be easier to manage and it’s often simpler to spot gorillas when the vegetation is thinner. Thanks to its elevation, Rwanda stays mild year-round, so it’s possible to plan a trip at any time. If you’re thinking about combining countries, Rwanda pairs well with Kenya or Tanzania for safari add-ons. Uganda is another option for gorilla trekking and has lower permit costs. Trips like 10 Days Rwanda Chimps & Gorillas Discovery make it easy to link experiences across borders with add-ons like volcano climbs, visits to Dian Fossey’s research site, or second gorilla treks if permits are available.
