Itinerary
- Day 1
Tangier to Chefchaouen
You'll arrive in Tangier and have a choice to make right away. Either spend time in the medina or head straight to Chefchaouen, the famous blue city up in the Rif Mountains. Along the way, there's a nice hike out to the Cascades d'Akchour waterfalls if you want to break up the drive. Once you reach Chefchaouen, the narrow blue-washed streets are perfect for wandering around. You can check out the Grand Mosque from the outside, climb up to the kasbah, and make your way to one of the viewpoints for sunset. The views over the entire city from up there are really worth the walk.

Chefchaouen to Fes
Starting early from Chefchaouen, you'll head toward Fes but make a stop at Volubilis first. The Roman ruins there include temples, old merchant homes, and some beautiful mosaics worth seeing. From there, it's on to Meknes, a smaller imperial city where you can walk through the Bab al-Mansour gate, visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and see the Royal Stables. Later, you'll continue to Fes, stopping at the Merenid Tombs for panoramic views of the city before you settle into your riad for dinner.

Fes
This day is all about Fes with a guide who knows the medieval medinas inside and out. You'll walk through Fes el Bali, which dates back to 789 CE, and wander through different souks selling spices, leather goods, and pewter. The Chouara Tannery is worth seeing, especially from the rooftop where you get a real sense of how the work happens. You'll also see the Al Attarine Madrasa from the 14th century, walk through Al-Qarawiyyin University (one of the oldest still operating), and explore the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter. By the end, you'll have covered a lot and gotten views from various spots throughout the city.

Fes to Rabat to Casablanca
Heading north from Fes, you'll reach Rabat, Morocco's capital city. There's the Chellah Necropolis with medieval ruins, then the Kasbah des Oudaias where you can walk into the old city center and see the Andalusian Gardens from the 20th century. Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V are on the agenda too. After that, you'll travel south to Casablanca and spend time along the Boulevard de la Corniche by the Atlantic coast. You can visit the Hassan II Mosque and finish the evening with dinner at Rick's Cafe, which has that classic feel from the old film.

Casablanca to Marrakesh
Start with a morning visit inside the Hassan II Mosque to see the hand-carved stone and wood, the detailed marble work, and gilded cedar ceilings. Then it's time to travel to Marrakesh and get settled into where you're staying. By early evening, head out to Jemaa el-Fna, the main square that really comes alive when the sun starts setting. You'll find musicians, performers, snake charmers, and food stalls set up everywhere. Grab some fresh mint tea and try food from the cafes that overlook the square. It's the best way to get a feel for the energy of Marrakesh.

Marrakesh
Today you'll get to know Marrakesh starting with the Koutoubia Mosque and its 253-foot minaret. Then walk through the souks where you'll find spice sellers, blacksmiths, and slipper makers. Stop by the Ben Youssef Madrasa from the 16th century and check out the medieval fondouks that now serve as residences and shops. The afternoon is flexible with several options. You could visit the 500-year-old Saadian Tombs, the El Badi Palace from the 17th century, or the Bahia Palace built in the 19th century. If you'd rather relax instead, the Majorelle Gardens are a peaceful alternative to all the walking.
