- BCBarbara· August 6th, 2018The itinerary covered an interesting variety of places and activities, but 1 or 2 days longer would be better, to shorten the long driving days. It was frustrating and difficult often setting up and pulling down tents in the dark. The big yellow truck served it's purpose most of the time. My 'average' rating was because the truck broke down and underwent repairs, so we lost time and comfort as a result. Patrick the driver was fantastic - professional, friendly, experienced. Everyone had complete confidence in his competence at the wheel in some very difficult circumstances. The accommodation varied enormously - from fantastic on Zanzibar island, to having no water supply in one building for nearly 2 days in Kisoro. Most was basic, as expected on this type of trip, but it was good to alternate between camping and indoor accommodation. Most meals were good considering the conditions - nutritious and with enough choices to cover most dietary requirements. Our guide Nash was very experienced. He knew what to do and how and when to do it.Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you for taking the time to leave a review. Asked on February 1st, 2025Can we upgrade accommodation on this tour
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written February 2025
As the tour is primarily a camping tour, we do always recommend that any passengers would be happy to camp for the duration of the tour. For this tour we do spend a 3 nights in dorm accommodation and also in Zanzibar we spend 4 nights in B&B accommodation, in total there are 11 nights camping. There are options to upgrade at some of the campsites at which we stay, however these cannot be pre-booked or guaranteed as it is done on a first come, first serve basis.

Asked on September 2nd, 2024Where and when (time) does the trip start in Kigali? Is there a return transfer from the hotel in Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam on the last day? If yes: to where exactly, and at what time? Absolute Africa has different prices. Is there a best price guarantee? Is there a landline number in Germany or WhatsApp for further information if needed?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written September 2024
This trip departs first thing on day 1 and so we recommend you arrive into Kigali the day prior to departure. You can book accommodation in the city for a night and we recommend Pili Pili Boutique Hotel or Yambi Guesthouse. The trip now includes the Zanzibar accommodation and so there are 18 nights included in total: 11 nights camping, 3 nights dorm accommodation in a lodge or similar, & 4 nights B/B accommodation on Zanzibar Island. The trip includes the ferry from Dar es Salaam TO Zanzibar but the trip finishes on Zanzibar island and there is an international airport there. You can fly out any time the day after the trip finishes, so on 18th November. If you prefer to fly out of Dar es Salaam then we can book the return ferry for you for £35 GBP and you can return to the mainland with the tour leader and group that is continuing their tour further south. You can then book flights from Dar any time after 4pm on the 18th November.

Asked on October 28th, 2022how many people booked already on the 6 Feb 2023 trip? Do you have to join hiking or Bikinis tours? What is your average age?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written October 2022
There are currently 15 people booked on the truck. You do not have to do any hiking if you don't wish. There are various optional activities available on this tour which you can choose to do or not. The average age on our trips is usually mid twenties to late thirties/early forties.

Asked on May 23rd, 2022I have some questions/concerns about this trip - if it's been run since covid, if tours are generally full, if everything can be done as normal since covid, questions about insurance options that seem inconsistent on your website. Would someone be able to call me back to discuss please?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written May 2022
We are restarting all of our tours from the end of June and our crew and staff are currently preparing for this. Optional activities have not changed due to Covid and the highlights on the tours are all still the same as before and as advertised. We are running at reduced capacity over the northern hemisphere summer months and the trucks are busy with some trips fully booked including the July and August Rainforests and Reefs. Tours departing from the autumn have better availability. For Absolute Africa tours we do require you to have insurance in place prior to travel. You will need to ensure that the policy understands the nature of the trip and covers activities such as gorilla trekking, white water rafting, hiking etc.

Asked on March 8th, 2019Is tipping included?

Asked on August 1st, 2016Is it possible to just spend 2 days in Zanzibar, instead of 4?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written August 2016
Our trips are pre set departures, so unfortunately we cannot adjust the itineraries as the trip is with a group. You are free to leave the trip whenever you like however there would be no reduction in cost as the departures are pre-set.
