Best tour companies for Western Australia tours
Based on what our travelers tell us, Autopia Tours hits the mark with their guides - Linda, Wokka and Jason get mentioned a lot for really knowing their stuff and making everyone feel welcome on tour. The accommodation quality isn't always consistent though, and some tours have strayed from the planned schedule. There was a bit of drama when Aussie Wanderer had to close down, but TourRadar stepped in quickly to help affected travelers find new tours. Those customers ended up pretty happy with how it all worked out and enjoyed the replacement tours they booked. The guides seem to be the real strength here - they keep getting genuine praise from people who've done these tours. But if you're considering booking, just know the hotels can be hit or miss, and the daily plans might need some flexibility. [Note: I've kept the key facts while making it flow more naturally, mixed in practical insights about what this means for potential bookings, and maintained a professional but conversational tone throughout.]

Best places to start your Western Australia tour
Perth kicks off most Western Australia tours - 56 of our routes start from the capital. Broome's pretty popular too with 17 tours leaving from there (you can thank Cable Beach and its pearl-diving heritage for that), while Darwin starts 11 different journeys heading south through the outback. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock things in about 81 days before you plan to go, especially if you're keen to see whale sharks at Ningaloo or catch the wildflowers in bloom. Our travelers typically spend 10-14 days exploring the region, and winter's a smart choice for nice weather and fewer crowds. When you head into the remote spots, our local guides come prepared with supplies, safety know-how and tips for finding the best wildlife photo spots and authentic cultural experiences.

Best time to visit Western Australia
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter brings out the best of Western Australia's coastal adventures, with mild temperatures perfect for long drives and outdoor activities. Our travelers particularly enjoy the 7-day Perth to Exmouth routes during this season, when clear skies and temperatures around 18-25°C make for excellent hiking in Kalbarri National Park and swimming at Ningaloo Reef. The multi-day Karijini tours really shine in winter - our customers love how the cooler weather lets them properly explore the ancient gorges, take refreshing dips in natural pools and also camp under incredibly clear starry skies. The station stays along these routes add a genuine outback touch, with travelers sharing stories around campfires and waking up to fresh scones at working cattle properties like Bullara Station. For those wanting a gentler pace, the coastal tours from Perth north offer excellent wildlife viewing, plus the chance to see migrating whales and wild dolphins at Monkey Mia.

- Spring 2026
Spring sees Western Australia burst into color with wildflower season making it an exceptional time for our walking tours. The Cape to Cape Track tours are particularly popular, offering a mix of coastal trails, inland forest paths and also dramatic clifftop views when the weather's just right. Our travelers love how the Kalbarri National Park sections of the northern tours show off bright blooms against red rock gorges. The Perth to Exmouth routes really work well in spring, letting you combine desert walks, marine life encounters and also those fantastic wildflower displays. Multi-day hikes through the karri forests down south put you right among the flowering season, with our guides pointing out rare orchids and local species you might miss on your own.

- Summer 2026
Summer tours focus on the southern regions and coastal areas where cooling ocean breezes keep things comfortable. Our travelers particularly enjoy the Albany-based tours during this season, combining morning hikes in the Stirling Ranges with afternoon visits to pristine beaches. The Valley of the Giants treetop walks offer welcome shade under ancient karri forests, while the coastal sections provide chances to cool off in secluded coves. Margaret River tours work well in summer too, mixing morning cave explorations with afternoon wine tastings and also cultural visits. Many of our customers mention how the guides thoughtfully adjust the daily schedule to make the most of cooler morning hours for activities.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn brings ideal conditions for exploring the Pilbara region, with our Perth to Exmouth and Karijini combination tours proving especially popular. The moderate temperatures make it perfect for deep gorge exploration, swimming in hidden waterholes and also enjoying the outback camping experience. Our travelers particularly value how these tours mix coastal sections like snorkeling at Ningaloo Reef with inland adventures through ancient landscapes. The Cape to Cape Track walks hit their stride in autumn too, with stable weather perfect for covering the long coastal sections and forest trails. Many of our customers mention how the seasonal timing lets them enjoy both the walking and swimming aspects of these tours without the summer heat.

What's the best way to see Western Australia beyond the cities?
You'll find amazing natural areas like Karijini National Park and Ningaloo Reef just waiting to be explored. Most visitors either join 4WD tours take their own vehicle or hit the hiking trails its really up to your style. If you want something organized our 6-Day Karijini and Ningaloo Explorer takes care of everything combining awesome hikes with refreshing swims in Karijini's gorges.
How can visitors experience local Aboriginal culture?
There's some really authentic Aboriginal cultural experiences around WA where you can check out ancient rock art hear traditional stories and try bush tucker. The Kimberley's great for this especially around Fitzroy Crossing with the Darlgunya Cultural Walk. Carnarvon's got the Gascoyne Aboriginal Centre and there's some fantastic First Nations galleries like the one in Northampton. Our guests love the Didgeridoo Dreaming Night Tour and meeting Nhanda and Malgana people at Monkey Mia its actually part of our 8-Day Boutique tour. For families the Kimberley Family Holiday includes this great stop at Norval Art Gallery in Derby where kids get creative with their own artwork.
What are some hidden gem routes through Western Australia?
The Gibb River Road's probably the most famous 4WD adventure you'll find it cuts right through the Kimberley with these incredible gorges and rugged landscapes. Then there's Indian Ocean Drive which is perfect if you want to do your own thing it takes you past some amazing spots like the Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park and that stunning Pink Lake at Hutt Lagoon the coastal views are just incredible.
Which amazing places in WA don't get the crowds they deserve?
Lesueur National Park's this incredible spot north of Perth with over 820 different wildflower species its stunning but not many people know about it. Chapman Valley's another hidden gem with these beautiful heritage buildings and amazing wildflower displays. Northampton's got this wonderful mix of 19th-century architecture and a First Nations gallery that's really worth checking out. And Mullewa wow the wildflowers especially the unique Wreath flowers are just incredible but it stays pretty quiet even during peak season.
