What people love about Camping Tours
- Classic Namibia 12 Days DEPARTING SATURDAYS **Sustainable Approach to Travel
Our 12‑day Namibia Classic Camping Safari with World Adventure Tours was an incredible blend of breathtaking landscapes and easygoing companionship. We journeyed from the wildlife-rich north through Mt. Etjo, Okonjati Reserve, and the magical nighttime wildlife watching at Etosha’s Okaukuejo waterhole, down to the dramatic Skeleton Coast, dunes of Sossusvlei, haunting Kolmanskop, and finally to the vast expanse of Fish River Canyon and the quiver tree forest. We experienced so much of this beautiful, diverse country. What made the trip truly special were the people. Erastus guided us with quiet confidence and personal insights. He made sure we kept to our schedule while also giving us opportunities for spontaneous moments and unforgettable photo opportunities. And Bronie, our assistant and chef, kept us grounded and content with delicious meals and great humor. Plus, our fellow travelers—laughing over the bumpy roads of the game drives, helping each other put up our tents, singing by the campfire, watching the meteorite shower together on a dark night at our campsite—turned the journey into a shared adventure rather than just a tour. I highly recommend this tour!

What our customers ask about Camping Tours & Trips
What are the typical sleeping arrangements on camping tours?
You'll sleep in two-person tents at established campgrounds. These sites have basic facilities like showers and toilets. If you're camping at Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grand National Park, for example, you'll get amazing beach views right from your tent. Some tours, like the Salkantay Trek in Peru, mix it up with both camping and hotel stays. One traveler told us: "Camping in the Serengeti was magical - falling asleep to lion roars and waking up to zebras outside the tent."
What locations offer the best camping experiences?
You'll find incredible camping spots in Africa's national parks, where you can wake up to wildlife in the Serengeti or Kruger. The Andes Mountains in Peru are perfect if you want to combine camping with hiking adventures. Australia's coastal areas, like Cape Le Grand, let you camp right by the beach. One happy camper shared: "The beachfront campsites along Australia's coast offered incredible sunrise views."
What weather conditions should I prepare for on camping tours?
The weather really depends on where and when you go. In the Serengeti, days can be hot at 86°F (30°C), but nights cool down to 50°F (10°C). If you're camping in the Andes, expect temperatures from 23°F to 68°F (-5°C to 20°C) and some rain. A recent traveler advised: "Bring layers and waterproof gear - mountain weather can change quickly."
What level of physical fitness do I need for a camping tour?
You'll need average to good fitness since you'll be hiking, setting up camp, and moving around on uneven ground. For example, if you're doing the Salkantay Trek, you'll hike at heights up to 15,190 feet (4,630m). Most trips involve walking 4-6 hours daily with a small backpack. Most travelers say the activities are challenging but doable if you're reasonably fit.
What kind of meals are provided during camping tours?
You'll get three meals a day, cooked by camp chefs who know how to make great food outdoors. On tours like the Botswana and Falls Overland, you get 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, and 3 dinners included. The food often gets top marks from travelers - they're always surprised by how good the meals are, even in remote camps. If you need vegetarian, vegan, or halal food, just let them know when you book.
What's the best season for camping tours?
It really depends on where you're going. Want to camp in the Canadian Rockies? Go between June and September when it's warm and the days are long. For African safari camping, pick the dry season from June to October - you'll see more animals. Check the typical weather patterns for your specific destination before you book.
How many people are usually in a camping tour group?
Most groups have between 8 and 20 people - enough to make friends but not so many that it feels crowded. G Adventures keeps their groups to 22 people max, while hiking tours like the Salkantay Trek usually have 8-12 people. One traveler mentioned: "The small group size of 12 people was perfect for bonding and sharing the camping experience."
