    Reykjavik

You'll land in Reykjavik with volcanic peaks and ocean views framing the city. Start by getting oriented and deciding what calls to you first. Later this evening, meet your group over dinner and settle in.

  2. Day 2

    Golden Circle to Hvolsvollur Valley

Leave Reykjavik early to tackle the Golden Circle route. You'll see Thingvellir National Park where Iceland's first parliament was established, plus the Silfra fissure where tectonic plates are pulling apart. The Strokkur geyser shoots water about 100 feet up regularly, then you'll check out the powerful Gullfoss Waterfall. Finish the day at a farm guesthouse in Hvolsvollur Valley, where clear skies might bring Northern Lights sightings.

  3. Day 3

    South Coast to Jokulsarlon

Morning takes you to Skogafoss waterfall, which rises about 200 feet high. Climb the stairs for viewpoint access where rainbows sometimes appear in the mist on sunny days. Continue down the South Shore to see Reynisdrangar rock formations, Dyrholaey promontory, and Reynisfjara's black sand beach. This afternoon, head to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon to watch icebergs floating in the water. You'll stay at a farm on the South Coast with another chance for Northern Lights if conditions cooperate.

  4. Day 4

    Vatnajokull Glacier to Vik

You've got flexibility today. One option involves hiking on Vatnajokull, Europe's largest ice cap, which holds roughly 30 glaciers (though it's retreating due to climate change). Alternatively, walk to a glacier tongue or return to Jokulsarlon or Fjallsarlon glacial lagoons. If you prefer something calmer, explore the farm property or visit the Thorbergur Centre. Later, you'll head to Vik, the country's southernmost settlement on the mainland, positioned between dramatic cliffs and the sea.

Browse the city's art galleries to see what local artists are showing. If Northern Lights haven't appeared yet, you can head outside town to search for them this evening, or slip into the Blue Lagoon's geothermal waters instead. Arni is/was everything you want in a tour guide. (I've traveled for 40 years.) For example: -humorous: made things light-hearted and fun -patient: gracefully responded to travelers who missed announced meeting places -competent: mastery of tour subject matter, for example: Iceland history, culture, language, sites visisted -humble: welcoming, not make you feel stupid, to novices like me of Icelandic things -considerate: cheerfully acomodated requests to stop (for toilets, grocery, wine stores) -compassionate: jumped in to help mom w/ son who had unexpected nose bleed -skillfull driver -volcano expert Regarding the tour: this Iclelandic Tour was absolutely mind blowing....the natural beauty of the country was other worldly, from volcanoes to glaciers to northern lights. Highly recommend this tour! Go! Go! Go! I recommend Arni as tour guide and Intrepid Travel to anyone visiting Iceland Shawn and Lizzy

The Northern Lights Escape was an outstanding tour that really showcased some of the Icelandic highlights. The tour is well organised with lots of opportunities to see the northern lights (which we did). Our tour guide was absolutely incredible and made the tour extremely memorable. I highly recommend this tour if you want to experience the best of Iceland including everything from waterfalls, local food to the magical northern lights.

Iceland and the Northern Lights was on my bucket list and the trip did not disappoint. We had a great tour group and our tour leader was well organised and knowledgeable. Highlights were the glacier, ice caves and Northern Lights. Scenery along the journey was spectacular - every day was fantastic. Highly recommended trip. I would recommend though you invest in "ice crampons" - the ice is slippery and a fall on the ice is not a recommended part of the trip.

For anyone looking for a short, but very thorough Iceland tour, this trip is for you. It was cloudy during our whole trip, but he still manage to see the northern lights twice! Mostly thanks to the diligence of our guide. We’ve packed a lot into six days and it was wonderful. I want to come back and do the northern side in the summer.
