Tara· October 7th, 2025Our trip started in Namibia, where the itinerary promised visits to the seals, sand dunes, Kamanjab, Windhoek, and four game drives in Etosha National Park. Unfortunately, the reality was quite different — we only had one game drive, and none of the other listed locations (seals, sand dunes, Kamanjab, or Windhoek) were visited. There was also an optional game drive offered for £80, but the timing (1:30–3:30 p.m.) was only disclosed after payment. This time of day is when wildlife tends to hide, so the experience was largely disappointing — had I known the schedule in advance, I wouldn’t have opted in. Overall, Namibia was a major disappointment compared to what was advertised. The tour improved dramatically once we crossed into Botswana. The experience in Chobe National Park was outstanding — one of the best safaris I’ve ever been on. Our guide, Rati, was excellent: knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about her work. The optional Delta flight was a highlight, offering incredible views. We chose the camping option, which turned out to be comfortable and well-organized. The tents were easy to set up and pack away, and the meals were tasty. I appreciated that vegetarian meals were provided for me throughout the trip. The tour concluded in Victoria Falls, where we arranged our own activities to finish off the journey. Overall, while the Namibia portion was disappointing, the Botswana section and our time at Victoria Falls more than made up for it. With a few itinerary adjustments and better communication, this could have been an excellent trip from start to finish.Show moreTrip date: September 2025- DHDan· September 22nd, 2023The 12 day tour was planned beautifully to include a combination of countryside, culture, history, sunrise/sunset, and of course, every kind of annimal imaginable. The tour guides and cook who assisted in every way were knowledgeable, charming, attentive, and thorough. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and met all our needs. The tour provided a comprehensive and beautiful appreciation of these southern African countries and opportunities to meet and speak with local people about their lives. I highly recommend this option for anyone who wants authentic exposure to this part of the African continent.Show more

Your input helps us improve, and we’ll work on ensuring faster service in the future.Trip date: March 2022 - HCHelena· November 12th, 2019We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and had some amazing experiences. Etosha, Chobe and the Okavango Delta we’re definitely our highlights as we saw so many animals. Although the accommodation was varied it was all of the standard we expected or, in some cases, better. The weather was extremely hot during our trip (45c) and so it did get very hot in some accommodation without air con or a fan and on the bus as well but most of the year it is probably fine! Our guide, Laurine, was fantastic at organising everything, cooking us great meals and sharing lots of information. Overall we found this trip to be an amazing experience.Show more
Encounters Travel commented on this reviewHi Helena, thanks for taking the time to get back to us with your detailed feedback. We are happy you enjoyed our Namibia & Botswana Uncovered tour and we hope that you'll join us again in the future!Trip date: October 2019 - VVincePulham· November 10th, 2019The tour is really good and you get to see a lot. The only downside of the tour was that when reading about the tour, it said that there would be guide books and binoculars on the bus. This was not the case. luckily we had taken our own binoculars, but there were no guide books and this was disappointing as I alsways like to read about the places we are travelling through.Show more

Asked on August 13th, 2025Could you please provide details about the accommodation on the tour? Additionally, does the traveler need a visa for Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, and are entry fees for Victoria Falls included or should they be paid upon arrival? Lastly, can airport transfers be arranged?
Encounters TravelOperator•Written August 2025What passport will the traveller be travelling on? Namibia has a visa on arrival system that needs to be pre-booked and paid. Botswana is a visa at the border for most nationalities, and the same for Zimbabwe for most nationalities. The entry fee to visit the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side is included in the tour price, yes. Please let us know the departure date you'd be interested in because the trip changes in 2026. We can then send you information on the start city and information on airport transfers.

Asked on July 8th, 2025I do have a couple of questions for you though, as the start date could be tricky for a couple of us and I was wondering how flexible the tour can be. Basically, two of my companions will be able to arrive in Swakopmund by the 5th to begin the tour on the start date, however myself and another companion might struggle to get to Swakopmund by the 5th. We are climbing Mt Kilimanjaro before this tour and we finish on the 4th in Arusha. Might it be possible to us to to catch up with the tour along the way? Perhaps we could fly to Windhoek and either be picked up from there or catch a bus to Etosha to meet up with the rest of the tour group?
Encounters TravelOperator•Written July 2025To join this trip, you need to arrive in Swakopmund the day before, so on the 7th October. The trip departs very early morning on the 8th October from Swakopmund. We'd only get to Vic Falls on the evening of the 18th October though, so it won't line up with the flights your friends have on the 17th October from Johannesburg.

Traveler•Written April 2025The pictures show photos of the Namib desert similar to that of Deadvlei, are we going to see the dead trees in this tour. (reason is i really wanted to go to Deadvlei for photographic reasons but would be happy with the dead trees from the Namib dessert) I cant find it mentioned in the itinerary.

Traveler•Written April 2025Do we need to provide our own sleeping bags?
Encounters TravelOperator•Written April 2025This trip begins in Swakopmund, which is about a 6-hour drive from Deadvlei. Therefore, you'd need to book an overnight option from Swakopmund to visit Deadvlei. This is not something we offer though, we don't offer day tours/short stays and activities in Swakopmund.
Encounters TravelOperator•Written April 2025On these trips, you can either book the camping option, or the accommodated option. September is still high season, therefore, please let us know whether camping or accommodated and which trip, and we can have a look at availability for you.
Encounters TravelOperator•Written April 2025Unfortunately, we can't assist with international flights. You would fly into Walvis Bay airport at least 1 day before (Namibia & Botswana Uncovered) OR Cape Town International (Grand Southern Safari). And you would fly out of the Victoria Falls International airport on the last day.

Asked on April 7th, 2025Does this trip offer a chance to go to deadvlei namibia? Can it be arranged? Also I'm travelling with my friend who is of opposite sex, what are the single supplements? Can we be paired with other solo travelers of the same sex?
Encounters TravelOperator•Written April 2025Deasvlei/Sossusvlei is not included in this trip, no. This is a good 6-hour drive from Swakopmund, per way. You can, however, see this if you book our Grand Southern Safari trip that begins in Cape Town. We don't pair you up with other single travellers if you book the accommodated trip. The single supplement is mandatory when booking this. If you book the camping trip, you have the option of paying the single supplement, or we pair you up with a traveller of the same sex.
