Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Sibiu
You'll arrive in Sibiu by plane, bus, or train. Depending on when you get there, you can walk around this European Cultural Capital from 2017, grab some coffee at a local café, or do a bit of shopping. Later in the day, you'll transfer to Rasinari, a shepherds village at the base of the Cindrel Mountains, where you'll be staying in a family guesthouse for the next three nights.

Landmarks/POIs Sibiu - Day 2
Rasinari Cycling Tour
This morning starts with a bike ride through dense forest, covering about 40 km with roughly 150 m of climbing. You'll join a guided tour to see Sibiu's main sights, then cycle past the ASTRA open-air museum, the largest in South-East Europe at 92 hectares with traditional Romanian dwellings on display. By late afternoon you're back in Rasinari.

Saxon Villages and Museums
After breakfast, you'll head to Cisnadie and Cisnadioara, two Saxon villages from the early 13th century known for their orchards. The route takes you through Poplaca to Sibiel, where you can see the Hinterglasikonen Museum with its glass icon paintings. You'll also visit Gura Raului before returning to Rasinari in the late afternoon.

Sibiu to Biertan
You'll take a train from Sibiu to Dumbraveni, then get back on your bike to ride to Biertan, a village with one of the best-preserved fortified churches and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your guesthouse is right within the church walls. Spend the evening exploring the village and the area on foot.

Biertan to Medias Cycling Route
From Biertan, you'll cycle to Richis, a village once wealthy from wine production with terraced vineyards and impressive Saxon architecture still visible. There you can meet with the sexton of the Evangelical Church, one of the last remaining Saxons here, who shares local history. After that, cycling continues to Meschen to see its fortified church with the spectacle tower, then on to Medias, another Saxon city, before heading back to Biertan.

Cycling to Dumbraveni
You'll cycle from Biertan through Copsa Mare to Dumbraveni, passing churches and forest cabins along the way. Dumbraveni has been a center of Armenian culture since the Middle Ages in Transylvania. If the weather cooperates, you can take a bath at a local spot, then cycle back through Atel with a lunch break at a cabin in the woods before returning to Biertan.

Sighisoara and Brasov
You're transferring to Sighisoara, arguably Transylvania's most beautiful city with a well-preserved Medieval center that's a UNESCO World Heritage site. A guided tour shows you landmarks like the Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill. Later, you'll take a train to Brasov for a tour of its old town with Renaissance and Baroque buildings, then transfer to the village of Bran where you're staying for two nights.

Bran Castle and Rasnov
You'll visit Castle Dracula and its museum near where you're staying. It turns out the castle is far less sinister than its legendary reputation suggests. Then you'll cycle to Rasnov and hike up to the beautiful Rasnov Castle. For those up for a challenge, there's an uphill bike ride to Poiana Brasovului, one of Romania's main ski resorts, where you'll be picked up and driven back to Sibiu for your final night.

Carpathian Route to Sibiu
You'll cycle along the Carpathians toward Zarnesti, which is known for its bear observation platforms. The route continues via Poiana Marului to Sercaia. At 3:00 p.m. you'll meet your guide at the fortified church in Sercaia for a bus transfer back to Sibiu. You'll have the rest of the afternoon free to explore the city.
