Lucerne
You'll arrive in Lucerne by train and settle into your hotel. In the afternoon, head up to Stanserhorn on a mountain excursion that combines a historic funicular with a modern CabriO convertible cable car. The ride gives you views of Lake Lucerne, and there's a revolving restaurant at the top if you want to grab lunch or a drink up there.

Lucerne to Grindelwald
Board the Lucerne-Interlaken Express, which takes you over the Brünig Pass with panoramic windows and a bistro car where you can pick up drinks and snacks. You'll travel alongside the blue waters of Lake Brienz before arriving in Interlaken, then catch a regional train to Grindelwald. There's time to walk around Interlaken if you want to explore a bit before heading out.

Grindelwald
Spend your day at leisure in Grindelwald. You have the option to visit First at 2,168 metres using the cable car, which passes over Lake Bachalp. Hiking routes are available from the summit if you prefer something quieter.

Grindelwald to Montreux
Leave Grindelwald early and head to Interlaken to board the Goldenpass Express. This 3 hour 15 minute train ride takes you to Montreux, passing Gstaad and Zweisimmen before descending through vineyards. The train has special technology that changes the gauge as it travels. After arriving, you'll have the rest of the day free to check out the Montreux Riviera.

- Day 6
Montreux
Take a train from Montreux to visit the Gruyère Cheese Dairy and Cailler Chocolate Factory on the same day. Start at La Maison du Gruyère to watch traditional cheese-making and taste different types, then walk through the 13th-century village with its castle museum and the H.R. Giger museum. Later, travel to Broc for Maison Cailler to explore chocolate history and sample varieties before returning to Montreux by regional train for the evening.

Travel from Montreux to Zermatt using regional trains with one change in Visp. Trains run every 30 minutes so connections are reliable. Once you arrive in Zermatt, check in at your hotel and use the afternoon to settle in and look around town at your own pace.

Zermatt
Spend your full day at Gornergrat, which sits at 3,089 metres. A cogwheel train takes you up through tunnels and mountain landscapes, passing forests and lakes along the way. From the top, you'll see the Matterhorn and 29 other peaks over 4,000 metres plus the Gorner Glacier. Hiking and biking trails branch off from multiple stops. Your return ticket includes entry to the ZOOOM Matterhorn multimedia experience and the historic locomotive 3003.
