10 Days in Sicily, incl. Palermo and Mount Etna
A rich Sicilian tapestry unfolds across 16 destinations in 10 days, from Palermo's Arab-Norman sites to Agrigento's Valley of Temples. Four-star accommodations at Mediterraneo Palace, 9 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and expert-guided tours of UNESCO World Heritage sites create an immersive experience.
- Days 1-2
Palermo & Monreale
Begin your journey in Palermo, the bustling capital of Sicily. Visit Monreale early on day 2 before 8:30 AM to avoid the crowds. The Norman Cathedral and Cloister here are spectacular. Back in Palermo, visit the Arab-Norman architecture at Cappella Palatina and the Martorana Church. Book your hotel near Teatro Massimo in the historic center. You'll appreciate being able to walk to most attractions.
- Days 3-5
Cefalù to Catania & Mount Etna
Start with a visit to Cefalù's medieval Norman cathedral. Next, head to Catania where black-and-white baroque buildings made from local lava stone line the streets. Visit the fish market ("pescheria") around 7 AM when it's most active and authentic. For Mount Etna (3,350m), pack layers and good walking shoes for the rocky volcanic terrain. The morning offers the clearest views at Crateri Silvestri. Visit Taormina's Greek theatre in the late afternoon for perfect photos with Etna in the background.
- Days 6-7
Syracuse, Noto & Ragusa
- Days 8-9
Agrigento to Western Sicily
- Day 10
Departure from Palermo
10 Day Sicily Itinerary, incl. Catania and Taormina
Sicily's diversity shines across 16 destinations in 10 days, from Catania's historic fish market to Taormina's Greco-Roman theatre. Six UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Mount Etna and Valley of Temples, showcase natural and cultural riches. Four-star comfort at hotels like Baia Di Ulisse Wellness & Spa includes daily breakfast and 8 local meals.
- Days 1-2
Catania & Syracuse
Plan to arrive in Catania before noon to make the most of your first day. The historic center is easy to walk around but summer gets very hot so plan your walks for early morning or late afternoon. On day two take the 1-hour bus to Syracuse's Archaeological Park of Neapolis. "The Greek theater's acoustics are incredible—you can hear a whisper from the top row," according to one visitor. Spend your afternoon in Ortigia island when the light makes the Duomo look its best.
- Days 3-4
Ragusa, Modica & Agrigento
The baroque towns need some planning. Bring good shoes with grip for Ragusa's steep streets, especially in the narrow lanes of Ragusa Ibla. Visit Modica's chocolate shops in late afternoon when there are fewer tourists. See the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina first thing to avoid the midday heat. The Valley of Temples in Agrigento is best in early morning or late afternoon light.
- Days 5-6
Palermo & Cefalù
- Days 7-8
Mount Etna & Taormina
Bring layers for Mount Etna. The summit can be 20°F cooler than the base. Book cable car tickets ahead in peak season. Visit Taormina's Greco-Roman theater right when it opens at 9 AM or just before closing to avoid crowds. The main street gets very busy with cruise ship visitors from 11 AM to 4 PM.
- Days 9-10
Castelmola & Savoca
What people love about 10-day Sicily tours
- Sensational Sicily
Tour was excellent, hotels very good but communication could improve. Some of my group were on a WhatsApp connection and were receiving communication but not me. Also I had to ask about where to meet etc on first night. I also wasn’t told that my last day would be a private tour and to meet the guide at 9.00 am. Luckily she persevered in searching for me and I ended up having a fantastic day.
- Sicilian Secrets - Tour of Sicily 10 days from Palermo
I felt it was good value for money. The group was larger than l thought it would be with 34 people with 3 different languages. The guides did a great job but it became a bit drawn out. The hotels were good and we certainly saw a great deal of Sicily
- New Tour of Sicily from Palermo 10 Days
The hotels were great. The evening meals were sometimes disappointing. The buses were ,immaculate and comfortable. Our guide was a delight(Placido). His knowledge of Sicily and his love of his country made him a good guide. His sense of humour made his information much more compatible and interesting. The trip, was good value. I did think some of the days were pretty long and I would have enjoyed more free time but I would not have wanted to miss anything of what we saw. Maybe a longer more leisurely tour?
