Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Imlil to Tachdirth

You'll start your trek from Imlil early morning, hiking east for about 1 hour 45 minutes to Tizi n'Tamaterte pass at 2279m/7475ft. The trail takes you through barley fields and orchards with walnuts, apples, and cherries, then into pine and juniper woods as you climb. Once at the pass, you get views of the Imlil and Imnane valleys with Berber villages dotting the slopes. From there, walk along the upper valley for roughly another hour to reach Ouanskra and Amagdoul villages where you'll have a field picnic. The afternoon involves a 2 hour hike up through the valley to Tachdirth at 2291m/7516ft, the oldest Berber settlement in the Toubkal massif. You'll spend the night in a gite d'étape here.

The first 2.5 hours take you up to Tizi n'Tachdirth pass at 3200m/10499ft, where you'll see panoramic views of Jbel Aksoual and Bouignouane peaks rising to 3842m/12605ft and 3882m/12736ft, plus the Ourika valley spreading below. After crossing the pass, you'll hike north-east for about 2 hours down to Iaabbassen village at 2030m/6660ft for a field picnic by a spring. In the afternoon, take a 2 hour hike northeast down the valley to the old village of Timichi with its terraced homes and ancient nut trees. You'll have dinner and sleep in a Berber family home.

Recently completed the 3 day Atlas tour. We initially booked he Setti Fatma tour, however after speaking to the guide on the first day we decided to amend the route to complete the 3 valleys instead of Setti Fatma (Possibly because we rocked up in trainers and zara clothes lol) The trek was excellent. It was harder than we expected as the initial description doesnt say what level of fitness you need to complete the trek. Me and my partner are both fit and in our early 30s but found parts of the trek challenging. We didnt mind this as we both wanted something that would test us. Bit just a heads up incase you think it is going to be a stroll, which it isn't. I would say you need quote a good level of fitness. Both Sabir the guide and Mohammed the cook were lovely people and a pleasure to spend time with. Sabir would answer any questions we had and try to explain as much as possible. He trekked at a pace that was achievable to us. The food cooked by Mohammad was amazing and some of the best we tasted while in Morocco. Big portions but also amazing quality food. Accomodation was quite basic but we didnt mind this as we were up in the mountains staying in local villages which was all part of the experience. I wpuld definately recommend this trip and would definately recommend the amazing Sabir and Mohammad.
