What our customers ask about this tour

Asked on February 19th, 2025Is there a single person supplement? Are the tents for the camping option comfortable? Is there much risk of contact with snakes if I go with the camping option? Can visa's be obtained at the borders of the countries we are entering?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2025
No single supplements applicable. Solo travellers will share with a fellow solo passenger of the same gender. Tents have built in mosquito nets. Campsites are high foot traffic areas so snakes rarely appear. UK Passport holders need Visa Upon Arrival for Namibia and usually a day pass for Zimbabwe.
- E
Evelyn
Traveler•Written February 2025Can you clarify the age ranges for this tour? One range shows 18 - 39, the other shows 18 - 75. I am 61, so want to be sure I am within the age range.
- E
Evelyn
Traveler•Written February 2025Is there a local payment to be given to the guide at the start of the tour? And if so, how much?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2025
The age range is generally 18 - 75. We broadened the upper limit after the pandemic. At 61, you are certainly within range. Local 'Adventure Pass' is USD 490, which includes visits to Matobo National Park, Chobe NP and the Okavango excursion.

Evelyn
Traveler•Written February 2025In October, how hot does it get in the countries getting visited? Does the accommodation (even though it's tents) have fans?
- E
Evelyn
Traveler•Written February 2025Are the tents already assembled before arrival at camp sites or do we assemble tents upon arrival? Do tents have a bed frame? Do they have electricity supply for fans? How cool are the nights? Is the bus comfortable? Can we leave things in the bus? How big a problem are mosquitos in October?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2025
Tents are pitched by passengers, normally two to a tent. We provide foam mattresses on ground sheets. Bring sleeping bag and pillow. We travel in a converted lorry with seating for 24 (max 18). Each passenger has a locker. October is very warm in central/southern Africa. Mosquitoes are a hazard, especially at dusk. Recommend closed footwear, covering up, and anti-malaria tablets.
- E
Evelyn
Traveler•Written February 2025Does the converted lorry have windows that can open? And escape doors? Does it pass safety standards?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2025
Vehicles have passenger cabin with safety belts, windows, lockers, fridge freezer. We have insurance and have been operating tours in Africa since the late 1990s.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2025
In October, daytime highs can be well over 30 celsius, sometimes closer to 40.

Asked on November 12th, 2024I am really interested in this tour for next year. The age mentions that 18-75 as ideal. But at the bottom question section, it is says "What is the age range requirement of this tour? This tour is catered for 18-39 as the tour is marketed for the younger cliental. The tour operator does adhere to strict age restrictions." I am 50 years old, and hoping to be able to join this tour. Which information is right?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2024
You would be very welcome.. our ages range is from 18 to 75 but typical is between late 20s and late 50s/ early 60s..

Traveler•Written November 2024What is the process of the payment? In the past with other companies through this website, I paid down payment of small portion of the tour fee in the first stage to save a seat. Then there are dead line to pay the rest 2-3 months before the tour starts. What the payment plan for your company?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2024
For confirmation we ask for a non-refundable deposit of GBP150 / AUD250 / CAD300 / NZD300 / ZAR2000 / EUR200 / USD300. The balance is then due 42 days before departure.

Traveler•Written January 2025What kind of things or places the traveller usually visit or do in Johannesburg and Pretoria? I know that the apartheit musium, or Nelson Mandera is the famous in these cities? I am thinking to spend 2-3 days here before the tour starts... is that enough time?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written January 2025
2-3 days is ample time for Johannesburg/ Prertoria before the tour... Most people will probably agree that Cape Town has more for the visitor to see and do.

Asked on October 28th, 2024I am interested in staying in the hotel in Pretoria the night before the tour begins. I would like to take a shuttle or courtesy bus from Johannasburg Airport to the hotel on the day before.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written October 2024
We can book accommodation before the tour at the Court Classique Hotel for AUD 135/night bed & breakfast; an airport transfer from Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo International is AUD 120 one way (approx 1 hr transit time). There is an alternative train / taxi service which is lower costed but not able to be booked in advance.

Asked on October 22nd, 2022Can you please explain what is Adventure Pass? Is it inculded in the price? If not, how much it cost? Are there any additional costs (fees for National Parks etc.)? Can you please share with me some photos of your cars/trucks?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written October 2022
Every adventure tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour. The Adventure Pass for the tour is USD 520 per person. This covers selected park entries, activities and excursions. Optional Activities like Skydiving, Quad Biking are available along the way.

Asked on April 23rd, 2022I was wondering about the pre-paid pass requirement on this tour. Tour Radar advertises the cost of the travel pass as $860 paid on the first day, however on the Acacia website it is $520USD.
- L
Lynda
Traveler•Written April 2022Will the local payment be made in USD or my currency?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written April 2022
The Adventure Pass is quoted in US Dollars and, when paid to the tour leader must be paid in USD, but it can be pre-paid in your 'home' currency if you prefer.
- L
Lynda
Traveler•Written April 2022How many people are required for the tour on the 23rd to operate? When will you know if the tour will be cancelled?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written April 2022
A tour of this nature and duration needs a certain number to be safe and enjoyable for all. Generally we look at between 6 and 10. We try to make decisions on trips 6-8 weeks before departure.

- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2017
Every Acacia Overland tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour (or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour). This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income.
