We had a bit of everything: History, adventure, relaxation… Guides/drivers We had the best guides during the cruise time! A big Shoutout to Peter and Youseff! They were super knowledgeable about history, answered all our questions, made the temple visits quite engaging and entertaining and gave us time to explore on our own. The guide in cairo was not the best, but we managed. All our drivers were great, but we want to have a special thanks to the ones that took us to the desert! We had a flat tire and while they tried to solve it, they gave us some boards to go down the dunes and get ourselves entertained while they were fixing the issue. They were also amazing cooks! The dinner we ate at the desert was one of the best we had there! Hotels We stayed at the King Pyramid View, Aracan Eatabe and Sunrise Alma Bay, and they were all great! The people at King Pyramid were super nice, they allowed us to check-in quite early has we arrived in the morning to cairo. The Sunrise Alma Bay also allowed us to stay until late, as our flight was in the night, so we managed to enjoy the day at the beach. The cruise we had was the Nile story and it was quite good and comfortable! The food was tasty and diverse, the views from the cruise were amazing! The desert trip was one of the highlights of this tour! We had a lot of fun, saw amazing views and had the best time! We slept in tents that were set up for us. Less positive points: We had some hiccups, like the lunch from the day we were getting back from the desert was not planned for some reason, and after some arguing from a girl who was with us, they agreed to stop at a place and improvised a meal. It was good. The guide in cairo was not the best and we felt rushed most of the time. The information she gave was always the same, and we were sometimes listening to other guides giving way more detailed explanation to the other tours. Personally I prefer to have all the information on my side about flights, hotels and plans, but we just went with the flow and trusted everything would work out, and it did. So this is probably a cultural difference than anything else, but just trust the process. Overall we truly recommend this tour! There are at least 11 exits or entrances or crossings of the capital. The Cairo guide made us pay for all the parking lots, whereas it's normally up to the driver to pay for them (information given by the other guides). I THEREFORE ASK FOR A REFUND FOR THESE PARKING LOTS! We had a lot of guides. Overall, we were very satisfied. For our visit to the market in Cairo, the guide dropped us off and arranged to meet us. The market didn't really interest us. The last day we took a guide associated with a youth hostel, who took us to the same market, but accompanied us and took us to see Egyptian craftsmen. This was far more interesting than wandering around and being pestered by sellers of handicrafts and/or Chinese products. The second time was in the early afternoon and the vendors were less "drunk" or "insistent" too. A small incident concerning the absence of lunch on returning from the night in the white desert, which ended well with an improvised meal, following our complaints and insistence. For the last dinners included in Cairo, the hotel imposed a meal on us. For the second one, we refused to eat the same thing, and won our case. We're glad they agreed. First of all we hadn't have an itinerary, no telephone number, no adresses. - I had to write ca. 25 messages for coordination and questions - too much. - We booked seperated rooms but get double rooms. After complaining it was changed. - We thought that the tour guides were German-speaking but the tour was in English. - In Abu Simbel the guide explained everything in the car and we went to the temple allone. - We started always early but also early we went back to the accommodation. More visiting time would be fine. - In Hurghada the hotel was noisy, the staff very unfriendly and the meals poor. At the last day there were no drinks for lunch - promised was all inclusive. - I can recomment Tuya Pyramid View Hotel in Cairo- very nice staff and good food. - The Nile cruise was amazing and the food on the ship excellent. - Please, these guided tours to shops are not that what I like. - We had four different guides - too many. - In the White Desert we had only a driver, no guide. It was a cool night in the desert, but we had water only for drinking. The driver had water for washing but didn't give us some. - We booked a sound & light show and prepaid it but then they wanted to pay us again. After complaining it was solved. - Dinner was not always included. I have wide experience in travelling, but Egypt seems to be not that easy for solo independent travelling, so I would definitely recommend to do the tour with Itaca. We then switched to a 4x4 and spent the rest of the day touring the black desert and crystal mountain. We ended the day to a magnificent sunset at Crystal Mountains where we camped for the night to more delicious food with a couple of other tour groups, and songs over the campfire. This is a standard policy in the industry. If you let me know your expected arrival date in Egypt, I can check whether we already have a group on those dates. Standard room setup for a family of three includes three single beds in hotels and Nile cruise. Flight upgrade for Abu Simbel costs $280 USD per person (round trip).
