Asked on March 18th, 2025Would it be better to go on the Date starting the 26th or the Date of the 30th as I am a solo traveler not minding have a shared room space. I really dont think the weather would not be a factor in either trip. I am hoping for great weather.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2025
Taking a look at travel dates there isn't much of a difference between the 2 departure. Our 29JUL departure only has 3 spots remaining and the group seems like a good mix on ages and there are quiet a few females/solo travelers booked at this time. Our 30JUL departure has 6 spots remaining also a decent mix in terms of solos but age wise is leaning towards the older side (50+). Either date weather wise would be fine so it's completely your choice which one you go with but please bare in mind that these demos can change at anytime leading up to the trip.

Asked on March 8th, 2025Is it possible to arrive to Sandakan 1-2 days earlier and stay at the same hotel that we will have the meeting in? Is it safe to use a taxi from the airport to the hotel location as a solo female traveler? Is there a pool at the hotel or the beach within walking distance? Can a female wears a two piece swimming attire at the pool? Are shorts and sleeveless tops appropriate to wear while walking in the city?

Traveler•Written March 2025Is there a night for wildlife spotting? Can we bring our binoculars or is it even necessary?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2025
We can help with booking pre accommodation at the tour starting point. Yes, taking a taxi from Sandakan Airport to Sabah Hotel is generally safe for a solo female traveler. It's recommended to use official airport taxis or ride-hailing apps for added security. Sabah Hotel has a swimming pool, but there is no beach within walking distance. Wearing a two-piece swimsuit at the hotel pool is generally acceptable. While shorts and sleeveless tops are acceptable in Sandakan, keep in mind that dress standards in Malaysia are more conservative. We recommend wearing modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, particularly in rural areas and religious sites.

Yes, there is an optional night wildlife spotting cruise on Day 3 at Kinabatangan River. You can book this locally. Yes, you can bring your own binoculars, and it's recommended if you want to enhance your wildlife-spotting experience. If you prefer, you can also hire binoculars at Kinabatangan River.
