This Victoria Falls / Chobe tour was an end-to-end incredible experience. The local tour partner did a phenomenal job, and is apparently known as one of the main operators in Victoria Falls - you will see their presence in branding all across town and even in the VFA airport. The itinerary was clear, the tour operator was responsive, and the staff were very hospitable. There is enough flexibility in the itinerary for a slew of additional optional activities in the region. We would highly recommend the local tour partner to others. As a side note - the tour we booked listed “camping OR chalet” as viable accommodations; we were assigned camping accommodations that seemed comfortable and clean, but we were still able to pay for an upgrade to chalet without hassle.

I had a wonderful time in Hwange! My tour guide Bothwell was fantastic and so kind. My accommodations at Gwango exceeded my expectations and my organizer Bronah was always available for any question I had. Finally, my driver Shakes was an expert navigator of the roads, in addition to being one the smartest people I’ve met. I was well looked after by Little Roz Tours and felt it was a great value. I appreciate their being able to accommodate me as a solo traveler!

Best places to start your Zimbabwe tour
Most Zimbabwe tours kick off from Victoria Falls - about 39 of our recent departures started right there. While some folks begin from Harare, Pretoria and also Livingstone, the Falls makes perfect sense as a starting point since it's close to many key sites. Book around 70 days ahead to get the dates and guides you want, especially for those popular Zambezi cruises. The Falls show their full power from February to May after the rains, though river cruises run all year. Many visitors combine their Falls experience with Hwange National Park nearby - head there July through October when elephants and other wildlife gather at the waterholes during dry season.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter brings excellent wildlife viewing in Zimbabwe, especially in Hwange National Park where big cats and elephants gather near waterholes during the dry season. A really good 6-day route combines Victoria Falls with guided walks in Matopos National Park, where you can spot both black and white rhinos in their UNESCO-recognized habitat. Many of our customers pick tours that blend activities - start with morning rhino tracking then spend afternoons exploring Great Zimbabwe ruins and also Bulawayo city tours. The mix of wildlife and ancient history makes winter trips particularly engaging.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall weather suits mixed-activity tours perfectly. Popular 5-day itineraries blend misty morning walks through Victoria Falls rainforest with Hwange game drives. Zambezi River sunset cruises are excellent this season - watch hippos, crocodiles and also elephants come down to drink. Our customers appreciate meeting new groups each day instead of staying with one fixed tour. Many also like having the choice to upgrade from camping to chalet accommodation. Travelers keep telling us great things about Afro Honeyguide Adventures, and their guides Fungayi and Innocent really stand out. These two know their stuff inside out, pay close attention to all the small details and are always ready to help. Our guests particularly love how the tours flow through Hwange and Chobe National Parks before wrapping up at Victoria Falls - it's a natural progression that just works. Little Roz Tours is hitting all the right notes too. Their guides Bothwell and Shakes have earned quite a reputation among our travelers, especially for their deep knowledge of Hwange and Victoria Falls. The way they plan everything takes the stress out of African safari travel, letting you focus on spotting wildlife and soaking in the landscapes. What makes both companies special is how they've figured out the perfect balance between wildlife viewing in the parks and time at Victoria Falls. When visitors write back to us, they often mention how smoothly everything runs - from pickup to drop-off and all the game drives in between.

When's the Best Time to Experience Zimbabwe's Wildlife?
Zimbabwe's wildlife viewing stays impressive year-round but each season brings something special. Winter from May to August is particularly fantastic - you'll get dry weather and all the animals gathering around waterholes, especially in Hwange National Park. It's perfect timing to spot the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino) as they congregate near the limited water sources. The crisp winter air and concentrated wildlife make those game drives extra rewarding.
What Unique Safari Experiences Can I Find Beyond Hwange?
You'll love Mana Pools National Park - it's a UNESCO site where you can actually get out and walk with expert guides for an up-close wildlife experience. Our guests rave about the walking safaris there, getting incredible elephant encounters on foot. The 5-Day Mana Pools Safari lets you immerse yourself with morning walks and evening drives across the plains. TourRadar traveler Fungayi took the Victoria Falls Hwange And Chobe tour and couldn't say enough about the guides - super knowledgeable, friendly and really made the experience special at both parks.
How Can I Combine Victoria Falls with a Safari Adventure?
You've got great options to experience both the Falls and amazing wildlife. Tour operators run fantastic combined trips that'll take you from the thundering Victoria Falls right into the heart of places like Hwange National Park. You can hop on game drives there and then cruise the Chobe River in Botswana to maximize your wildlife viewing. If you're watching your budget, check out the 5-Day Budget Tour Victoria Falls to Hwange - you'll get that iconic Falls sunset cruise plus game drives without breaking the bank.
What About Zimbabwe's Cultural Heritage?
There's so much more than just wildlife here. Great Zimbabwe reveals incredible ancient stone city ruins from the Shona civilization - it's a UNESCO site that'll blow your mind. Over at Matobo National Park you can explore fascinating rock art and historical spots, including Cecil John Rhodes' burial site. The 8-day nature tour through Botswana and Zimbabwe includes Great Zimbabwe and a guided walk through Bulawayo where you'll check out the Joshua Nkomo Statue and Railway Museum. It's a perfect blend of nature and culture.
