The tour was really amazing, especially due to our very excellent tour guide Holly. Her knowledge was vast, on animals, plants or cultural aspects of the tour.

The tour was well worth the money for the venues visited. The tour operators were fun and very knowledgable about the sites we visited. The only drawback was the very long bus rides each day to visit the parks.

Best time to visit Kakadu National Park
- Spring 2026
Spring brings fresh green landscapes as Kakadu transitions from wet to dry season. Most people opt for our 4-6 day tours that combine Kakadu with Katherine Gorge and also Litchfield National Park. You'll find great value in tours featuring the Mary River Wetlands cruise, Aboriginal art at Burrungkuy and swims at Wangi Falls. The changing weather patterns make wildlife viewing particularly good - our customers regularly spot jabirus, sea eagles and also crocodiles during the Yellow Water Billabong cruises.

- Summer 2026
Summer's wet season transforms Kakadu into a water-rich landscape teeming with wildlife. Our 2-3 day tours showcase the monsoonal beauty with visits to flowing falls and expanded wetlands. The Yellow Water cruises are particularly special now as the billabong extends far beyond its dry season borders. You'll still get rich cultural experiences year-round, exploring significant Aboriginal art sites and learning traditional customs from local guides. While some spots might be harder to reach, you'll see Kakadu at its most vibrant and enjoy popular sites with fewer people around.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn brings mild temperatures and the wet season's final rains, creating ideal conditions to explore Kakadu's diverse environments. Most visitors choose our 3-4 day tours that mix camping adventures with cultural experiences. Our customers really value autumn's combination of accessible walking trails and waterfalls that are still flowing well. Small group 4WD tours can reach hidden spots like Motor Car Falls and Maguk, while coach tours offer a comfortable way to see highlights like Nourlangie Rock's Aboriginal art and also Yellow Water Billabong's wildlife cruises. From what our travelers tell us, you've got two really solid choices for Kakadu guided tours. Autopia Tours consistently delivers excellent experiences, and their guides Elliott, Carlos and also Darren receive lots of positive mentions. They've got this great way of mixing fun with facts - you learn a lot without feeling like you're in a lecture. Intrepid Travel is another strong option, with Maurice in particular getting fantastic feedback. He's got this special talent for making every stop interesting and keeping everyone engaged throughout the journey. What's nice about both companies is how their guides adapt the commentary to match what the group is interested in. The guides from both companies know their stuff about Kakadu's wildlife, Aboriginal culture and also geological features. Our travelers often mention how the personal stories and local knowledge these guides share really add something special to the experience.

What Makes Kakadu So Amazing?
Kakadu's actually got this really special dual World Heritage listing which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. The park's managed together with the traditional Aboriginal owners the Bininj/Mungguy people and honestly there's just so much to see. You've got this incredible rock art that goes back more than 20000 years diverse ecosystems from wetlands to dramatic escarpments and waterfalls plus wildlife everywhere including 280 different types of birds and both saltwater and freshwater crocs roaming around.
Is Swimming Safe with All Those Crocodiles?
You can definitely swim in Kakadu but you've got to be smart about it since crocs are pretty much everywhere in the waterways. Always check the signs and listen to what the rangers tell you. There's some really nice safe spots at Jim Jim Falls Maguk and Gunlom Falls where you can cool off. Just keep in mind during the wet season November through April swimming's usually not a great idea because the crocs get more active and there's flooding to think about.
Which Rock Art Sites Should I Definitely See?
The big three are Ubirr Nourlangie and Mawurndaddja and they're absolutely incredible. These galleries have been around for 20000 years showing all these amazing Aboriginal stories and traditions like hunting scenes and daily life. Taking a guided tour really brings it all to life because they explain things like the meaning behind Namarrgon the lightning man at Nourlangie that you might just walk right past otherwise.
