Itinerary
- Day 1
Cape Town
You'll arrive in Cape Town and have the day to yourself before meeting the group. Walk through Newlands Forest if you want to get moving, or take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for views across the city. Check out Cape Town Stadium down at the waterfront. At 6 pm your group gathers for a welcome briefing, and your leader can point you toward good dinner spots. Head out with everyone after that for your first meal together.

Cape Town to Western Cape
You're heading north from Cape Town through the Western Cape today, driving through countryside and watching the landscape change. Later you'll arrive at a working farm where you'll stay the night. This gives you a real sense of rural South African life. Before settling in for the evening, there's time to walk around the surrounding mountains and farms if the light holds.

Western Cape to Orange River
The drive takes you to the Orange River, which marks the border between South Africa and Namibia. You'll pass through Namaqualand on the way, and if you're traveling between late July and mid-September, you'll see the wildflowers in bloom across the landscape. Along the route you'll learn that this is South Africa's longest river at 2,200 km, flowing all the way from the Drakensberg Mountain Range down to the Atlantic at Alexander Bay.

Orange River to Fish River Canyon
This morning you have the option to paddle a canoe down the Orange River, floating gently through the water to soak in the regional scenery. After that, you're traveling west into Namibia's desert terrain toward Fish River Canyon. This canyon ranks among the world's largest at 500 m deep and stretches over 160 km. Time your arrival to catch the sunset, when the granite rocks shift through oranges and reds.

Fish River Canyon to Namib Desert
Today's a long driving day as you head toward Namibia's famous sand dunes. Stop at a market or shop to grab supplies before you reach the bush camp tomorrow. Once you hit the Namib Desert, get out and stretch, taking in the vast expanse around you. You'll be based near Sesriem Canyon surrounded by some of the world's highest dune fields. Get to bed early since you'll be waking before dawn tomorrow.

Namib Desert
Rise well before dawn and climb the dunes to watch the sun break across an endless sea of sand. The light changes constantly as the sun rises, and afterward you'll have brunch with that view as your backdrop. These dunes rank among the highest globally and support diverse wildlife. Later, a pickup takes you to Sossusvlei, a remarkable salt and clay pan nearby, where you can wander at your own pace. By afternoon you're back at your bush camp in the heart of the desert.

Namib Desert to Swakopmund
You're traveling to Swakopmund today, a coastal town that's boxed in by massive dune fields on three sides and the Atlantic Ocean on the fourth. The town has a distinctive German-Namibian character that makes it pleasant to walk around. If museums interest you, the Swakopmund Museum is worth visiting, the largest privately run museum in Namibia with exhibits on zoology, geology, and technology.

Swakopmund
You have the full day to explore Swakopmund however you want. Walk through town and check out the Germanic architecture, or browse the shops for souvenirs. The lighthouse and museum are solid options if you're drawn to history and culture. The town is known as Namibia's adventure-sports capital, so there are plenty of active options available if you want them.

Swakopmund
Another free day in Swakopmund. You could spend it relaxing, reading, or taking a swim in the ocean. If you'd rather get out of town, the Okakambe Trails and Camel Farm are both about 12 km east. A horse ride or camel ride through the desert landscape offers a different way to experience the region.

Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe
You're heading up the Atlantic Coast toward Spitzkoppe today. Along the way, you'll see thousands of olive-colored seals at Cape Cross, and the sights and sounds there are something else. Spitzkoppe is one of Namibia's most beautiful areas and locals call it the Matterhorn of Namibia. The hiking trails are excellent and the region is rich with plant life and thousands of ancient Bushmen rock art paintings. Tonight at your bush camp, watch for the sunset when the landscape turns brilliant oranges and reds.

Spitzkoppe to Etosha National Park
You're setting off toward Etosha National Park this morning, one of the world's best spots for wildlife viewing. Stop along the way if you need to hit a market, shop, or ATM. The park's home to southern Africa's diverse animals in the wild, including all the big carnivores and rare species like black rhino, Hartmann's mountain zebra, and tiny Damara dik-dik. An optional evening game drive is on offer before you settle at Okaukuejo Camp, which overlooks a floodlit waterhole that attracts many different species.

- Day 12
Etosha National Park
You're spending the full day on a game drive through Etosha today. Spotting wildlife is relatively straightforward here because of the constructed waterholes and large pans that have less vegetation. The bushland can be dense in places, but there are enough open areas and waterholes that you'll typically see animals. Namibia's strict protection of the reserves means large numbers of elephants, antelope, and other herbivores live freely here. Tonight you'll stay at Namutoni Camp.

Etosha to Grootfontein
You're leaving Etosha behind and continuing to a camp 50 km outside Grootfontein, which will be your base for tomorrow's visit with the San people. When you arrive, stretch your legs, perhaps have a swim, and spend a relaxed evening with the group.

Grootfontein
Today you're taking a 180-km round trip to visit the San people. You'll walk alongside tribe members, hear their stories and songs, and learn their Khoisan dialect known for its clicking sounds. The San are southern Africa's oldest ethnic group, living here for about 20,000 years. Today roughly 30,000 San live in Namibia, though only about 2,000 maintain a traditional lifestyle. You'll gain insight into their understanding of nature and ecology.

Grootfontein to Bagani
You're heading to Bagani today to set up camp for the night. It's a small, welcoming town with good spots to relax and take in the atmosphere while watching the sun set over the Okavango River. You might catch grunting hippos coming out of the water to graze. The area is the homestead of the local Mbukushu kings and their kingdom.

Bagani to Okavango Delta
You're crossing the border into Botswana and driving south along the Okavango Panhandle to Sepopa. There you'll leave the vehicle behind and board a boat to travel into the delta, reaching your bush camp on an island. As you punt through the waterways past birds and lily pads, hippos occasionally interrupt the quiet with their characteristic grunts.

- Day 17
Okavango Delta
After breakfast, you're heading out for your mokoro experience. Each small dugout canoe takes two people and a local tribesman poles it along the winding waterways. You'll also take a short guided walk to explore the natural surroundings, learn about local history, and look for birds and occasionally elephants. After your delta time, you return by boat to Sepopa Camp with its hot showers, pool, and bar. An optional scenic flight to view the delta from above is available.

Bagani to Chobe National Park
Setting out from Bagani this morning, you're driving to Chobe National Park. Watch the landscape roll past your window or play games with your travel friends. You'll cross into Botswana at the Goma border, the gateway to the park. Once you're there, an optional cruise down the Chobe River is available, which is one of the best ways to spot the park's animals like hippos, elephants, and buffalo.

Chobe National Park
An early-morning game drive takes you through the park with chances to get close to wildlife and spot lions, buffalo, and exotic birds. Look out for elephant herds, since Botswana's first national park is famous for its high concentration of them. You'll often see them swimming in the Chobe River. The river also attracts buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles lounging by the water. In the afternoon, an optional second boat cruise or afternoon game drive lets you see the animals from a different angle.

Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls
You're traveling to Victoria Falls today, crossing into Zimbabwe in time for lunch on the Zambezi River banks. While visiting Victoria Falls is optional, it's really worth doing. The water spans about 1.6 km and drops 108 m into a narrow gorge below. In wet season the spray rises about 400 m and the falls become a powerful torrent. In dry season the mist clears and you can see small river islets. Tonight the group gathers for a celebration dinner, reflecting on your southern Africa journey and the shared memories.
