Cairo to Bahariya Oasis
Head out early from Cairo in a private air-conditioned vehicle toward Bahariya Oasis, where you'll spend the day exploring Egypt's Western Desert. Start by walking through the palm groves and checking out the ancient springs that have sustained this area for centuries. The Valley of the Golden Mummies comes next, an archaeological site with thousands of mummified remains dating back to the Greco-Roman period. After that, you'll drive to Black Village to see the volcanic rock formations that give the area its distinctive character. Around midday, stop in El Hez Village to experience how people live traditionally in the desert and grab lunch. Later, head to Crystal Mountain where the ground sparkles with natural quartz crystals embedded in the rock. The Agabat Area shows off dramatic limestone cliffs and geological formations before finishing at the White Desert, where massive chalk rock formations create an otherworldly landscape. Return to Cairo by sunset after a full day of contrasting desert terrain.
