- NMniall· October 22nd, 2016Just finished 26 day tour (Simba Sounds) with Absolute Africa. I'm in my fifties and my son is 18 and we both agree that this holiday was the best ever. Had such a wonderful time from the Mara, Gorillas and the Serengeti. The Tour leader Derek was outstanding, organised and always available. The group was a mix of ages and nationalities and we all got along and mucked in. We have been on a previous overland in Africa with a different company but this tour blew it away. Saw all the Big Five and more. Special mention for our fantastic driver David who always had a smile for everyone and is one of life's gentlemen. Can't recommend this tour highly enough.Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you so much for your great review Niall. We are happy to hear that both you and your son had such a good time and have passed on your comments to Derek and David. Do get back in touch if you are looking to get back to Africa in the future!Trip date: September 2016
- AGAshley· August 23rd, 2016I recently finished a two month trip in Africa, and it was the most rewarding and inspiring journey I have had the opportunity to take. I began my trip on the Simba Sounds route, travelling from Kenya through to Uganda, Rwanda, and finally Tanzania. This was my first solo travel, and first time in Africa. From the moment I booked the trip, the office was in constant contact to answer any of my questions, and always responded within the day. The trip itself was an amazing experience. From the game drives in the Masai Mara, to trekking gorillas in Uganda, to rafting the Nile, there was a wide range of activities for everyone. Travelling on the big yellow truck affectionately named 'Shaggy' gave time for each of us travellers to get to know each other, as did camping and cooking together. The trip was made even more memorable by the enthusiastic crew travelling with us. The driver, Patrick, skilfully navigated the bumpy - and sometimes terrifyingly narrow - roads, getting us to each destination safe and sound. The guide, Joe, always had a smile on his face and really brought the group together. Each night he told us stories of the places we were visiting, so not only did we experience the countries first hand, but had the chance to learn more about its unique history. Following the 26 day tour, I journeyed on to climb Mt Kilimanjaro booked through Absolute Africa. Sampson was extremely helpful in making sure we were well prepared to begin our hike, and by following his 'golden rules of the mountain' all five climbers in our group made it safely to the summit. My experience travelling with Absolute Africa was so wonderful, that instead of backpacking for the last four weeks of my time in Africa, I flew to meet up with the group to travel in Zambia and Zimbabwe. Natasja in the office was extremely helpful and accommodating, finding the best places for me to join and providing amazing support the whole time. I would highly recommend Absolute Africa to anyone looking to travel overland in Africa, it truly is the experience of a lifetime!Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you for your comments Ashley. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your trip with Joe and Patrick so much, as well as reaching the summit of Africa's highest mountain! We look forward to welcoming you back if you ever fancy coming back to explore... Show moreTrip date: June 2016
- Dave· January 3rd, 2016Absolute Africa is absolutely the best!! I've toured with more expensive companies and they were good. But this trip was outstanding. first, Absolute Africa seems to be he only company doing the full loop around lake Victoria. That sold me. But what really put this trip over the top - aside from seeing gorillas, lions, cheetahs, chimps, leopards, elephants, hippos, Cape buffalo, etc. - was the absolutely first-rate service we got rom our guide Troy and our driver Patrick. They went above and beyond to make sure we were well fed, well taken care of, and had a blast!! I recommend this trip and any part of it to everyone and I will travel with Absolute Africa again when I come back.Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you for your comments - we look forward to welcoming you back to Africa on your next trip!Trip date: December 2015

- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written January 2025
When travelling to Africa, you may be exposed to diseases like malaria and waterborne parasites. We recommend consulting a travel medical clinic for personalized advice. Get necessary immunizations about 6 weeks before departure. Start anti-malarial medication before the trip. Yellow Fever vaccination may be required for some country borders. Our crew is experienced and trained in first aid, and our trucks are equipped with medical kits. In case of illness, we ensure quick medical facility access.

Asked on March 12th, 2023I'm confused about the additional "local payment" - what does that mean? Is that additional money we have to pay? If so, why is it not included in the total tour price? How does payment then work? Do you need to pay that money in country on arrival or can it be paid upfront?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written March 2023
The local payment is part of the total tour payment and is payable on day 1 in USD cash direct to your tour leader. Overland companies have always had local payments on their tours as a way to get USD directly on the continent as otherwise USD can be expensive and difficult to get out in Africa. In this way, with customers bringing some of their payment in USD cash we can pass savings onto the customer by keeping our prices down.
