    Meals
    Breakfast
  2. Day 2

    Moshi to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, you're driving about 5 hours through the Shira plateau to reach Londorosi Park Gate, where there's a good chance to see big game. From there, you'll hike 7 km to Mti Mkubwa camp at 2,780 m, which takes around 5 hours. You'll set up camp and have dinner once you arrive.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Hike to Mti Mkubwa camp
    Landmarks/POIs
    Mount Kilimanjaro
  3. Day 3

    Mti Mkubwa to Shira Camp

You'll start with breakfast, then hike 5 km from Mti Mkubwa to Shira camp at a relaxed pace, taking about 4 to 5 hours to help your body acclimatize. The west face of Kibo volcano will be visible the whole way. After lunch and setting up camp, you can rest or take a shorter day hike through the lower moorland if you're feeling good.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Hike from Mti Mkubwa to Shira camp
    • Optional day hike through lower moorland
    Landmarks/POIs
    Kibo
  4. Day 4

Shira Camp to Shira Camp 2

Breakfast first, then you'll break camp and head out for a 5 km hike to Shira Camp 2, which takes around 5 to 6 hours. This shorter day gives your body more time to adjust to the altitude. You'll have views to enjoy and plenty of time to rest once you reach the higher elevation.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Hike to Shira Camp 2
  5. Day 5

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

You're hiking 11 km through semi-desert and rocky terrain to reach Lava Tower at 4,630 m, about 5 hours in. After lunch, the rocky scree path gets tougher and some people start feeling altitude effects here. You'll descend 680 m over 2 hours down to Barranco camp in a valley with the Great Barranco Wall towering above. The sunset from here is something to photograph before dinner and sleep.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch served in designated area before ascending Lava Tower), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Hike to Lava Tower
    • Descent to Barranco camp
    Landmarks/POIs

    Western Breach
    Great Barranco Wall
  6. Day 6

    Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

You'll arrive at Barafu Camp on a narrow, exposed ridge with strong winds. Spend time getting familiar with the area before dark so you don't slip. The summit is still 1,345 m above. Pack all your gear including ski sticks, warm clothes, headlamp, spare batteries, and water in a thermal flask so it doesn't freeze. Rest from about 19:00 for roughly 5 hours before the summit push begins.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Hike to Barafu Camp
    • Summit attempt preparation
  7. Day 7

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

You're up around 23:30 for tea and biscuits, then start the night ascent heading northwest through heavy scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim, a 6-hour walk that's the hardest part for most people. At Stella Point (5,685 m), you'll rest briefly and hopefully catch the sunrise. From there, it's about 2 more hours through snow to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After celebrating at the summit, you descend 3 hours back to Barafu, grab your remaining gear, then hike down to Mweka Camp for dinner. Total time hiking is over 15 hours.

    Meals
Breakfast (Tea and biscuits before summit attempt), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Summit ascent from Barafu to Uhuru Peak via Stella Point
    • Descent to Mweka Camp

After breakfast, you're hiking 10 km from Mweka Camp down to Mweka Gate in about 4 to 5 hours, then continuing with roughly 1 hour through muddy terrain to Mweka village. You'll drive to Springlands Hotel for a hot lunch and a proper shower. Spend the night here and give tips to your guide. You'll get either a green or gold summit certificate depending on whether you reached Stella Point or Uhuru Peak.

We booked an 8-day Kilimanjaro hike via the Lemosho with Zara Tours and it was all perfect. Communication was quick with Patrick, and he helped us in choosing the route and level of luxury that was suitable for us. The trek was very well organized, and they made sure we had the right equipment and enough layers to keep us warm. Our guides Juma and Samuel were excellent and did an amazing job of taking care of us. They kept a comfortable pace and let us gradually acclimatize to the altitude. The porters who did all the heavy lifting were properly equipped and very friendly. Food was plentiful for everyone with lots of tea and warm soup to start every meal. I highly recommend Zara Tours as an ideal local company for Kilimanjaro trekking.

My husband and I had the most incredible adventure this summer. We both traveled to Tanzania and successfully reached the summit with Zara Tanzania Adventures. I cannot say enough about our guides Yesse and Baraka, who were absolutely amazing as they cared for and guided us through the Lemosho trail. We had the best of everything, starting with the three hearty meals that were freshly prepared. Our porters were the real heroes of the trek. They managed all the heavy lifting and ensured that the camps were set up with all the necessary amenities. I highly recommend using Zara Tanzania Adventures if you are thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro.

We completed the Kilimanjaro climb in 8 days via the Lemosho route with Zara Tanzania Adventures. The team consisted of guides, porters, and a cook, led by Senior Guide Yesse, with assistance from Simon and Juma for our group of five, along with 17 porters including cook Stefan. Our climbing party was quite large, requiring ample supplies and equipment to sustain us during the 8 days on the mountain. The crew worked tirelessly to provide good conditions with excellent tents, incredibly delicious food, ample water for washing, hot water bottles, plenty of hydration, and a friendly atmosphere; we even had a portable private toilet. The weather was favorable, and we enjoyed stunning views from the mountain. We all reached the summit thanks to the tremendous support we received from the crew; it would not have been possible without them.

We had an unforgettable trip with Zara Tours during the Kilimanjaro trek. I appreciate the effort and experience that went into organizing such a flawless trip. We had great tents that kept us dry and comfy sleeping bags. The porters did well in selecting nice flat ground to pitch the tents so that we slept very well despite the cold and rain. The team was very helpful and made sure that we were in perfect health, well fed and strong to tackle the mountain. The trek would not have been possible without the support from the climbing crew. We owe our successful summit to them. They are the real heroes!

    • Zara Tours (Zara Tanzania Adventures)OperatorWritten January 2025

Early March can be lovely, but as the month progresses, the rains can start to set in, making for muddy trails, cloudy skies, and poor visibility. In late March and late May, you can get lucky with some dry weather, but it's a bit hit or miss. April to early May are the long rains, and not suitable for climbing.
