Where to start? It honesty felt like we were there for weeks with how much we did and saw. As a previous One Life customer, I was lucky enough to be part of one of their first test groups on this new tour and the guys have totally nailed it again! I loved the fact that we saw the famous stuff in Bali, but also places that few people have hear about like Pemuteran. Menjagan island was amazing, but Bromo really took the cake. It was like being on another planet. Java is so different to Bali and I really appreciated being able to experience such different areas and cultures of Indonesia in such a short time. The surf camp at Red Island was amazing! The guys there were true professionals and made sure everyone got to stand up on a wave at least once! Transportation was good and accommodation was really nice. The hotel at Bromo was a little basic but had a crazy view of the volcano from the deck! Massive shoutout to Joe who was an awesome guide with an indepth knowledge of Indonesia

The whole experience was great start to finish. Sam was an awesome tour guide who had loads of helpful local knowledge, couldn’t do enough for you. Nusa Lembongan was the absolute highlight, untouched and beautiful , not to mention the Manta Rays. Would recommend the tour to anyone wanting to pack in as much as possible in 10 days. Great value for money!

This was my first tour and it’s instantly become my favorite experience I’ve had got to see a lot things in Bali, the beautiful Gili Islands and Nusa Island! I cannot fault any aspect of the tour and would recommend to anyone. Kadek was our group leader and even from before the tour started, during and after it had finished, he was helpful, communicative and knowledgeable about the destination. During the tour he was very easy to get along with and it felt that he made it easy for every personality type to fit in and have an enjoyable experience even in this COVID time. We’ll be planning our next tour again soon!

Best tour companies for Indonesia tours
Balintro really shines for first-time Bali visitors, with most of our travelers praising how smoothly everything runs from start to finish. Their guide Phil gets mentioned constantly in feedback for making complex cultural sites come alive and handling all the little details that could trip up solo travelers. The accommodations are a nice step up from typical backpacker spots - you get proper hotels rather than basic hostels. Just keep in mind that September tends to draw bigger crowds; we've seen groups of 20+ during peak season. If you prefer a more close-knit feel, try booking in shoulder months instead. For something a bit different, TruTravels takes you deeper into daily Balinese life. Their guide Yosia knows exactly which local families offer the best cooking classes, showing you how to make proper sambal in actual Balinese kitchens, not tourist cooking schools. You'll visit temples that don't show up in guidebooks and actually get to chat with local priests instead of just snapping photos. It's especially good if you want to understand the culture rather than just see the main sites. Both companies deliver solid experiences - it really comes down to whether you want that well-oiled intro to Bali or prefer digging into local life beyond the usual tourist spots.
Best places to start your Indonesia tour
Most Indonesia journeys kick off from Denpasar, which launched 31 different tours last year alone. Bali, Ubud, Canggu and also Jakarta serve as other convenient starting points to explore the islands. Looking at our booking patterns, aim to lock in your dates about 98 days ahead - that's roughly 3 months, especially important during the popular dry season months. This timing helps match you with our most experienced local guides who really bring Indonesian life into focus. They know the hidden spots and share personal stories that make temples, traditions and local life come alive. After helping hundreds of travelers plan their trips, we've found 10-14 days hits the sweet spot - enough time to see the highlights while keeping a pace that mixes active days with downtime to relax and soak it all in.

Winter tours really shine around Nusa Penida, where the water visibility makes snorkeling at Crystal Bay quite special - you'll spot sea turtles and colorful fish darting through healthy coral formations. We schedule visits to Diamond Beach and Angel's Billabong early, before the crowds arrive. The cultural side includes stops at Goa Giri Putri Temple, traditional villages and also cooking workshops at Samsara Living Museum, where local cooks show you the real secrets of Balinese cooking away from tourist spots.

Tours running 9-12 days include time on the Gili Islands where you'll spot wild dolphins from local boats and bike around the car-free islands between quiet beaches. Programs running 9-14 days let you cook in open-air kitchens, learn traditional basket weaving from village families and see how Luwak coffee goes from bean to cup. Groups often bond over shared experiences like early morning volcano hikes, manta ray snorkeling near Nusa Lembongan and also surf lessons. Our guides plan activities around the heat, making the most of cooler mornings and late afternoons.

Fall weather works perfectly for mixing active experiences with cultural visits. Popular 10-12 day trips combine Mount Batur hiking and waterfall discoveries with time in traditional villages and ancient temples. Days might start with rice field yoga, move to craft workshops with local artists and finish with surf lessons from experienced local teachers. The water around the Gili Islands is particularly clear for snorkeling with sea turtles, and you can watch the sun set from traditional boats and also quiet beach spots.
