- Day 2
Quito
Spend the morning walking through Quito's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll see colonial squares, churches, and narrow alleys that give the quarter its character. Head up to Panecillo viewpoint in the afternoon for views across the city, grab lunch in the old town, then return to your hotel by late afternoon.

Quito to Imbabura Province
Drive north from Quito to Cuicocha crater lake where you'll hike the full circuit on a maintained trail between 3,100 and 3,500 meters (10,171 and 11,483 feet). The hike has nice views and plenty of botanical interest as an introduction to hiking at altitude. After lunch in the afternoon, continue driving to Hosteria Palmeras, a country estate in Imbabura province where you'll stay the night.

Imbabura Province to San Clemente
Head out early to Lake Mojanda at 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) and climb Fuya Fuya, the highest point in the Mojanda massif, with some rocky sections near the top. You'll descend back to the lake, then drive to Otavalo to walk through the colorful textile market and pick up souvenirs. Later, continue to San Clemente where you'll stay with a local family in this welcoming community at the base of Imbabura mountain.

Landmarks Lake Mojanda Fuya Fuya Otavalo Textile Market - Day 5
San Clemente to Quito
Breakfast happens early, then you'll start hiking Imbabura at daybreak. Climb to 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) through steep grassy slopes, reach the sub-summit via easy rock steps, then spend another hour walking the crater rim to the main summit. The final section requires careful footing since it's somewhat exposed in places. After descending the same route, you'll head back to Quito and stay at Hotel Vieja Cuba.

Landmarks Imbabura - Day 6
Quito to Iliniza
Take the cable car up the Pichincha Massif west of Quito to 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). From there, follow a good path to the rocky summit with easy rock steps leading to the peak, where you'll see across Quito. Ride the cable car back down to the city, then drive south to your accommodation at the base of Iliniza for the night.

Landmarks Pichincha Massif - Day 7
Iliniza
Wake before dawn and drive thirty minutes to the starting point at 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). Begin with an easy three-hour hike to a simple mountain hut, then the terrain becomes rockier as you follow the ridge toward the summit. Iliniza North requires both stamina and surefootedness, particularly on exposed sections, though reaching the summit feels like real accomplishment. Descend directly back to the parking lot and return to Quito.
