We're wrapping up our unforgettable Best of Sri Lanka and Maldives tour, and I must say, Sri Lanka was absolutely fantastic. From the breathtaking temples to the stunning scenery and everything in between – it exceeded our expectations. A major highlight was our guide, Buddhika, who truly elevated our experience. Despite expecting a group tour, it turned out to be just my husband and me, which turned out to be perfect. Sasika's easygoing nature, coupled with his wealth of knowledge and recommendations, made the trip truly special. He effortlessly catered to our preferences, ensuring every moment was memorable. His driving skills were top-notch, and his knack for group selfies added a fun touch. Thanks to him, our time in Sri Lanka was filled with excitement and joy. Moving on to the Maldives, while the scenery was undeniably stunning, our experience at the Kaani Grand Seaview Hotel was somewhat lacking. The logistics went smoothly, but the hotel itself fell short of expectations. Perhaps more suited for a younger crowd, it didn't quite meet the comfort standards for us in our 70s. Despite the friendly staff and decent food, the inadequate air conditioning made our stay uncomfortable. Additionally, the early flight departure necessitated an additional expense for an airport transfer, prompting us to relocate to a nearby hotel for our last night. This decision proved wise, as the new hotel provided a much more comfortable experience, complete with functional air conditioning and enjoyable amenities. Hulhumale, where the new hotel was located, also offered more interesting surroundings compared to Maafushi. Despite the minor setbacks in the Maldives, I wholeheartedly recommend this tour company, especially for experiences in Sri Lanka. Their responsiveness and attentiveness both before and during the tour were commendable, with Sasika going above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again in the future.

The chosen hotels in this tour except Maldives were very poor in quality. The cottages in the resorts in Dambulla was so bad, the first one they put us in was with lots of mildew and mold. They transferred us to another cottage which was smelling so bad I had to wear a face mask to sleep. I got sick the following day with sinus and lung congestion that made me cough so badly I was feeling awefull for several days. My husband also got sick. Mr C. Silva our guide/driver knows about it. Being on restricted diet, the choices of food that was offered me was very limitted, only 2 kinds of fish- king fish and tuna otherwise I had to pay extra. Over all the tour was mediocre.

It was a good trip. While it’s a very busy trip, it does cover a lot in 12 days. The hotels selected were all good and provided a wonderful service and food. However I would recommend for travel guides to write down the difficulty levels of activities and let customers decide if they are up to it. Climbing the Sigiriya rock fortress is not for everyone. It’s very steep and requires a great level of fitness. This was not outlined by our guide and we struggled climbing up. While I couldn’t make it, my husband struggled as we had already paid for it. Because of this we were not able to visit other temples as we were tired and not able to enjoy the rest of the day. We also missed the traditional dance and cultural heritage in Kandy as we were so tired and couldn’t enjoy as we needed rest. It would be a good idea to state exactly how long it will take for visitors to complete each activity. I found the drives were too long and boring. Our guide was focused on driving and we didn’t have much time to actually enjoy the beauty of the country. Our guide didn’t tell us much throughout the journey, we had to ask lots of questions to have him talk. He was on phone most of the time or concentrating on driving. Many sites was very briefly visited because of lack of time. It would be better if there was a separate driver so the tour guide can concentrate on giving a good guide. Another downfall was we were requested to give extra tips after paying so much for the trip. If we already pay for the trip, we shouldn’t be paying extras, whether it’s entry fees or tips. It was confusing what things are included in the itinerary but no entry fees included. If these are additional activities, they shouldn’t be written as part of itinerary. When we look at the itinerary, we see that there are so many activities but in fact you need to pay extra for most activities. Also more time should be spent at certain places than others. Travelling every single day is very tiresome. I would recommend more time to be spent in Colombo and Galle area so we not rushing. Overall I would say it’s pretty expensive trip and the Sri Lanka part was not as good as highlighted. The Maldives part is much better organised. The hotel had most activities and you could choose whatever you want. I recommend the organisers relook at the Sri Lanka part of this tour. Not worth paying so much when it’s driving most of the time. This needs to be clearly written in the original tour description. We only found out about this in our itinerary which was released only 2 weeks before our trip.

Had an amazing trip and was able to see so much in six days with a full itinerary. My guide Nimantha was amazing, as a female solo traveler, he made me feel very safe and we had some good laughs and some karaoke time on our trips. He also went out of his way to give me all the great and special experiences on this trip. Our tour operator BH Lanka Tours was very professional and accommodating to make sure I received the best trip possible with the most positive and enjoyable experiences. Very well planned six full days of sightseeing. The people I interacted with were all extremely friendly and the staff at the hotels were very kind and helpful and provided excellent service.

    • Here is an indication for which countries you might need a visa. Please contact the local embassy for help applying for visas to these places.
