Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Windhoek to Etosha National Park

Your pickup happens at 07:00 from your Windhoek accommodation, then you'll head to Chameleon Headquarters for a pre-departure briefing. The drive north takes you through Otjiwarongo where you'll grab supplies and have a light lunch before entering Etosha National Park. You'll spend the afternoon on a game drive through this massive 22,000 sq km park, stopping at various waterholes to look for wildlife. By sunset you'll reach your lodge and have dinner at the camp restaurant. After breakfast, you'll spend your entire day in an open game viewer exploring Etosha with your guide. Early morning is your best chance to spot big cats heading back from hunts. Throughout the day you'll move between different waterholes waiting for animals to come drink. You'll stop to see the Etosha Pan, a 4,700 sq km white mineral expanse that's visible from space. Later in the afternoon as the sun gets lower, you'll exit at Anderson Gate and transfer to your new accommodation. Check into your twin-share room with modern facilities and have dinner there.

  3. Day 3

Etosha to Skeleton Coast to Swakopmund

You'll leave early heading west toward the Skeleton Coast through Damaraland on gravel roads. The drive takes you past Outjo and through scenic landscape with mountains, pink granite koppies, and grasslands. Along the way you can stop at informal shops to meet locals from Himba, Herero, and Damara tribes and pick up handcrafted souvenirs. You'll have a light picnic lunch near Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain at 2,573 m. After that, continue west to the Atlantic coast to see the Skeleton Coast landscape and view the 2008 shipwreck of The Zeila. You'll arrive in colonial Swakopmund by evening, check into your centrally located hotel, and get a full briefing on the rest of your trip before saying goodbye to your guide.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Light picnic lunch under the shadow of Brandberg mountain)

    Included Activities

  4. Day 4

    Walvis Bay Cruise

You'll be collected at a set time for a cruise on Walvis Bay lagoon, a 40 km drive south along the dramatic coast. This Ramsar-designated wetland is home to Cape Fur seals, great white pelicans, and three dolphin species including bottlenose and dusky. Weather permitting you might spot humpback whales, southern right whales, sunfish, leatherback turtles, African penguins, and both greater and lesser flamingos. You'll visit the Pelican Point lighthouse built in 1932, and if conditions allow, take a short sail on the Atlantic. Near the end of your excursion, you'll have light lunch with local fish and Walvis Bay oysters, sparkling wine, and Namibian beer. You return to Swakopmund in the afternoon with free time for optional activities, and dinner is on your own.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Light lunch typically including local fish and Walvis Bay oysters, accompanied by sparkling wine and Namibian beer)

  5. Day 5

    Sandwich Harbour Excursion

You'll be collected for an excursion to Sandwich Harbour, one of Namibia's more adventurous outings. Travel south along the coast beyond Walvis Bay into the desert where access gets challenging but spectacular. You'll navigate through the Kuiseb River Delta, high dunes, and along the beach before driving 8 km on a narrow strip between towering dunes and the Atlantic (timing matters because high tide closes this route). Sandwich Harbour was once a hub for whaling and fishing but is now pristine and beautiful with a silted-up lagoon and good walking areas along the shore. On the return journey, you'll experience roller coasting as you drive over some of Namibia's highest dunes. Dinner is on your own account.

    Meals
Breakfast, Snack (Snacks only as provided on the Sandwich Harbour excursion)

    Included Activities

    • Journey through dunes to Sandwich Harbour
    • Visit to Sandwich Harbour lagoon
    • Walk along Sandwich Harbour shore

    Kuiseb River Delta
  6. Day 6

    Swakopmund to Windhoek

Your last morning gives you a few hours to walk around Swakopmund's small town centre before collection at 13:00. If you want to do something active, optional activities include scenic flights over shipwrecks and desert, bicycle tours, living desert excursions with specialist guides, quad biking, skydiving, or sandboarding. At 13:00 you'll be picked up for the drive back to Windhoek, which takes no longer than five hours. You'll be dropped off at your accommodation anywhere within Windhoek city limits.

Clarification on item 2.No music played entire trip, driver was in separate cabin so did not hear most requests. No music requested by passengers was played however, driver and cook played their own music and spoke in native language to each other loudly in front cabin which I found rather rude. There were 5 passengers most of who would have preferred to listen to music. [Chameleon Safaris Namibia replied: Please kindly be advised that on the pre-departure information provided for, it is stated that we will not play music during the safari as it is difficult to select/choose a genre that can accommodate everyone in a vehicle.]
