Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Moshi
You'll arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and get transported to your hotel in Moshi. After checking in and settling into your room, there's time to rest and adjust to the local time. Later in the day you'll meet with your guides for a pre-climb briefing where they'll go over the route and what to expect. There's also a gear check to make sure everything you're bringing works properly and fits well.

Moshi to Machame Camp
In the morning you'll drive from Moshi to Machame Gate where the actual climb begins. The first section takes you through thick forest vegetation as you head upward, and it's a gradual introduction to the mountain. By afternoon you'll reach Machame Camp at around 8,993 feet (2,743 meters) where your tent is set up for the night.

Landmarks Machame Gate Machame Camp 
- Day 3
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
This day involves hiking through changing landscape as you move toward Shira Camp. You'll notice the forest starting to thin out and the vegetation shifting to more shrubby plants. The terrain gets progressively more open with better views of the mountain around you. You arrive at Shira Camp at approximately 12,600 feet (3,840 meters) with the rest of the afternoon and evening to acclimatize.

Landmarks Shira Camp - Day 4
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
You'll walk across the high Shira Plateau in the morning with good sightlines of Mount Mawenzi and Kibo ahead. After spending time on the plateau, the route heads downward toward Barranco Camp. This descent actually helps your body adjust to the altitude before you climb higher again. By evening you're camped at 13,044 feet (3,976 meters).

Landmarks Shira Plateau Barranco Camp - Day 5
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Early in the day comes the Barranco Wall, a steep rocky section that looks intimidating but uses hand and foot holds to get up safely. After completing that challenge, the trail continues to Karanga Camp where you'll be at 13,714 feet (4,180 meters). This is a shorter distance than previous days, which gives your body time to handle the increased altitude.

Landmarks Barranco Wall Karanga Camp - Day 6
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today's hike to Barafu Camp is relatively short, getting you to your final camp before the summit attempt. You'll be at 15,331 feet (4,673 meters), and there's plenty of afternoon and evening to rest and prepare mentally. Your guides will brief you on the early morning push, and you'll have dinner then an early bedtime to get sleep before the 1 or 2 AM wake up call.

Landmarks Barafu Camp - Day 7
Summit Attempt and Descent to Mweka Camp
Around 1 or 2 AM you'll start hiking in darkness with headlamps, moving steadily upward toward Uhuru Peak. The final push takes several hours, and you'll reach the summit at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) as the sun rises. After spending time at the top taking photos and taking in the views, you'll head back down to Mweka Camp at 10,065 feet (3,068 meters) to rest and recover from the effort.

Landmarks Uhuru Peak Mweka Camp - Day 8
Mweka Camp to Moshi and Departure
The last day involves a descent from Mweka Camp down to Mweka Gate, which takes a few hours and is mostly downhill through forest. Once you reach the gate, transport brings you back to your hotel in Moshi where you can shower and change into clean clothes. Your guides will present you with your official summit certificate, and there's time to say thank you and goodbye to the team that helped you reach the top.
