- Day 1
Arrival and Sacred Sites
Book your flight to arrive at Ayers Rock Airport before 1:30 PM. A free shuttle will take you to your accommodation in about 15 minutes. Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre by 2:30 PM before your base tour. The 10km drive around Uluru shows you rock art sites and sacred spaces like the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Bring at least 1 liter of water regardless of season. For the best sunset views head to the viewing area 45 minutes early to watch Uluru change from ochre to deep red. Wear closed shoes since the viewing area gets dusty.
- Day 2
Sunrise and Kata Tjuta
Start your day early. Leave 90 minutes before sunrise to reach the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area. Pack warm clothes since desert mornings are cold even in summer. After sunrise drive 45 minutes to Kata Tjuta. Take the Walpa Gorge walk (1.3km return) which needs about an hour and moderate fitness. The path can be uneven and slippery when wet. Wear good walking shoes and in summer bring a flynet. Rest in the afternoon before watching another Uluru sunset.
- Day 3
Field of Light and Departure
Begin your last day before dawn to see Bruce Munro's Field of Light installation. You can easily follow the paths through 50,000 light spheres but bring a small flashlight just in case. The sunrise platform gives you a new view of both Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Schedule your departure flight after 9:30 AM to fit in morning activities and airport transfer time.
