Reviews of Small Group tours to Egypt
- Agatha Christie Egypt Ultra-Luxury Journey /Abu simbel & domestic flights included/Small Group
We were treated like royalty by Ayman, the local contact person, and our guide, Hassan. At every turn we were overwhelmed by the quality of the accommodation, the beautiful ship, the food and especially the tours. No detail was overlooked. We were promptly met and driven wherever we needed to be whether at airports or tour sites and any personal stops we wanted to make were accommodated. Hassan, who studied four years to become a qualified guide and is fluent in English and Dutch, was informative and always entertaining. He enriched our tours along the Nile with his vast knowledge of Egyptian history and many humorous stories. His kindness to my husband who has health issues will always be remembered as this was a bucket list trip. He became a friend. We highly recommend him as a guide and we highly recommend this fabulous tour. Worth every dollar.

Everything is organized and smooth, and we met a lot of nice and friendly people in Egypt. Tour guide Waleed in Cairo, Thyeb in Luxor and Aswan are both professional and we learn a lot of Egyptian history and culture from them. Thyeb is super friendly, knowledgeable and flexible to change some itinerary and take us to Luxor downtown for a walk to see local living, much appreciated! I am glad we add an optional tour to Mosque Mohammed Ali and have an overview of Cairo city before we leave, thanks Magdy for catering us in a short notification time.

My trip to Egypt was a dream. From my understanding Mac supervised the entire trip through Truly Egypt and did a great job coordinating all the different transportations, hotels, drivers, guides and tickets. Overall my trip went perfectly smoothly, even when my anxiety in busy Cairo threw me for a loop (imagine New York City without traffic laws). My first stop was in Cairo where I visited the Giza Pyramids, Museum and Sphinx with my lovely tour guide Shima. She was knowledgable in Egypt's history as well as how to navigate the insane tourist spots. I stayed at a nice hotel, although the room was more like an apartment and totally extravagant for one night, and had a cool view of the city from my bedroom balcony. My other tour coordinator throughout the trip, Ahmed F., was kind and reassuring throughout my stay in Egypt and helped arrange my transportation from Cairo to Luxor via an overnight sleeper train which, despite my hesitation, ended up being peaceful and easy. Even the train car manager checked on me throughout the night to ensure I had everything I needed. Ahmed also kept in contact with me to make sure I felt comfortable with my next steps in the trip and that I had all my needed contact information. Upon arriving in the Luxor train station that morning I was met by my driver, Khaled M. who took me to my hotel where I met the welcoming coordinator Mohammad. I got to see the gorgeous temples and tourist sites of both East and West banks of the Nile with my incredible tour guide Ahmed S. (otherwise known as Saladino the Great) and was constantly in awe of not only the breathtaking landscape and mind blowing history but with the hospitality and kindness of the people in each city. In higher anxiety times, like crossing traffic and walking past the slightly aggressive shop vendors at the end of each tourist spot, Ahmed S. was polite and skillful at guiding my clumsy and naive self, even not minding the occasional times I'd grab his arm or hand for help. After my designated "itinerary" and leaving my tour guide for the day, my driver Khaled suggested unique and wonderful places to visit and eat and made sure I was safely at each location and finally back safe in my hotel at the end of the night. My hotel in Luxor was SO MAGICAL I could have stayed there forever. I was booked at the Mercure with a gorgeous view of one of the many gardens within the property. I ate dinner from the restaurant outside while enjoying the birds and gorgeous greenery of the courtyard. From the Sundowner terrace bar at the Mercure I ordered a drink (hard to come by in Egypt) and watched the sun set over the West Bank of the Nile. Bucket list, check! I loved the hotel so much that Mac switched my itinerary so I could stay there another night and take the train to Aswan in the morning. After my three hour train ride to Aswan I met my next driver, Amir and we picked up my tour guide for the next two days, Eman. We visited Philae and I paid the extra to visit the Nubian Village (totally worth it if you're looking for an authentic taste of Egypt.) Eman was sweet, funny, down to earth and relatable. Despite us being from two completely different cultures, her Muslim hijab initially intimidated me as my fear the entire week was of offending the native culture, by the end of my trip I would have told anyone she was my sister. I felt so comfortable with her as she guided me past the shop vendors and to the places she knew I would find interesting. On day two in Aswan, Amir and Eman both woke up at the crack of dawn to drive me three hours down to Abu Simbel where she shared the history and we had the best meal of my entire trip, a falafel pita sandwich with fresh veggies (essentially what I'd guess was Egyptian street food.) Then Amir dutifully drove the three hours return to Aswan and I had to sadly say goodbye to my lovely Eman. I had some issues with my return flight and had to board a flight for Cairo that day, not allowing me to take the sleeper train back to Cairo for my final day of tour, but Mac and the other coordinators all made sure I got where I had to be and there would be drivers to take me to the airport as needed. The whole process, while incredibly daunting, was made fluid and cohesive by Mac, Ahmed F., Mohammad, and Khaled in particular who truly went out of their way to confirm my experience was incredible start to finish. I learned so much about the culture, the people, and the history that I could have ever imagined, and I dispelled so many preconceptions I had of the middle east and navigating a culture so different from the one I'm used to. I never imagined I could be welcomed (whether it be by a tea at every shop and stop) or by the downright genuine kindness and selflessness of the the people, especially of the contractors and employees of Truly Egypt, that I am moved. Never did I feel that my safety was in jeopardy or that I was being taken advantage of as a tourist. I will definitely be visiting Egypt again and when I do, I know who to contact. Thank you thank you thank you for a beautiful and enlightening trip. I know I will keep in contact with all of them for years to come. *As a side note, give yourself time in Cairo on your final day to visit the market, Khan el-Khalili (pronounced with a guttural Kh and NOT pronouncing the -el) for some fun shopping. I went as a single woman and had no problems throughout the day saying "la shukran" (no thank you) to the vendors I didn't want to visit. I also never felt threatened or in danger. You can also purchase a tour guide for the markets if you'd like through Truly Egypt, but it was fun to wander. Unfortunately, because of my schedule I went at the beginning of my trip and had to shove my findings into my bag and tote them around all week, which was a pain! Save your shopping until the end. Enjoy!
What our customers ask about Egypt Small Group Tours
What is the typical group size for small group tours in Egypt?
Small group tours in Egypt generally consist of 8-15 travelers providing an ideal balance between social interaction and individual attention. On Nile cruises the boats often accommodate 2-3 small groups with stays at quality accommodations like the Mercure Hurghada Resort. How does the accommodation differ for small group tours versus larger tours?
Travelers on small group tours often stay in select properties such as the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel in Cairo and boutique Nile cruise vessels with 30-40 cabins. One traveler noted "our small group size meant we could visit local markets with our guide and learn about Egyptian spices and customs in a way impossible with large groups."
How does the Nile cruise experience differ with a small group?
Small group Nile cruises operate on upscale boats like the MS Sonesta or MS Jaz Regent offering attentive service preferred cabin choices and relaxed dining. As shared by a TourRadar guest: "With just 6 of us on the cruise portion we had fantastic access to the sundeck personal attention from the crew and could easily gather for historical briefings before each stop at temples like Kom Ombo and Edfu."

The limited group size allows Egyptologist guides to provide detailed explanations tailored to individual interests.
