Tanzania Tours & Trips
Think about Arusha National Park, where you can see wild animals eating next to you, or Tarangire, where you can see baobab trees and groups of elephants. You might wander through the misty Ngorongoro Forest, or perhaps visit Lake Eyasi and the Hadzabe people. They're among the final tribes in Africa who still rely on hunting and gathering for sustenance. Watch in awe as the amazing Great Wildebeest Migration thunders across the Serengeti.

My husband and I recently went on from a fantastic 5 days tour to Tanzania for our honeymoon. We were very extremely wowed by our hosts World Adventure Tours who organized a very memorable tour to Lake Manyara, Seregeti and Ngorongoro Crater in what I believe are some of the best lodges in Tanzania and organized adventurous game drives in the 3 parks. Peter our safari driver was very good, he drove well and knew the parks very well such that he found wild game with no difficulties. He is a charming individual and kept us captivated with his narrations about the parks, animals, trees, Tanzania culture and general stuff. He was great company and enriched our safari a lot. When we arrived we were booked in the exquisite Springlands Hotel in Moshi for our first night, then Highway Coffee Lodge in Karatu, In Serengeti we stayed for a day at Serengeti Wild Camp and the next 2 days at the Ikoma Wild Camp which were all so amazing. They are set in the bush allowing for maximum experience of the wild and nature. The food was delicious and prepared fresh with options for buffet or ordering for a specific meal. I was very touched by the kind gesture where in all the lodges we got a bottle of wine because we were on a honeymoon. It was sad to let Peter go when we flew back to Arusha from Kogatende airstrip because he had been an excellent guide who taught us a lot about Tanzania. For those thinking of going on a Tanzania Safari book this company and you will not be dissapointed. They have very good links with the lodges and you will get to sleep in nice lodges for a bargain.

Wow wow wow. What an experience. Summited on Friday 4th August. The 5 day Machame route was one tough beast to conquer especially as none in our group had any climbing at altitude experience. However we made it but that was only possible due to the dedication of the team of guides and porters that put everything into getting you to the top. Muntari, Frankie, Swalehe, and the rest of the team - you were incredible and I miss you already. Book with these guys. You'll have a life changing experience.

We returned from the safari a couple of days ago and are extremely happy with how everything turned out. The trip was well planned starting in Tarangire, Serengeti and finishing off in glorious Ngorongoro. Sadique our wonderful guide had answers to all questions about the animals, culture and everything about Tanzania. He spared no effort so that we got to see as many animals as possible, and patient to let us enjoy the views and take as many photos as we wanted. His driving skills were impressive, expertly maneuvering the off roader in muddy trails. Accommodations at Ngorongoro Wildcamp, Serengeti Safari Lodge and Serengeti Wildebeest Camp were perfect. They were all great resting spots during the trip. I got a good impression about World Adventure Tours during the planning phase with the timely and professional responses from Moses. This excellence has continued through the actual trip and I am happy to recommend them to all my family and friends.

Best tour companies for Tanzania tours
Several tour companies run solid Kilimanjaro climbs and Serengeti safaris, each with their own strengths. Our travelers consistently give high marks to G Adventures, particularly noting guides like Gerald Godfrey who really know their routes and terrain. The Lemosho route through World Adventure Tours gets lots of positive feedback - their guide Brighton makes a real difference, and you get to stay at nice spots like Springlands Hotel between trek days. If you're watching your budget, Almighty Kilimanjaro tends to run more affordable trips - their guide Justice leads groups up the Machame route with careful attention to each climber's pace and needs. The summit views are especially good at sunrise when the weather cooperates. We've had mixed feedback about Intrepid's Kilimanjaro programs - while the actual climbs go well, a few of our customers mentioned issues with airport pickups not arriving as scheduled. For Serengeti safaris, OneSeed Expeditions runs excellent private tours - their guide Saleh knows exactly where to spot wildlife, and the Ang'ata bush camps provide comfortable beds after long days exploring the plains. I should mention that guide availability can vary by season, so while we've had great experiences with the specific guides named here, you might work with different but equally qualified leaders depending on when you travel.
Best places to start your Tanzania tour
Most Tanzania trips start from either Arusha or Moshi, with 34 and 33 departures each week, and they're perfect jumping-off points for safaris and Kilimanjaro climbs. Another 27 tours begin at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Our booking patterns show you should lock in your plans about 132 days ahead - that's roughly 4.5 months - to get the dates and places you want. This really matters during peak wildlife seasons when the nicest lodges fill up fast. Our travelers say they're impressed by the accommodation and food quality, even in remote spots; you get comfort while staying right in the middle of the action. For Kilimanjaro, we suggest taking at least 6 days to climb so your body can adjust properly. Many people pair their mountain trek with a few days watching elephants in Tarangire National Park or seeing flamingos paint the sky pink at Lake Manyara in the late afternoon light.

Best time to visit Tanzania
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Nature puts on quite a show in Tanzania's winter months from December through March - it's prime time to see wildebeest calving in the southern Serengeti. Our 7-8 day safaris take you right where thousands of calves take their first wobbly steps, often just minutes after being born. The action gets intense with predators following the herds closely. We've designed routes combining Lake Manyara's unique wildlife with extended time in Ndutu, where our guides know exactly which spots give you the best views of new calves. Our travelers love staying in mobile camps that put them in the middle of everything - they often tell us how the resident lions and cheetahs become much more active during this season.

- Spring 2026
The long rains start in spring, but this actually creates ideal conditions for both Kilimanjaro climbs and wildlife viewing. Our 8-day Lemosho Route trek makes good use of the clear morning skies, while afternoon cloud cover gives nice shade during the steeper parts. Safari tours during these months spend extra time in Ngorongoro Crater where animals gather near permanent water and the grass stays green. Our guides are particularly good at finding big cats this time of year - they know which kopjes (rock outcrops) the lions use to stay dry and also where to spot leopards lounging in fever trees along the drainage lines.

- Summer 2026
Summer is all about the northern Serengeti where our 6-7 day safaris put you in perfect spots to watch the dramatic river crossings. You'll spend plenty of time at key points along the Mara River watching massive wildebeest and zebra herds make their risky dash through crocodile-filled waters. Our clients often mention how the guides seem to know exactly when and where crossings will happen, getting them in position just before the action starts. Many routes combine this with time in Tarangire National Park where big elephant herds gather along the river. It's also a popular time for Kilimanjaro climbs, with the Machame Route offering good conditions and high success rates for reaching the summit.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall gives you perfect conditions to combine Kilimanjaro climbs with wildlife viewing. Many travelers pick the Marangu Route since the mountain huts provide good shelter during occasional autumn storms. Our clients regularly tell us how much they value our guides' timing - starting at midnight for the summit push gets you to the top right as the sun rises over the crater rim. Safari-goers get the bonus of smaller crowds while still seeing plenty of action as animals cluster around the shrinking water sources. Many fall trips include stops at local villages where you can try traditional crafts and share meals with community members.

What Cultural Experiences Can You Have in Tanzania?
Want to really experience Tanzanian culture? You can get immersed in Maasai life by visiting their traditional bomas which are these amazing homesteads near Ngorongoro or Tarangire. The traditional dances are incredible and you'll learn about their nomadic lifestyle plus maybe try making some beads yourself. There's this great initiative called the Clean Cookstove Project that G Adventures supports where you can see how sustainable tourism actually helps Maasai communities. Over in Mto wa Mbu village near Lake Manyara you can experience Chagga culture try some local banana beer visit farms and browse these wonderful markets full of handmade crafts.
What Are Tanzania's Main Natural Areas and How Do You Get There?
Tanzania's got these incredible national parks scattered across the country. The Serengeti is probably the most famous and you've got to see the Great Migration - you can drive there or catch a light aircraft which is pretty exciting. Then there's Ngorongoro Crater it's this amazing ecosystem where you descend in 4x4s to spot wildlife including black rhinos. Tarangire's brilliant for elephants and Lake Manyara's got these fascinating tree-climbing lions. Most people get around using safari operators with specialized 4x4s they're perfect really with sliding windows and pop-up roofs so you can get the best views of the wildlife.
How Do You Get Around Tanzania?
Getting around Tanzania's pretty straightforward really. In towns you've got dala dalas these local minibuses that zip around on set routes though the schedules can be a bit flexible. For longer trips there are regular buses but when it comes to safaris you'll want to go with tour operators who've got proper 4x4s. The drives can be long but that's part of the adventure! Some people prefer flying especially for safaris it saves time and there's this popular Zanzibar Express that gets you quickly from Arusha to Zanzibar.
