Reviews of 7 day Tours from Porto
- Portugal By High-Speed Train
I was traveling with a friend, but, in Lisbon, our hotel reservations were in separate hotels. We did not compare itineraries before we left, assuming we were booked in the same hotels. When we tried to call the agency to see if it could be changed, the contact was difficult to understand and she ended up hanging up on us before we could complete the conversation.
- Best of North Portugal with Porto, Minho and Douro Valley
Great package. Incredible how diverse North of Portugal is, with all its beautiful regions full of character. The included meals were delicious and everything was very comfortable, from the transportation to the hotels. Will return and recommend using Portugal travel center, Daniela and Pedro were brilliant in setting everything for us.
- Gems of Porto & the Douro Valley with Douro River Cruise - 5 Days in Portugal
This was a wonderful experience, there were no problems and very informative. The guides were fluent in English and knew Porto like the palm of their hands. All in all it was great. I will definitely travel with you again.
What our customers ask about Best 7 day Tours from Porto
When is the best time to take a 7-day tour from Porto?
Spring (March to May) and fall (September to October) are perfect for Porto tours. You'll get pleasant temperatures around 60-70°F (15-21°C) in spring and 65-75°F (18-24°C) in fall, plus fewer tourists. If you're interested in wine, September is amazing because you can see the grape harvest in the Douro Valley. Spring brings beautiful flowers to places like Braga and Guimarães. Summer can get hot at around 85°F (29°C), and winter brings some rain but stays mild at about 50°F (10°C).
What are the most popular places to visit on 7-day tours from Porto?
Your tour will take you through the gorgeous Douro Valley, where you'll visit charming places like Aveiro, often called Portugal's Venice. You'll explore Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Braga with its famous Bom Jesus Sanctuary. Many tours use the Hotel Carris Ribeira in Porto as a home base, and you might stay at places like the Quinta de Casaldronho Wine Hotel in the valley. One traveler told us, "The variety of destinations from Porto to the Douro Valley offered stunning landscapes and cultural experiences unlike anywhere else."
What special experiences can I have on a 7-day tour from Porto?
You might find yourself on the Spirit of Chartwell, the same boat Queen Elizabeth II used for her Diamond Jubilee, as you cruise down the Douro River. You'll taste port wine in historic cellars, watch traditional fado music shows, and visit UNESCO sites throughout your trip. One recent traveler shared, "The Douro Valley tour is beautiful...the winery visits were breath-taking." Many tours include stays at places like the historic Hotel Régua Douro, where you'll experience real Portuguese hospitality.
What kind of weather can I expect during different seasons in Porto?
The best touring weather is from April through October, with temperatures between 68-82°F (20-28°C). Spring months are lovely with flowers blooming across the Douro Valley. Wine lovers should consider September or October when the grape harvest is happening. Just keep in mind that July and August can get pretty hot, especially in the Douro Valley where it might reach 95°F (35°C). Most hotels, like the Vila Galé Porto Ribeira, have great cooling systems for those warmer days.
Where will I stay during a 7-day tour from Porto?
Most tours put you up in 4-star hotels and countryside properties. In Porto, you might stay at the Riberia House or Hotel Carris Ribeira-Porto. When you're in wine country, expect to sleep at places like Quinta de Casaldronho, where you'll wake up to vineyard views. In cities like Braga and Guimarães, you'll stay in hotels close to the main sights. Our travelers really love places like the Torre de Rio, with one saying it "combines comfort with authentic Portuguese hospitality."
How much time will we spend on the road?
The driving times are pretty reasonable. It takes about 2 hours to reach the Douro Valley from Porto (75 miles/120 kilometers), and about an hour to get to Braga or Guimarães (30-40 miles/50-65 kilometers). The longest drive is to the Spanish border, about 3 hours. You'll travel in comfortable buses with air conditioning, and there are plenty of stops to stretch your legs and take photos. Our travelers often mention that the drives feel well-planned and include interesting stops along the way.
