Nairobi
You'll arrive in Nairobi and have time to explore the city's markets and restaurants if your flight gets in early. At 6 pm, there's a welcome meeting at your accommodation, followed by dinner with the group to get to know everyone.

Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park
The drive northwest takes you through the Rift Valley with views of Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementaita along the way. You'll reach Lake Nakuru National Park in the evening for a game drive along the lake shore. The park is compact but excellent for spotting rhinos and other Big Five wildlife.

Lake Nakuru to Eldoret
After an early breakfast, you'll do an overland game drive as you leave the park, stopping for lunch at the gate. Then it's a drive northwest to Eldoret, a high-altitude training hub for distance runners. Camp outside the city and enjoy a traditional dinner tonight.

Eldoret to Kampala
You cross into Uganda and head to Kampala, the capital. It's a long travel day, so instead of camping you'll stay at a hotel for proper rest. Dinner is hotel-prepared, giving you a comfortable night after the journey.

Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park and set up camp. Once settled, you can take an optional boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel if you're interested. The waterway is known for pelicans, eagles, and other birdlife, plus hippos.

Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kalinzu Forest National Park
Start with a leisurely morning game drive looking for elephants, buffalo, Ugandan kobs, and waterbucks. Then drive to Kalinzu Forest National Park, home to chimpanzees, colobuses, baboons, and various antelope species. You'll have time to settle in and explore the surrounding area.

Kalinzu Forest to Kisoro
There's an optional chimpanzee excursion in Kalinzu Forest if you want to see them in the trees. Then you'll travel to Kisoro in southwest Uganda near the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Camp on Lake Mutanda's shore with views of the Virunga Mountains. You can relax, swim, or look for weaver bird nests and African clawless otters.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
This is the gorilla trekking day in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You'll climb through rugged mountain terrain with a local ranger and gorilla trackers to encounter habituated gorilla families. No more than eight people visit any one family per day. Watch them eat, sleep, groom, and play, led by a silverback. The trek is strenuous but the experience is rare.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park / Kisoro
If yesterday's gorilla visit didn't happen, you'll head out again. With your free day, your leader will suggest options for the Kisoro area. You might explore rainforests for monkeys, take nature walks, or possibly venture to Rwanda to visit the genocide memorial, art museum, and Nyamirambo women's center.

Continue heading inland toward Jinja, a riverside town at the source of the Nile and Uganda's adventure capital. You'll camp at a scenic riverside site and prepare for tomorrow's activities.

You have a full free day at Jinja, located where the Nile leaves Lake Victoria. Explore at your own pace and choose from the range of adventure activities available. The town has plenty to offer if you want to stay active or take things slower.

Jinja to Kericho
Leave Uganda and head back toward Kenya and Nairobi, stopping overnight in Kericho. The town sits among thick tea plantations and evergreens. You'll visit a tea plantation to learn about farming from local farmers.

Kericho to Maasai Mara National Park
Head to Maasai Mara National Park, stopping at Loita Hills to visit Tepesua Village. You'll meet Maasai warriors and learn about their culture and community development projects. There's an eco-friendly handbag workshop run by local women to check out. You'll arrive at Maasai Mara for an early evening game drive with expert guides.

Maasai Mara National Park

Nairobi to Mto wa Mbu
Depart early in your overland truck, crossing the border from Kenya into Tanzania. Have your passport ready. Stop at an ATM and market to stock up on supplies. You'll arrive in Mto wa Mbu, a small village off the tourist trail that offers a genuine snapshot of small-town African life.

Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti National Park
Get up early and load gear into a six-person jeep for the Serengeti via Ngorongoro Crater. Spend 3 to 4 hours exploring this intact volcanic caldera, watching for black rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, impalas, zebras, and hippos. With roughly 30,000 animals here, photo opportunities are unrivalled. Continue to the Serengeti plains and camp in the park.

Serengeti National Park
Wake at dawn for an early game drive while animals are active, returning around 11 am for brunch. Spend the middle of the day relaxing like the animals do, then head out again as it cools for an evening game drive and dinner. There's an optional pre-booked balloon ride at sunrise instead of the early drive, including a five-star bush breakfast.

Serengeti to Mto wa Mbu
Rise with the sun for another game drive as you leave the Serengeti. Get back in your overland vehicle and head to Mto wa Mbu. After setting up camp, take a guided stroll through farming areas and local homes to understand how the community lives. Enjoy a local dinner in town.

Mto wa Mbu to Lushoto
Begin a long travel day heading for the Usambara Mountains. Stop in Arusha to stretch your legs and get supplies, then continue watching the landscape change and getting to know fellow travelers. Base yourself in Lushoto, an old German colony at around 1400 metres elevation and home to the Wasambaa people. Camp is in the grounds of one of Africa's oldest hotels.

Lushoto
Explore the beautiful, unspoilt Usambara Mountains. Few tourists visit this area, which gives it a freshness hard to find elsewhere. You'll visit small local communities and experience genuine hospitality. Walk out to the gorgeous Irente viewpoint, bringing water and snacks. On the way back, visit a local cultural project for a prepared lunch.

Lushoto to Dar es Salaam
Travel south from the mountains to Kipepeo Beach in Dar es Salaam. Camp right by the beach and take a stroll along the shore after you arrive.

Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar
Catch a ferry to Zanzibar, Africa's famous 'Spice Island.' You'll have free time to discover Zanzibar City at your own pace. Wander through Stone Town's cobblestone alleyways, admire the Arabic, African, and European architecture, or check out the bustling Darajani Bazaar. At 2 pm there's a welcome meeting to meet new travellers joining this leg. Grab dinner at a local restaurant afterwards.

Spend a final morning relaxing on the sandy northern beaches before returning to Stone Town for an afternoon and evening at leisure. You have a long drive tomorrow, so take advantage of your free time.

Zanzibar to Mikumi
Embrace an early start with a 7:30 am ferry to the mainland, then head for Mikumi. Watch Tanzanian landscape pass by with vast plains dotted with baobab and tamarind trees where elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, lions, and leopards appear. Set up camp with your leader's help and settle in for the night.

Mikumi to Iringa
Wake up early for a 4WD game drive into Mikumi National Park with local expert guides. This less-touristed park has impressive numbers of elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, wildebeest, and impalas, and you might spot a predator. Drive to Iringa afterwards and camp on farmhouse grounds with natural bushland. Enjoy stargazing before sleep.

Iringa to Chitimba
You enter Malawi this morning and travel to your campsite at Chitimba. Malawi, known as the 'warm heart of Africa,' is dominated by Lake Malawi, which covers almost a fifth of the country and provides a livelihood for many people through fishing and traditional crafts.

Chitimba to Kande Beach
Travel from Chitimba to Kande Beach on Lake Malawi's shore. Stop at a shop or market for any supplies you need. You'll enjoy a relaxing getaway from commercialism and crowds with a few days on the lake's peaceful beaches. Your campsite sits right on the shore.

Kande Beach to South Luangwa
Journey through southern Malawi and enter Zambia, continuing to South Luangwa National Park. Handle border crossing formalities and stop to get supplies or visit an ATM at a local shop or market. The Luangwa River and its lagoons have one of Africa's highest concentrations of animals.

Rise early, grab a light breakfast, and get ready for a morning game drive in a 4WD with a local guide. Return to camp for an early lunch during the hottest part of the day. After breakfast, visit a workshop where local craftswomen transform snare wire recovered from poaching traps into African bush-inspired jewellery. Petauke to Lusaka
Head south to your next camp just south of Lusaka City. When you arrive, stretch your legs and take a stroll to discover the town on foot. Lusaka has a strong African feel and locals often enjoy chatting. Your leader will give you local insights. Tonight, chill out under the stars at camp.

Lusaka to Harare
Travel to Harare today. Head to the Zimbabwe border, cross into the country, and go through border formalities. Continue to Harare and explore the town upon arrival. Stock up on supplies at a local market or shop.

Harare to Masvingo
Head to Masvingo, Zimbabwe's oldest colonial settlement and the perfect base for the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. Spend a few hours exploring this UNESCO World Heritage site, originally built in the 11th century and believed to be a monarch's seat of power. Return to camp where your night is free to relax.

Masvingo to Bulawayo
Travel to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city known locally as the 'City of Kings.' Explore the impeccable historical architecture on foot at your own pace when you arrive. You have free time in the afternoon to wander and chat with locals. The Natural History Museum and National Art Gallery are worth checking out.

Bulawayo to Matobo National Park
Get ready to track black and white rhinos on foot with an expert guide in Matobo National Park. You'll spot other wildlife like klipspringers, leopards, warthogs, and springhares. Learn about unique animals and local plants including wild pear and paperbark. See San paintings and rock formations. Matobo is an important spiritual and cultural site for local people.

Matobo National Park to Victoria Falls
Depart Bulawayo and drive toward Victoria Falls. The falls stretch 1.6 km wide and drop 108 m into a narrow gorge. The local name, 'Mosi oa Tunya,' means 'Smoke that Thunders.' In wet season, spray rises 400 m; in dry season, you get unobstructed views of the falls and islets. The visit is optional but recommended. Your leader takes you to a local activity centre with optional activities.
