Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival at Yasuni Amazon Lodge
You'll arrive at the Kichwa Añangu community lodge in Yasuni Biosphere Reserve and be greeted with traditional wayusa before heading to your rainforest-view room. The afternoon involves hiking the Playas trail where you can spot Amazon wildlife along river islands and shores, with optional kayaking available if you want to catch the sunset on the Napo River. After returning to the lodge for dinner, you'll settle in for your first night listening to the jungle sounds around you.

Kichwa Community & Añangu Stream
Start early with sunrise breakfast, then visit sustainable community projects to learn about Kichwa worldview and medicinal traditions. You'll walk the Mama-Kuna road through rainforest passing ceiba trees, strangler vines, and endemic bamboo while watching for wildlife. After lunch, paddle through the Añangu black water stream to see monkeys, caimans, and possibly giant river otters. The day ends with a night walk around the lodge looking for insects, reptiles, and nocturnal mammals like night monkeys.

Parrot Clay Lick & Observation Tower
After early breakfast, take a motor boat to the parrot clay lick on the Napo River, the reserve's main highlight. You'll use binoculars to spot blue-headed and yellow-crowned parrots along with dusky-headed parakeets from the boat. Then hike about 30 minutes on the Pericos trail to a forest blind for close-up views of up to 11 parrot species, macaws, and possibly howler monkeys or tapirs. Visit Kuri Muyu interpretation center to learn about Kichwa culture and crafts from community members. Later, climb the 35-meter observation tower for chances to see birds, monkeys, toucans, and sloths. After dinner, you'll board an ancestral catamaran for the evening, experiencing traditional chants and fire-grilled snacks.

- Hike one hour to climb 35-meter observation tower above rainforest canopy to spot birds, monkeys, toucans, and sloths
- Evening aboard ancestral catamaran on Napo River with traditional chants and fire-grilled snacks

Observation Tower & Final Evening
Climb the almost 40-meter high observation tower for views across the jungle canopy with opportunities to spot monkeys and tropical birds. You'll have a quiet afternoon back at the lodge before a dinner to end the day.

Departure from Yasuni
Consider joining the optional wayusada ritual at dawn around 4:30 am, where the Kichwa family shares the sacred wayusa drink and traditional chants while you learn to interpret dreams with community elders. After breakfast, you'll depart on comfortable motor boats for the final journey through Ecuadorian rainforest landscape to La Mision river port in Coca town.
