- WMWilliam· July 18th, 2022This was overall a really well run tour. Our guide Pilli and driver Kumu really put a lot of enthusiasm into the trip and made everyone happy everyday. This is a fast paced tour though with some long driving days - if you travel in winter expect some cold nights so pack a decent sleeping bag. Also winter means shorter days and longer nights, so some times we would be setting up camp in the dark and again departing before sunrise, but this wasnt much of an issue as the tents are good quality and after the first couple of goes you can have it done solo in mere minutes. Food quality on the tour was exceptional given the facilities available (cooking out of the back of a truck) All dietary requirements were met with ease and even after nearly 3 weeks on the road the variety just kept coming! The itinerary mentions having cash, however besides maybe 2 optional activities (wine tasting in SA and 1 game drive option) everything was able to be paid for by card without any surcharges. My only real gripe is with one of the camp sites (ZELDA) which was in utter state of disrepair and we had to ask twice for them to turn on the running water and gas to the showers (Which they only then did for the ladies block). The only other improvement I could suggest would be to stay in hostels in the larger towns like Windhoek and Livingston (like we did in Swakopmund) rather than the camp sites which are miles out of town.Show moreTrip date: June 2022

- KLKerin· December 6th, 2018We had an amazing trip! Being from South Africa, I was sceptical about how good a African safari would be as a big group. It turned out to exceed all expectations; from elephant visiting our tent window one night to swimming on the edge of Vic falls at Devil's Pools... Moyenda (our guide) and Masaai (our driver) were wonderful. They both went far beyond their duties, ensuring we got to see and feel the real African bushels and get to mingle with the locals and villages. Things you can't normally do when going to the big resorts.Show moreAcacia Adventure Holidays commented on this reviewHi Kerin, Thank you for your lovely feedback of your tour. What our customers ask about this tour

Trevor
Asked on June 19th, 2024what is the weather like in the night? What would be recommended for packing? Also another question is what does the adventure pass include?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written June 2024
Nighttime temperatures in Namibia and Botswana can fall below freezing. It is dry which is the major factor. A good time for gameviewing at Etosha in northern Namibia. Plan layers so you can remove jacket, sweater etc as the day warms up. A reasonable sleeping bag - buy the best you can afford because the better ones are warmer, lighter and more condens-able.

Traveler•Written June 2024Is there any place part way through the trip with laundry facilities? Also not sure if you can tell me this but of the people who have already booked for that time frame do you have a rough age range of who has already booked?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written June 2024
Most nights we are staying in campsites which have shower/ toilets and laundry. Currently we have between 6 and 10 people confirmed. It's a mix about equal men and women, most in their 30s/ 40s. One person is younger than that, in their 20s and 1 or two others who are a bit older.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written June 2024
Most nationalities require a visa for Zimbabwe but it is most easily obtained at the border (USD 30). Your passport needs to be valid in time for at least 6 months beyond the date that you fly out of Africa to return home, and to have 4-6 blank pages for entry/ exit stamps. No vaccinations is mandatory but it is strongly suggested to check what it recommended, including for malaria which is a risk for most of the areas visited on tour.

Asked on May 30th, 20241)Am I right that you have exact same tour for south to north, and north to south? 2) when would be the best season to enjoy whole route of this tour? 3) As camping tour, do I need more than a sleeping bag? Anything else? 4) what is the situation for accessing toilet or shower during this tour? 5) does this tour normally become full? 6) any preference for south route or north route?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written May 2024
1)The north and southbound tours are basically the same, the only difference is that the north offers a Cape Town Township tour. 2) Peak Season is usually the cooler months: May - August. However this tour runs all year round. 3) You will need a sleeping bag, pillow and towel. 4) Campsites will have communal bathroom facilities. 5) It is one of the more popular tour routes, and it does run quite often but we suggest booking sooner than later to avoid disappointment. 6) any preference for south route or north route? that is at your discretion.

Traveler•Written November 2024This tour mentions that ideal age is between 18-75. but the tour is people until 39 years old? I am 50 years old, so I cannot join this tour?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2024
The tour is open to ages 18-75 years. You can therefore join the tour.
- C
Christopher
Traveler•Written November 2024In the question section "what is the age range requirement is this tour?" Mentions that 18-39. I guess this is the mistake and this tour Does Not have this limited age regulation then?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2024
We used to have the limit of 18-39 years but this is no longer applicable. The tours are now open to ages 18-75 years. While the nature of this style of tour we do advise that one is of an easy-going and able mindset and able physically as well.

Asked on January 13th, 2024What is the best time of year to do this tour please?

Asked on November 30th, 2023What sort of accommodation do you use for camping, do I have to set up my tent by myself or not.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2023
On the camping tour, clients will share a 2-man canvas tent. Solo travellers will share with a fellow solo passengers of the same gender. Tours of this nature are participatory, meaning clients will have to get involved in setting up camp, prepping and cooking food, and cleaning. The team of two will have to erect and dismantle their shared tent accordingly. The Tour Leader will show the clients how to do it.

Traveler•Written December 2023Could you please let me know how much is the total cost, itinerary and inclusion. Do you book flights as well?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written December 2023
The discounted tour price for the tour is AUD 5465, less $1093 = Australian Dollars 4372. There is an additional Adventure Pass which includes excursions in the Okavango Delta and in Chobe National park of United States Dollars 490. In addition you should budget for visas (depends on your nationality) and health precautions (vaccinations) plus of course incidental spending along the way, perhaps $20/ day average. Unfortunately we do not book flights and so i am afraid I cannot help you with likely costs for those.

Asked on November 20th, 2017What is the Adventure Pass?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2017
Every Acacia Overland tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour (or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour). This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income.

Asked on November 22nd, 2016What is it like travelling on an Overland Tour?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2016
Travelling on an overland is great fun, but it can also be challenging! This is a participation tour and
your help will be needed in setting up the camp each night and assisting (usually on a rota basis) with
the various day to day campsite duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck and camp
tidy. But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to
know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the
greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.

Asked on November 22nd, 2016Is tipping customary?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2016
This is always a matter for your own individual discretion but as in many areas where tourism is an important contributor to the
economy, it has become customary to give a small gratuity to local staff, including your tour leader and driver, at the end of a
tour if services rendered have been to your satisfaction.
