This was THE vacation of a lifetime. We saw SO MANY animals, and truly had our dream vacation. All of the accommodations in Quito, Santa Cruz Island, and Isabella Island were wonderful, and added to this amazing experience. All of the pickup & drop off arrangements, and provided instructions were worry-free. We went on this tour during the COVID-19 pandemic, and all safety precautions were adhered to. We felt so safe in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We couldn't be happier with this vacation and absolutely recommend this tour.

This was such an amazing and affordable option for traveling to the mainland of Ecuador. Ecaudor has so much to offer and we feel that this tour showed us so much of it. The logistics of the itinerary were thoughtfully put together and made for such an easy time. We were given our pickup times and locations (mainly at our hotels) and someone was always there asking for us by name to take us either on a tour or a private drive to the next city. Isabel stayed on top of the tour companies that the sport activities were booked with to make sure we were taken care of at all times. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This tour was a great tour to save the logistics hustles. It is great for people who have little time before the trip to plan because it certainly covers all the highlights in the Galapagos. I didn’t expect it is not a group tour but I guess that’s part of my fault. Nevertheless i enjoyed the Galapagos and looking forward to going back.

Best tour companies for Ecuador tours
Looking at the recent feedback from our travelers, Intrepid comes out particularly strong with their Ecuador tours. They've got their logistics sorted well - the itineraries make sense, run smoothly and you get solid value for what you pay. What really stands out though are their guides, who know their stuff about local wildlife and environmental protection. Adventure Journeys also gets lots of positive mentions from travelers coming back from Ecuador. The places they pick to stay have real character, and they're doing the food right - you'll get proper Ecuadorian dishes throughout. Their guide David keeps getting special mentions in reviews; he's one of those guides who helps you really understand local life rather than just ticking off tourist spots. G Adventures is having a bit of a rougher time lately. When political issues came up in Ecuador, some of our travelers ran into problems. The buses weren't always on schedule, there were some hiccups with hotels and getting clear updates was tricky at times. It's an area where they could definitely step up their game. I should note these experiences are mainly from 2023, which was a bit of an unusual year for Ecuador with the political situation. Still, it shows which companies handled the challenges better than others.
Best places to start your Ecuador tour
Most people (about 72% of our travelers) kick off their Ecuador experience in Quito, while others fly directly to Baltra Island or San Cristóbal for Galapagos-focused trips. You'll want to book roughly 3.7 months ahead - that's about 112 days before you plan to travel. This timing really matters for Galapagos tours since boats have strict capacity limits and permits are carefully controlled to protect the environment. It's smart to spend 2-3 days in Quito first - not just for altitude adjustment but also to explore the local markets, cultural sites and authentic food scene. If you're planning to explore the Andes region, June through September typically offers the clearest skies for hiking and mountain views.

Autumn works well for exploring high mountains and coastal areas both. Active tours combine horse rides near snowy volcanoes, downhill biking on jungle paths and kayaking in wildlife spots. You'll visit artists' workshops in the Andes, learn chocolate making from local experts and spot countless birds in misty forests. Our guests often mention how they love the variety - hiking volcanic trails one day, swimming with sea turtles the next and also learning at wildlife breeding centers.
