Asked on August 21st, 2023Me and my girlfriend LOVE to dive. Is it also possible to go diving in the days we are in Zanzibar?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written August 2023
There is a dive shop at Kendwa Beach next to the hotel where we stay. It is called Zanzibar Watersports so you can contact them via their website for further details.

Traveler•Written August 2023Could you explain me a little bit more about the trip? Will we sleep on matrasses or air matrasses? Is it possible to share a tent/room with only my girlfriend? And in tents that we have to bring and put up ourselfs? How many hours per day do we travel and how many hours of sightseeing? For example the savanna, will we be in cars driving for days and days or will there be things to do in between? Also will there be flight tickets we have to book for in Africa itself or only from our home country (Netherlands) to Tanzania and then from Rwanda back to Netherlands? Will the one in June be the only travel or are there also other dates in for example July or August?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written August 2023
1.) We provide high density (4 inch thick) foam sleeping mats. You can also bring a self inflating mat if you wish but this must fit inside your main bag/backpack. 2.) We provide 3 man tents to share between just 2 people so you and your girlfriend will have a tent to yourself. On Zanzibar you will have a double room to share just between yourselves. 3.) We provide the tents and you will put it up and down each day. The tour leader will explain how this is done at the start of the trip. 4.) You will need to book international flights to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and then out of Kigali, Rwanda. You don't need any internal flights in Africa. 5.) We have not yet released later 2024 dates. This tour is part of our northbound route which was introduced much later than our main southbound route and so has always been quieter.

Traveler•Written August 2023Thank you so much for this information! How large are the groups normally? And is it already clear which hotel it will be on Zanzibar? Also, what do you mean with north and southbound travels? Which travel is southbound and why is that one more popular? We just decided like a week ago that we wanted to travel to Africa because we recently went to Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam and now want something else so we are not too informed yet about north and south travels.
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written August 2023
We have run southbound tours starting since we started the company in the early 80s. The northbound route we introduced more recently so these tend to be quieter. The southbound route for the tour that you are looking at is the Rainforests and Reefs tour starting in Kigali and ending with the chance to go to Zanzibar Island. On Zanzibar we book at Sunset at Kendwa Beach and then at a local traditional lodge in Stone Town called All Seasons.

Traveler•Written August 2023What time is the best time to see the gorillas an do safari? Because I also see you giving options for the north tour for March and April but is that a good time to go?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written August 2023
March through May is typically the long rainy season in East Africa and in this time the vegetation grows, so the scenery is lush. Animals are still in the parks although it may be slightly trickier to spot them through the longer grasses and so this is known to be low season. For gorilla trekking there is no high or low season as such as the gorillas are in the forest and tend to make openings for the family to relax in so they are usually quite visible. June to October and December to March are known as high season for safaris as game viewing is at its best in these periods.

Sandra
Traveler•Written July 2024Do we need to buy our own air mattress or is it accommodated? Also a light for inside the tent?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written July 2024
You do not need a sleep mat as we provide high density foam sleep mats for you. It is useful to get a head torch or at least a torch to help with lighting in your tent.

Asked on June 28th, 2022How many adults stay in each tent, dorm and hotel room together for your Zanzibar to Gorillas tour? Is there any possibility of upgrading to have just two adults together in each area?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written June 2022
We provide the tents for our tours and these are 3-man dome tents in which we only sleep x2 people. If you have a travelling companion/partner then you would both share together for the 11 nights camping. On Zanzibar too, you will be able to have your own twin/double room to share and will not need to upgrade to do so. For the 3 nights in dorm accommodation there may be a chance to upgrade to a private room although this cannot be pre booked and is done on a first come, first serve basis and is payable direct to the campsite.
