What people love about Switzerland Tours from Zurich
- Magical Switzerland (Classic)
This was my first time traveling with Insight. I was a little nervous has I was doing a twin share and traveling alone. Sue made sure everything went smoothly and that my roommate and I were ok with everything. I did all of the optional experiences, all of which were amazing. I loved the Sleigh Ride in St. Moritz, definitely worth the money. The highlight of the trip was definitely the Matterhorn optional experience. I never realized how amazing seeing the mountain up close would be. Everyone on the sold out coach went for this excursion. It was crazy, how cold it got and how much the altitude effected me. I felt like I was drunk. The Christmas Market in Montreaux was glorious. I could have spent days wandering through it. Overall one of the best trips I have ever done. I will definitely be traveling with Insight in the future.
- Swiss Miracle
In summary, one word: WOW!!! Absolutely spectacular sites, most even better than the last, unbelievably! A well-planned trip, with aggressive days to see a lot of phenomenal sites (that are VERY insightful in their selection), but self-paced “free days” that are relaxing and let us explore. We are very grateful to Open Up Swiss Dream Travel. Vitalii, Bob, and Michael all work VERY hard in providing the tour, I am very grateful for their insights, hard work, and expert driving and navigation in making a very efficient trip. I highly recommend arriving a few days early to get over any jet lag before the tour (Vitalii didn’t gouge us on pre-tour accommodations and was very fair in adding that price in); we rented a car and went to Freulerpalast and Castle (Schloss) Kyber, then took the train to Lucerne on pre-tour days. On another free day on the tour from Interlakken, we took a train/gondola/tram to Jungfrau, the highest mountain in Europe. I recommend stopping by churches on your free day, for some remarkable architecture. About 30% of Swiss people apparently speak English, and MOST service workers do, so if you smile and be polite, folks will likely help you. On free days, the “SBB” app was very helpful, it is an integrated schedule (with GPS directions to the bus stations) of bus, funicular, tram, and train on a national scale, though there were a few bugs with it. On the tour, a lot of driving in very comfortable minibuses as we made our way across the country, but views were still amazing. The small group size was key to enjoyment, in contrast to 55-passenger busses of other tours; it was still economical, but we could move quickly. The chocolate and cheese factories were not as great as the natural sites, but still good for cultural appreciation and along the way as we drove. Hotels were good, though some weren’t quite “four star” for US standards; the air conditioning in the summer didn’t keep up; but all had VERY friendly staff and PHENOMENAL breakfasts; we at a LOT, as other meals in most restaurants were $40 per person (yikes). However, there is a lot of walking/hiking at times, so a moderate level of fitness helps. So thanks, Open Up Swiss Dream Travel, for a truly awesome experience!
- Contrasts of Switzerland
We think the tour of Switzerland using the train system is the best way to see the beauty of the country. It's efficient and faster and more direct than driving or taking a bus. Our guide, Stephanie Bahr was outstanding and made the tour a great and informative experience. Our group of 48 was a very workable size and composed of wonderful people from the US, Australia, New Zealand and England. The pleasant disposition of all of them was an additional highlight of this trip. Trafalgar does a very thorough job organizing the entire experience.
